JESSE ALES' MEMORIAL SOFTBALL CHAMPIONS 1998-2023

played in the championship of ales tournament. lost 12-4 to the 6 time defending champions. thank you guys. it was great. have a new young team. did better than I thought we would for first year together and hopefully many more.

        The Jesse Ales Memorial Softball tournament brought together 13 men’s softball teams, both local and out-of-        county squads, for two days of hard fought games at Whitman and Pavioni fields in Fort Bragg.

        The tournament came down to two close games between the Tri-County Bandits and All Coast All Most. All Coast  came into the championship round undefeated. Tri-County, with a single loss, forced a second title match by winning 12-8. All Coast then took the championship with a an 18-1 victory.

        Players winning all-tournament honors were: Curtis Van Horn of Barnett Logging, Jason McCoard of Big River Rock, Tim Gitchel of Dick’s Place, Todd Norwood of Racks and Tracks, Derek Hawk & Jason Sanders of Ales Transporting, John O’Donnell and Dano (Daniel Alvarez) of DBO, Michael James and Pat Bauer of the Tri County Bandits, and Westy Guill and Steven Young of All Coast All Most. The tournament’s Most Valuable Player was Wes Taylor of All Coast All Most.

The Tri-County team has won this tourney 9 out of the 18 years it has been held.

Congratulations to Manager Nick Moore and All Coast softball team for getting 1st place in the 2014 MCRPD Jesse Ales Memorial Softball Tournament! All Coast did not lose one game all weekend going 5-0 on their way to becoming the 2014 Champions.

Sunday, Aug. 25, was a long day for the Tri-County Bandits, first place team in the
2013 Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District Jesse Ales Memorial Men's Softball Tournament.
After winning both their games on Saturday, Aug. 24, they played the Clover-Stornetta Milkmen Sunday, Aug. 25, at 8:30 a.m. on Whitman Field.Three three-run homers by All-Tournament player Tim Gitchell of the Milkmen gave Clover-Stornetta a 23-19 win over the Bandits. The Bandits fought their way through the losers' bracket with games that started at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., with very little time between games, finally defeating Ales Transporting at about 6:30 p.m. on Pavioni Field to claim the winner's trophy.In second place was Ales Transporting and third place went to the Clover-Stornetta Milkmen.

In addition to Gitchell, members of the All-Tournament team were Tommy Evon, Casey Prine, Diego Aristizabal, Cody Smith, Matt DeVito, Ben Kester, Brandon McGregor, Jason Sanders, Adam Bruch, Joe Lanze, Jacob Sanchez, JR and RC. The tournament's most valuable player was Casey Ales who batted 19x27, for a batting average of over 700. Thank you to Michelle Gordon who did an excellent job in her first year as tournament director.

The Tri County Bandits became four time defending champions at the 12th Annual Jesse Ales Memorial Tournament held saturday, Aug.15 and Sunday,Aug.16.

The Jesse Ales 11th Annual Men's Softball Tournament was held last weekend by the Mendocino Coast Recreation and park District.
The Tournament, named after a local man who Died too young, brings teams from all over Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma and Humboldt counties.This two day double-elimination tournament started Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and finished with the final Championship game starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Local teams included Round Table, Young Guns, Rockstop, Kemgas, Phillbrick Logging, and B&C/Ales and out of town teams were Westec, Outlaws, The Locker Room, Fleet Pride, Top Contenders and The Tri County Bandits.Saturdays games were elimination play, with six of the 12 teams going on to the following day.

Sundays games at 9 a.m. saw Round Table beat Fleet Pride and Kemgas beat Westec.Round Table then defeated Kemgas and B&C/Ales lost to Tri County. In the third place game B&C/Ales defeated Round Table 16-3,giving Round Table the third place trophy and leaving B&C/Ales to face Tri County Bandits again for the Championship.

The game was played at 1:30 p.m. with B&C/Ales winning 9-6 but because it was Tri County's first loss, they had to play a secomd Championship.The final game started at 3 p.m. and resulted in Tri County Bandits defeating B&C/Ales 13-10 to take the Championship for the third year in a row.

All Tourney awards were given to Kyle Arnold and Donnie Tupper of Kemgas, both batting .625 and Russel(.650) and Dee (.727) Latner of Round Table.For B&C/Ales all tourneys were Jason Hawk, with a ave of .553, Donnie Madrigal with a .600 ave and Kevin Brown with a .607.

The all tourneys for Tri County Bandits were Jesse Bussard with a .571 ave, Brandon Davis with a .600 and Jason Fayter with a .636.The tournament MVP was a player who batted an amazing .800 ave and also happens to be the son of the man the tournament is named after; Jesse's son Casey Ales..

The tournament was played in fort Bragg August 19 and 20. there were 12 teams competing for the ales championship. 7 Local teams and 5 out of town teams.

It was a rematch from the 2005 ales tournament for the championship. Jackson Hewitt won in 2005 and gave the Bandits their only two losses.

It was almost de ja vou all over again. Jackson Hewitt beat the bandits 13-12 in there 2nd game on Saturday to send the Bandits to the losers bracket. As was the case in 2005, same score. Then the Bandits won 3 games in a row to make it back to the championship. Having to beat Jackson Hewitt twice to win the tournament, the first game was close with the Bandits winning 8-6 to force the second championship game.

The Bandits were not going to be denied this time. Winning with a score of 17-2. MVP for the Bandits was Damian Bird (Ukiah) all Tourney was Jason Fayter (Cloverdale)and Brandon Davis (Lake County) .

A little fog over the weekend didn't dampen the energy of the 10 teams that showed up to play in the eighth annual Jesse Ales Memorial Mens' Softball Tournament.

Patton Field at Fort Bragg High School and Pavioni Field at Dana Gray Elementary hosted two days of spirited play in the double elimination tournament. The men were separated from the boys on Saturday with several of the games finishing early due to the 10 run rule. Only the best went on to play on Sunday.

Fans and families crowded the fences and baselines to get a view of the action. It was a real hometown family day.

It all came down to the Tri-County team and the Skyline Tree Service team. Tri-County is an unsponsored team made up of local players and players from inland as far as Lake County. The team has been to the Ales tournament every year since its inception, taking three first places and three second places. This year they can notch another second place on their record.

The Skyline Tree Service team is sponsored by a company from Redding but is made up mostly of local guys.

Tri-County had lost to Skyline earlier in the day, 11-10, but made their way back into the championship bracket by winning their next two games, beating Anderson Law, from Lake County, in the second game.

Skyline dominated the field from the outset, quickly gaining a five-point lead. It looked like there might be a third playoff game though when the Tri-County team came back by the fifth inning, closing the score to one, 5-4.

With a lot of cheering and jeering from the sidelines, the Skyline players renewed their commitment, holding off Tri-County in the seventh to bring the first place trophy home. Besides a great looking trophy the winners also received t-shirts provided by the tournament organizer, the Mendocino Coast Park and Recreation District.

The FBHS wrestlers kept everyone fed at the snack shack, serving up hamburgers, hotdogs and brauts.

Cindi Whitlock, who has been helping organize the tournament for several years said, "This year the tournament went extremely smooth with very few hitches. All the players and teams were there to play ball and have a good time."
