What is the SJMSBL?

South Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League (SJMSBL)

The South Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League (SJMSBL) is a premier adult baseball league. Teams are located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. In 2022 we had 74 Spring/Summer Season Teams, 14 Midweek Teams & and 40 Fall Teams. The SJMSBL uses wood bats. Age Divisions for the Spring/Summer Season include 21+ (18+ can play but Not coach) /35+/45+& 55+. The Midweek Division in 2022 was SEMI-PRO & The AMERICAN,  The fall season had (2) 21+ divisions, a 35/45+ Division & a 45/52 Division. The South Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League (SJMSBL) is affiliated with the national Men's Senior Baseball League (MSBL) and Men's Adult Baseball League (MABL).

The SJMSBL typically gets 120 -140 Baseball Teams a year.

 

Our Spring/Summer & MidweekManagers Dictate the play

In February (for Spring Season),  Managers from each Division come together and decide (its a one-hour meeting);

  1. How many games in the Regular Season (Season usually starts 1st Sunday in April. Excluding Easter Sunday)
  2. Playoff Format (Playoffs need to end before Labor Day)
  3. Discuss any rule changes
  4. All-Star game location and preferred date
  5. Waiver considerations are voted on by the managers 
  6. Potential SJMSBL tournaments

At the end of April or the beginning of May, our Midweek Managers meet to decide

The Fall League regular season Begins the Sunday after Labor Day and is played till the last Sunday in October. SEMI-FINAL Playoffs are the 1st Sunday in November. The Championship Game is on the 2nd Sunday in November.

There are usually 2 doubleheaders scheduled around the Eagles schedule.

 

How much does it cost?

Average (Spring/Summer Season) player costs are approximately $250 per player (includes League player registration and team-related expenses for umpires, fields, etc.). Managers determine the exact cost. Uniforms fees are not included and are determined by individual teams.

 

Average (Midweek Season) player costs are approximately $250 - 300 per player  Managers determine the exact cost. Uniforms fees are not included and are determined by individual teams

 

Average (Fall  Season) player costs are approximately $200 - 250 per player. Managers determine the exact cost. Uniforms fees are not included and are determined by individual teams

 

Please Note SJMSBL players are eligible for Regional & National MSBL tournaments

Regional Tournament Team costs range from $600 -750 per Team

 

National Tournaments such as; The Florida Fall Classic, Phoenix World Series & Las Vegas tournaments Average $300 to 400per player. This cost does not include travel expenses, lodging, car rental, food, and entertainment.

 

What about the games?

The SJMSBL plays a wood bat schedule. 21+/35+/45+/55+ (Spring/Summer) teams generally play a Sunday morning (9 am) schedule. The regular season runs from April through July playoffs are completed before Labor Day. Usually, No games are scheduled on major holiday weekends like the Fourth of July. We are considering scheduling games on Memorial Day Sunday. In addition, South Jersey MSBL registered players in our Sunday leagues are also eligible to play in our Midweek League (starts in early summer, May-August), as well as our Fall League (Starts 1st Sunday after Labor Day through October. Playoffs 1st two Sundays in November).

 

How many games?

Most SJMSBL Spring teams play 15-24 regular-season games ( a mix of single (9) inning games + (7) inning doubleheaders), Managers vote on the length of the season (SJMSBL dictates that Playoffs need to be completed before Labor day.) Playoffs are sometimes played on Saturdays & Sundays, Managers vote on the Playoff format/schedule. Most age divisions play doubleheaders (2/7inning Games), How many is determined by the Managers. The league also sponsors regular All-Star Games played at Frawley Stadium. The SJMSBL teams and players also compete in MSBL Regional and National Tournaments.

The Midweek League usually has a regular season of 14 -16 Games (all 7 Innings)

The Fall regular season is usually 10 Games. 

 

What kind of Baseballs do you use?

Wilson 1010 HS    HS=High Seams

 

Does the League provide Liability insurance to secure a field?

YES

 

Who Coordinates umpires?

 The SJMSBL does.

 

Who pays for umpires?

There are 2 umpires for each game. Before the game, each team pays for one umpire

 

Who secures your HOME Baseball Field?

The Manager secures and pays for their own Home Field

 

Where are games played?

The league will use a variety of township, high school, college, and professional fields throughout South Jersey, PA & Delaware. Team Managers are responsible for paying for and securing the home field.

 

The SJMSBL provides Liability Insurance. To receive Liability Insurance Managers need to:

* email eecnph@comcast.net   Who Needs to be insured & address. FYI: Name of field is not who needs to be insured. Usually, the Board of Education ensures School Fields. Usually, Townships insure Recreational Fields. 

 

How do teams get players?

Our teams recruit players in a variety of ways, including ads in local newspapers, the South Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League (SJMSBL) website, and word of mouth. The SJMSBL also shares Free Agents with teams in need.

 

What is the level of competition?

The league has many former high school and college players as well as a few former professional players. Various age divisions have different levels of competition so that any player can find an appropriate place to play – ranging from semi-pro to recreational.
