In order to officiate for the 2024 season - you must fullfill the following requirements: 

  1. Achieve a passing grade on the NFHS test.
  2. Obtain the 2024+ uniform 
  3. Pay yearly dues to the association.
  4. Provide availability to Section xi (accept assignments when they become available)
  5. Attend a yearly RULES INTERPRETATION Meeting..

If any of the 5 requirements are not met - your 2024 schedule will be pulled. The anticipated start date to the season shall be 9/2/2024


Lightning policy:

    -WE ADHERE & FOLLOW THE LIGHTNING POLICY WRITTEN INTO OUR CONTRACT....NOT THE POLICY CURRENTLY POSTED ON THE SECTION WEBSITE: 

Here is the current policy as written into our contract:

        -If lightning is seen 15 or fewer minutes prior to the contest then that contest shall not be played that day

         -If lightning is seen during play then the officials shall cease play for that day 


Interpretation Meeting :

*****In addition to obtaining a sucessfull test (passing Grade), Every official must attend a YEARLY interpretation meeting in order to be eligible to officiate********   

If you attend an alternate meeting you must sign in with their secretary so you receive credit for attending.

    -Alternate meetings are as follows:

                -Suffolk Boys   Aug 19, 7:00PM at Brookhaven Town Hall.

                -Nassau Boys: Aug 21 7:30PM at Merrick Golf Club

                -Nassau Girls: Aug 26 7:30PM at Island Trees HS

                -Suffolk Coaches Association:  TBD

 Officials,

 

The state test is now open please use the link above to log in and take the test. Part 1 will be open to Aug 8th but you will not work games unless you complete this requirement. The rulebooks will be given out June 17th at our meeting @ Brookhaven Town Hall 7pm so you can wait till then to take the test as an option.

NOTE: The rule books were not available for the 6/17 meeting. The Rule Books were available for pickup at East Islip HS on 6/30. After 6/30 - please contact Anthony Desimone directly.

Also our mandatory pre-season rules interpretation meeting will be Aug 26th 7pm @ Brookhaven Town Hall. The Suffolk Boy's is having their meeting Aug19th at the same time and same place. The rules meeting and completion of a passing score of 85 is required to work games for Girls Soccer. After completion of your score you need to take a picture of your score with your name and email to me @ referee1966@gmail.com. Thank you for your cooperation and I will see everyone on the 17th.

Online availability for Fall sports is now open on the Section XI website. 

Please submit your availability by May 31st.  Any changes after that date you can simply make on the calendar portion.  

Soccer schedules for varsity and JV are available on the Section XI website. 

When completing your availability, take into account that starting times may vary early in the season before school starts, weekends and on holidays such as Labor Day and Columbus Day. 

Please adjust your availability on those dates since there may be earlier starting times. 

Teams begin practicing on August 26th and can scrimmage or play games after six practices.

 A common error when completing online availability is failing to click the submit button after filling out each category.  This does not apply to the calendar.


The next meeting will be held June 17 @ 7 PM Brookhaven town hall.

We will be transitioning to a new uniform for the upcoming season. The reason behind this decision is because the old grid is no longer being produced. This is mandatory for everyone. It will be the NCAA shirt. This is the same shirt as the suffolk boys association. The shirt comes in yellow, orange, and purple- long sleeve and short sleeve. Everyone is required to purchase the yellow shirt and shorts. One pair of socks will be paid for by the association. All varsity officials are required to have yellow and orange as well as the shorts. Socks will now be solid black with no white stripes. The purple shirt is completely optional. 

 

Our supplier, Great Call Athletics, a long island company run by a fellow official is giving an excellent discount for making a bulk order. Along with the discounted prices, you will not need to pay sales tax or shipping. Shirts will cost $28.00 for short sleeves and $30.00 for long sleeves. Shorts are $30.00 and socks will cost $6.00. The shirts normally sell for $44.99 plus tax and shipping. 

 

Attached is an order form . Jim Kay our VP has volunteered to coordinate the changeover to the new uniforms. Please fill out the form and send it back with a check and mail it to Jim prior to April 15th. Any questions you may email me. Thanks for everyone's cooperation .

 

2nd Notice: Please address the uniform order before the deadline . This is mandatory for the fall season if you are planning on working games. We are no longer using the grid shirt, shorts with white stripes, and socks with 3 stripes. When ordering the set it is the jersey, shorts, and one pair of socks that will be paid for by the association. Please follow the email below based on the requirement for the level that you work. Your order form will be confirmation that you have met the requirement. Anyone who officiates college soccer this is the uniform but you are more than welcome to take advantage of this offer. If you sent in an order for just a jersey please submit an order for the shorts as well. If you have submitted your order please disregard this email and thank you. However if you are yet to address this please take care of this in the next few weeks. This was long overdue that we all wear the same uniforms. A lot of you work baseball, softball, and basketball which requires everyone to dress the same and this will also pertain to soccer as well. The boy's association has the same requirement so if you work for both associations you will all match. If you work any Nassau County games they are using a different college jersey. The discontinuation of the grid jersey has caused all associations to come up with a solution. Thank you in advance for taking care of the uniform issue.

Procedures for officials to follow if experiencing issues during an athletic contest.

Please see "GAMEDAY PROCEDURES" for “officials check list” for officials to follow should they experience issues with spectators during an athletic contest. This procedure shall assist officials as to what to do and who to contact should they have issues.

Officials -Please print, read, understand and follow this procedure regardless of level so everyone is on the same page. This procedure will be reviewed and finalized with all SXI ADs at the 9/7/2023 meeting. In this way, school personnel as well as all officials will be on the same page and know what to do when issues arise. Officials shall not let these situations go unreported.


All Goals SHALL be secured and anchored

Ref: NFHS Rule 1 - "The field of play" 

Under Section 4 - "GOALS AND NETS"

....If portable goals are used, the goals shall be adequately anchored, secured or counterweighted to the ground

Upon first entering the field - you and your partner shall inspect both goals for conformity.

RULING: The game will not start until the goals are properly secured.

As always - please review the NFHS rule book periodically.

 


Yellow and Red card reporting

Please use the new online reporting module for all yellow and red cards issued.

Please specify according to NFHS rule book Rule 12 - Section 8 (MISCONDUCT) 

PAGE 58 - 59 of the 2022-2023 rule book.

This information will be forwarded to Joe Vas and Anthony Desimone.

 Report all red cards to Section XI via their misconduct form.

 

 


Pre-game conference procedure

At least 5 min before the start of each and every contest - coaches and captains shall meet with the officials to perform a "pregame conference" [IAW NFHS Rule 5 Section 2 (PREGAME RESPOSIBILITIES)]

The pregame conference shall consist of the following: 

A. Inspect balls to be used (IAW NFHS Rule 2 - The ball). See Section 1 - "Supply" and Section 2 - - "Specifications".

B. ONE OFFICIAL SHALL READ THE SPORTSMANSHIP CARD IN ITS ENTIRETY. A copy of this card is listed on this website. Please print and bring with you. 

C. Conduct a Coin Toss. The visiting team captain shall indicate heads or tails while the coin is in the air. 

D. Affirm that both teams are properly equipped (verbal YES is required from both coaches). Any questions re: legality of players equipment shall be addressed at this time.

A more detailed explanation is listed in your NFHS rule book under RULE 5 (officials). Section 2 describes "pregame responsibilities" in detail.
