Seals and Storm Battle to Heated Draw in Season Finale

July 22, 2006
In the midst of a heat wave, which had game-time temperatures hovering around 90 degrees, the San Francisco Seals and the Los Angeles Storm battled to a 2-2 draw in the season finale for both sides.

Whether it was a result of the scorching heat or each team's desire to close the season on a positive note, the game featured a number of heated exchanges.  The Seals found themselves trailing early on and went into the half down 1-0.  While both teams retreated to the shade provided by the trees lining Negoesco Stadium, a number of young Seals fans, some accompanied by their parents, ran around out on the pitch and had a great time kicking the ball about; seemingly oblivious to the scorching weather.

In spite of the heat, the action in the second half was fast and furious.  The Seals pulled level on a Rawlie Masaniai header, only to have the Storm take the lead back with a header of their own off of a corner kick.  But this determined pod of Seals, which only suited up two substitutes for the match, fought back and equalized once again via the foot of Sam Krow-Lucal.  With the clock ticking down on their respective seasons, each team pressed hard for the goal which would send them into the offseason on a winning note.  However, a couple of great defensive plays on each end in the waning moments kept the score 2-2 at the final whistle.

While the Seals midfield had the better of play much of the afternoon, the quickness and creativity of the Storm wingers exposed gaps in the Seals defense time and time again.  All in all, it was a very entertaining match and a just result as both teams fought hard in search of a season ending victory.  The Seals fans showed their appreciation for their side's efforts with a standing ovation following the completion of the match.

The Seals finished the season with a 7-5-4 record.  The Seals would like to thank all the fans who came out and supported the return of one of the Bay Area's most storied soccer franchises this season.
