San Francisco Seals and Marin FC Adult Team Announce the Marin FC Seals AffiliateMarch 7, 2006
The San Francisco Seals and the Marin FC adult soccer team announced today an affiliate program. The Marin team will be known as the Marin FC Seals and wear the official Seals logo on their jerseys, and will work together with the San Francisco Seals to further the game of soccer in the Bay Area. In 2006, the Marin FC Seals will field teams in the Marin Soccer League and the Marin Coed League.
The Marin Soccer League offers the highest level of men’s amateur competition in the Marin County. The league boasts former professional players, collegiate players, and even former national team players. The league plays at McGinnis Park in San Rafael on Saturdays beginning in April and running through September.
“We are excited about the opportunities this affiliation will give our team and our club” said Tony Nogueras, Director of Adult Teams for the Marin FC. “The return of the Seals to San Francisco and the Bay Area just as the San Jose Earthquakes leave will help give soccer fans in the area an opportunity to keep seeing and supporting a high level of soccer.”
The affiliate program offers the adult players at Marin FC and their club, an opportunity to tryout for the San Francisco Seals along with scouting and talent referrals between the teams. The two teams will hold scrimmage and exhibition games, work together to host and promote soccer games through a Seals Futbolito tournament this Summer in Marin, fundraisers for the Marin FC youth teams, offer opportunities for Marin youth players to participate in the SF Seals Super Y teams in all age groups, and have the Marin adult team coaching staff as guest coaches for the San Francisco Seals for select events.
“The San Francisco Seals are committed to the communities in our territory granted to us by the United Soccer League (USL) which incorporates San Mateo, San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties” noted Tom Simpson, the Seals General Manager and Head Coach. “This is the first example of how we are working to establish relationships and promote soccer in the Bay Area. Marin FC is well known for running an excellent program, and we are very pleased to be working with them as an affiliate.”
