FSU takes the Series from Division Rival Gators

Number 1 FSU traveled down to Gainesville to take on the 9th ranked Florida Gators. The series started off on a rainy note causing for the 9 inning game to be played on Saturday and both 7 inning games to be played on the Sunday. Danny German started game 1 for the Noles. He went 6 innings and tallied 4 strikeouts while giving up 4 hits, 2 walks, and 2 runs. Unfortunately the Noles bats were utterly silenced by UF's starting pitcher who threw a complete game shutout while only giving up 3 hits. The Noles suffered their first loss of the season by a score of 3-0. The Sunday games were a completely different story. Austin Schultz started the game strong through the first three innings and then suffered from an inconsistant strike zone which led to 7 free passes on the day for him. The Noles were down 7-0 going into the top of the 5th and the bats came alive. The Noles rallied for 7 runs highlighted by 2 RBI singles from both Matt Zanis and Brett Gilman. The Noles pitching continued to falter but the offense was there to pick them up every time. Down by 2 in the top of the 7th FSU rallied yet again. Tim Becker started the inning with a single, Junior Delgado came to the plate from the bunch and came up with a clutch single to put runners on 1st and second with no outs. A past ball occurs and pinch runner, Joey Daidone, managed to take not only 3rd base but home as well! Alain Aguiar then tied the game up with a clutch RBI single to tie the game up. Alain Aguiar then took the mound for the first time of the year and pitched both the 7th and 8th inning while only giving up 1 run and 1 hit in the outing. The top of the 8th was more of the same as the Noles put 3 more across capped by a Jason Wilpon 2 RBI double to score the brothers Gilman. The Noles took the game in thrilling fashion, 13-11. With momentum firmly on the side of Florida State the Noles entered the rubber game of the series. Ryan Kammerdener took the mound and pitched well through 4 but the wheels began to come off as the long ball began to hurt him. He gave up 4 dingers and 7 ER with 5 Ks to cap the worst outing of his club career. But despite this, the Noles never trailed in this game. All but one starter had an RBI in this game as the Noles had 5 runs by the 5th and then continued the onslaught. The Noles plated 8 runs in the 6th which was highlighted by RBI hits from Sean McClaskie, Austin Schultz, and Jason Wilpon (4 RBIs this inning). Jason Wilpon then led the charge for a 7 run 7th inning with a grandslam. Wilpon's stats for the rubber game of this series are out of this world.... he went 5-5 with a grandslam, 2 doubles, 2 singles, 1 walk, 3 runs scored, and 10 RBIs. The final score of the final game was 20-7 which earned the Noles a series victory against their biggest rivals and propelled them to a 14-1 record on the yearWilpon carried the Noles offense through the last two games with clutch hits and a total of 13 RBIs over those two games (3 doubles and 5 runs as well).
