Seals Suffer Tough Loss 0-2

May 29, 2006
The Seals suffered a tough loss at home in their opening game at USF's Negoesco Stadium,  0-2.

Just nine minutes into the game a foul was called.  It appeared there was some confusion on the field as to who got the call - the Seals or Seahorses.  That was decided very quickly as the Seahorses took the free kick as Tobias Weins put a perfect through ball to Josh Hanson who split the defense for a one-on-one against the goalie and he knocked it into the top of the net.

For a while neither team seemed to own the game as both teams at time pressured the other, and looked good.  At others, they both seemed to struggle.  Thirty five minites in another foul was called just outside the box.  The shot was on target, but goal keeper Geremy Uhl made the stop, but could not hold on to the ball.  A charging Weins gave all players in the crowd a lesson in why you should follow the shot, as he beat his defender and Uhl to the ball and finished it for the second goal.

The half ended with the Seahorses having 8 shots requiring two saves by Uhl, and the Seals having 5 goes at goal without requiring Seahorses keeper Eric Reed to make a save.

The second have saw a Seals team looking determined to turn the game around.  They had been in this position in Fresno, and pulled that one out 3-2.  Seven shots in the second half were not enough, though two were on goal, the Seahorses keeper did a great job, and several misses were just wide.

The Seals remain tied in first place with the Seahorses, but are behind on goal differential.

The Seals next play the Fresno Fuego at home (USF) next Saturday at 2:00pm.
