Some info on our Fall practices:

• When: Tuesdays @ 8:15-10:00 p.m. and Thursdays @ 6:45-8:15 p.m. (First one will be August 30 @ 8:15)

• Where: Southwest Rec Softball Complex (The all grass field. Direction can be found here: http://recsports.ufl.edu/locations/fields/swrc-softball-complex)

• Who: Anyone of all talents is encouraged to come out and get some work in. Also, feel free to invite any friends you might've played baseball with as well. It's pretty low key in the Fall. Lots of grounders/getting arms back up to speed/light swinging. 

• What to wear/bring: Shorts are fine. No need for baseball pants. Wear a baseball hat and turfs or running shoes. Make sure you bring your equipment (glove, batting gloves, etc.).

There's no way around it. Our season's over. 

On a weekend that featured anemometer-breaking, hurricane-like winds in Cocoa, we dropped the first two games to UCF 3-2 and 1-0 on April 16 before closing the season on a 5-2 win, finishing 16-5 on the year.

While it was cut short, we still accomplished a lot in yet another progressive year. Here are a couple moments that stood out:

1. When Zack 'Big Daddy Z' Zaversnik hit two three-run dingers against FIU on Feb. 14...IN THE SAME INNING. Oh, and then when he did it AGAIN in a 19-2 win over Colorado State on March 13. Oops. Why did anyone ever pitch to him? More importantly, why hasn't EvoShield called to sponsor him yet?

2. When we handed Florida State it's lone loss of the regular season with a 3-0 triumph on March 19. FSU hitters are still having nightmares about Sam Bergida's infamous and somehow unhittable cutter. Bergida worked quick and clean like baby wipes, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 and allowing just three hits. Three words: The Real Deal.

3. When, after having trouble sleeping for two weeks straight, Corey Graf finally hit his first home run of the season against Miami on April 2. Sure, it may have been an inside-the-parker, but we still accepted it with open arms. Plus he went ahead and redeemed himself with a walk-off blast against Georgia a week later. Thank you, Eighth Street. 

4. When we hit 18 homers on the season — the most we've hit since 2008 and the most in the South Atlantic Conference...by far. From Andrew Murphy's mammoth bat flip that cleared a nearby forest to Steve Capsanes' Kirk Gibson-like crawl around the base paths in the same game against the 'Noles, each one was memorable in its own way. 

5. When Mike Mancini threw a no-no in his final game. El Presidente's pitches (note the patented tumbling eephus) were so nasty that even he could barely control them, as he walked four and lasted four innings. Despite this, his efforts helped earn a win in our final game and he came off to a standing ovation in the Cocoa Expo Sports Center. 

6. And finally...SHNAW!

The Gators traveled to Plant City last weekend to take on three top-20 ball clubs.  After taking down Colorado State, Iowa, and Ohio State, the team boasts a 9-0 record.

Despite a slow start in Game 1 against the Rams, the bats came alive as the offense plated 19 runs in the span of two innings. The charge was led by senior Zack Zaversnik as he belted a grand slam in the monstrous fifth inning. Four RBIs were not enough for the senior as he knocked another one into orbit just minutes later. He did it again. On the bump, senior Sam Bergida and freshman Tyler Russo combined to throw 6 innings, allowing only 2 runs on 6 hits.

The offense continued to produce runs in Game 2 against the Hawkeyes after a grand slam in the top of the first off the bat of senior first baseman, Patrick Pinak. When asked about the opposite field shot, Pinak commented, "Big Z has great power, but anyone can hit long balls to the pull-side. It takes man strength to go deep to the opposite field."

Pitchers Tyler Wills and Ben Wright held off a late charge by the Hawkeyes to close the game by the score of 10-8.

Patrick Pinak took the bump in Game 3 against Ohio State. In a fast paced game, Pinak worked efficiently, shutting down the Buckeyes for six innings, retiring 15 batters straight after the first. The Gators offense managed to plate 3 runs, leading to a 3-2 victory.

Riding the momentum of the Plant City victories, the Gators will take on the other school from Florida this weekend for a conference matchup. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. Saturday at Gainesville High School. The series will wrap up Sunday at Oak Hall School.

The Florida Gator baseball club is headed back to the NCBA World Series at the University of Tampa for the second time in two years!  

Like the 2013 team, the 2014 season came down to a must win regular season game, this time against FSU, and the Gators eventually secured a comeback victory that guaranteed them second place in the South Atlantic - South division.  This put up the Gators to an at-large vote against the other second place finishers in the South Atlantic conference, Coastal Carolina and Georgia Tech.  The Gators were voted in by the NCBA, and as the at-large bid, entered the regional tournament as the 4th seed of four teams, behind UCF, Alabama, and Clemson.

The Gators swept through the regional tournament convincingly, knocking off Alabama 12-1 in seven innings, then avenging a regular season series loss to UCF by beating them 9-4 in the semifinals, and 17-7 in eight innings in the championship game.  The Gators offensive explosion was led by Christian Pierce and Corey Graf, who combined to go 17 for 22 with 4 doubles, a triple, 7 RBIs, 12 runs, 4 walks, and 3 stolen bases!

By winning the regional tournament, the Gators have advanced to the NCBA World Series as the 3rd seed of 8 teams, and are set to begin play at 11 am on Friday, May 23rd against California, Berkely.  The rest of the teams and bracket can be seen below.  Go Gators!

With the majority of the season behind us, the UF club baseball team is in a good position in the South Atlantic South division, and controls their own destiny.

The Gators currently sit at 15-4, and 11-3 in their division, good for second place among seven teams.  To get to their record, the Gators took 2 of 3 from FIU, Miami, and FIT, and swept FGCU.  While down at the NCBA spring training in Tampa, the Gators dropped their first game to Wisconsin 1-0, but bounced back to beat Iowa 12-4, and then beat UMass 5-4 despite entering the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-4.  Finally, this past weekend, the first game against the first place Seminoles was rained out.  The following day, the Gators swept a doubleheader against the Seminoles, winning 5-4 in extras in the first game, despite entering the bottom of the seventh down 2-4, and then pouring it on the second game, winning 14-6.  

The Gators play the, now first place, UCF Knights on April 10th and 11th in Orlando, and will have the third game against FSU rescheduled sometime after that.  These games will decide the Gators postseason fate.

With the 2014 season opener at FIU (February 8th) rapidly approaching, the Florida Gator baseball club is gearing up to begin another run at the NCBA World Series.  Follow along here or at clubbaseball.org for the results and noteworthy news all season long.

Congratulations to the Penn State Nittany Lions for winning the 2013 NCBA World Series, in Tampa, FL!

The Gators came into the World Series seeded 8th out of 8 teams, but shook up the tournament, with a very respectable showing.  After a disappointing first game, losing to the top seeded, and national #1, Texas A&M Aggies in a blowout, 12 to 5, the Gators faced an uphill climb in the tournament.  Facing the 5th seeded Cal Berkeley Golden Bears in an elimination game, the Gators rebounded, winning 5 to 3 in a tight back and fourth game.  Advancing to face the top seeded Aggies again, who just lost to Penn State, the Gators shocked the NCBA, knocking them off 11 to 6, on the backs of a 5 run eigth inning, and a strong pitching performance by Andrew Stricklin.  In the semifinals, the Gators matched up against James Madison University, but couldn't keep rolling, finally being eliminated 6 to 3, to end the Gators season.  James Madison would move on to lose to Penn State 12 to 5 in the championship game.

Moving into the offseason, the Gator club baseball team will begin preparing for next season, and another World Series run.  Practices will begin in the fall semester, and practice times will be posted on this website when weekly practices are scheduled at the beginning of the semester.  Anyone interested in trying out for the team will be encouraged to join.  Any further questions can be directed to team president Alex Kapacinskas, at akapacinskas@ufl.edu.

     2013 South Atlantic Regional Champions

The Gators are headed to Tampa, FL from the 24th to the 30th to particpate in the NCBA World Series, after winning the South Atlantic regional tournament this past weekend!

The Gators lost a heartbreaking tournament opener 1-0 in 10 innings to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.  Andy Jones went all 9 and two thirds innings, letting up only 1 unearned run.  Landing in the loser's bracket and faced with 4 elimination games between them and the championship, the Gators reeled off wins against 10th ranked Clemson 8-2, 6th ranked Georgia 5-1, and 5th ranked UCF 8-3 on the arms of Andrew Stricklin, Sam Bergida, and Andy Jones again, to set up a decisive winner take all championship matchup with the Golden Knights.  Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th, consecutive hits by Lee Kinzel, Grayson Pylant, and Corey Graf tied the game at 3, then after an intentional walk the UCF closer plunked Brandon West to win the game for the Gators, and send them to Tampa in unusual fashion.

The Gators are headed to the playoffs!  The UF club baseball team will square off in a 4 team double elimnation tournament against UCF, Georgia, and Clemson, in Columbus, Georgia.  To get to this point the Gators have a 10-8 overall record, but an 8-4 record in conference, where it really counts.  

Since the last update, the Gators lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes 5-3, and then 11-5, but quickly turned it around by sweeping FIT in the following series.  After taking a short trip to Tampa, the Gators knocked off Drexel to continue the winning streak.  The Gators were then off to Tallahassee to square off against the rival Seminoles.  The Gators lost the first game 2-0, but won the second game of the doubleheader 7-5 in dramatic fashion, scoring 6 runs in the last inning to erase a 5-1 deficit.  The Gators then cruised to a 13-5 victory the following day to take the series.  The Gators wrapped up the regular season at home, against the Miami Hurricanes, once again dropping the first game of the series, this time, 3-1.  But the Gators turned it aroung again, winning the second game 7-0, setting up a dramatic win or go home scenario in the rubber match, which the Gators won 9-3, securing a regional playoff berth for the second straight year.

The Gators will play either Georgia or Clemson in the first game of the double elimination tournament, starting Friday, May 10, in Columbus, Georgia.

The UF Club Baseball site is back!  Better late than never.  This site should be updated after every weekend series, so stay tuned to get updates on the team's season.

After wrapping up their second series of the season, the Gators have a record of 2-4.  The Gators couldn't get the bats going in their opening doubleheader at the University of Georgia, and were shutout in the first game, 5 to 0, and lost 4 to 3 in the second.  After a bit of controversy regarding the availability of a field for UGA, the Bulldogs had to forfeit the third game of the series, technically resulting in the Gators first win. 

This past weekend, the Gators once again dropped 2 of 3 games, in a series against the University of Central Florida.  It was the same story for the Gators during the Saturday doubleheader, with a lack of run support behind quality pitching performances.  The Gators dropped the first game 3 to 1, and the second, 4 to 3.  On Sunday, the Gators finally woke up and delivered just enough runs to edge out a 5 to 4 victory.

The Gators hope to carry some of that offense and momentum to March 10th, when they will play two nine inning games against the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are traveling south for spring break.
