Schedules

Schedules are now posted for both of our 2017 Post 11 teams ... 19u can be found under the '17 Florence Post 11 Senior Division 1 .. 17u can be found under the '17 Florence Post 11 Division 2 section . I'm still looking for an opponent to fill 2 open dates (1 for each team - June 6 (and possibly June 22 or 23) for 19u & June 12 or 13 for 17u ..

Don't have our 17u team scheduled the 1st weekend in June because I felt as though we may need several of these guys to play for our 19u team in Pontotoc that weekend due to a lot of our 19u players being on their graduation trips. Didn't schedule our 17u team any games the end of the 2nd week of June due to most of our players will be playing with their high school teams in the wood bat tournament at Athens or Decatur + the ACT test is scheduled for Saturday the 10th of June

Rosters

Our final rosters don't have to be set until June 25th, so there is always a chance a player may move from the 19u roster down to the 17u roster and vice versa ... There is always a possibility that a player who isn't listed on one of our rosters to start with wants to join one of our teams; such cases are handled on a case-by-case scenario ... The following lists are how we will begin the season:

_______ 19u _______________ 17u _______________________

All Undergraduates - Recruiting Info

All Florence Post 11 Baseball members (Players and Parents):

This is the most important time of the year for all underclassmen (9th graders and up) to be actively following the recruiting guidelines. If you aren't sure what these recruiting guidelines are, please use the following links to help you navigate through the process:

... Samples of Letters to be sent to coaches (what and when)

... Do's and Dont's when Contacting College Coaches

... Checklist of things to do between 9th & 12th grade

If you have any question regarding any information (or lack of information), never hesitate to call me. If I don't know the answer to a question, I will do my best to get the information for you!

Long Toss Program

For all players who are interested in a good long toss program, I highly recommend you watching this video. As most of the players who have played for me know, I've always been a firm advocate of long tossing. The video I've posted here takes the program a step further than any program I've ever been a part of. The 'pull down' (I have renamed it 'Fire Down') phase is something I've never seen associated with in a long toss program.

All players won't be able to start out throwing the lengths as shown in the video. If any local players are interested in participating in a long toss program but you don't have anyone to throw with, contact Lee via email HERE and he will attempt to get you in contact with a throwing partner. If there is enough interest, we'll try to create a regular weekly throwing schedule (centrally located between the participants).

The list above is simply a starting point ... Reminder, our rosters don't have to be set in stone until June 25th, so the right to tinker with any roster is reserved ..

Congratulations to James Hillhouse as he signed with Calhoun Community College this morning!! (Wed, Jan 16th)  James is a fine young man and will be a great asset to the Calhoun program!

I just found out a day or two ago that Logan Thompson had surgery to repair a torn labrum. We want to wish him the best as he undergoes another grueling recovery and rehabilitation program.

Even though he hasn't played with us (much or on a regular basis in the past), his older brother and father devoted a lot of time and effort and have been great supporters of our Florence Post 11 program, congratulations to Glenn Irby on recently signing to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs next year!!

Congratulations to the following Post 11 players who have taken their careers to the next level:

Josh Burchell: Lawson St Community College
Logan Thompson: Calhoun Community College
Houston Looser: University of Alabama-Huntsville

Adam Polk is taking his talents from Snead CC to Jacksonville State University
Jake Ward signed with UNA following his 2 seasons at Shelton St CC

Post 11'ers Collegiate Updates

Congratulations to Trey Mitchell for being named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week. Mitchell collects his second all-time award, blanking OBU in Game One of the three-game series. The senior right-hander tossed a complete-game, eight-inning gem, fanning five Tigers and allowing just two hits and one walk. The performance marked Mitchell’s second straight complete game win to open up the season.

Trey McNutt reported to the Cubs 'big league' camp back on Feb 13th. All indications are he will begin the season at the AA level. The Cubs AA franchise is located in Knoxville (Southern League), which means he should be playing in Huntsville & Birmingham this spring (if he isn't there during the summer, hopefully that means he has already progressed to AAA. For those who don't follow major league prospects, Trey is now listed by most publications as a 'Top 100 Prospect' amongst all minor leaguers. Baseball America has him ranked as the Cubs #2 ranked prospect. If/When he plays in Huntsville, I'm going to try to carry a group over there. Anyone who is interested in going, please let me know.

Congratulations to our Junior Red team for winning their District Tournament ... They advance to Troy University this weekend ... Way to go Guys!!

Congratulations to our Post 11 Red Junior team for winning the 5th Annual Florence Post 11 Junior Classic this weekend. Going into their 3rd game, as well as the final game of the night, Saturday night vs Columbia Post 19, it seems as if most folks were ready to proclaim Columbia the champions. However, a thrilling 10-9 victory by our Red squad spoiled that party. The weekend was capped off last night with a convincing 14-4 win in 6 innings over the group from Central.

The Post 11 Baseball program wants to send out a great big "THANK YOU" to Coach Anderson at Shoals Christian for not only allowing us to use their facility Friday night and Saturday, but for also getting out early Saturday morning (with help from Bryce Bishop) to ensure the field was ready for play. I was informed the field would've been playable at noon had it been needed. Kudos for a job well done guys!

Post 11 Junior Red '09 @ UNA

Congratulations to Trey McNutt .. Trey pitched for the Post 11 Red team last summer .. He was drafted today in the 32nd Round by the Chicago Cubs

Congratulations to Jared Mothershed (Post 11 Alumni) for being selected as a 1st Team All-American Junior College Team .. Outstanding achievement for an extremely hard-working and well deserving young man
Congratulations to our Post 11 Red Junior team for advancing to the Championship Round of the River City Classic this past weekend. We defeated East Limestone 7-4 in the semi-finals before falling to Ardmore 5-1 in the championship game.

2008 Post 11 Red District Tourney article

For anyone who is interested in the story from the Birmingham News of our District Tournament game last season, I just ran across it ... here is the link: http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/121680098323450.xml&coll=2

Well, you would have to pay $2.95 to be able to read that link, so, I'll post it here:

First baseman Evan Mansell felt a need to ''wake up the bats'' prior to the championship game in the American Legion Senior District baseball tournament Saturday.

Before Mansell's Florence Post 11 team faced Bessemer Post 149 in the final at Birmingham-Southern's Striplin Field, Mansell heaved a cluster of bats onto the grass in front of the visitor's dugout.

''It's just something that we do for fun,'' said Florence shortstop C.K. Irby. ''We've got a lot of guys that like to joke around, but when it comes to business time we just focus up and get it done. The humor keeps us going.''

The gesture worked as Florence cruised to an 8-0 victory over Bessemer in the threeteam, double-elimination tournament.

Florence collected nine hits, with Zack Vick and Taylor Pickens leading the way. Each went 2-for-4 and Vick added a stolen base and a run while Pickens had two RBI.

Bessemer starting pitcher Taylor Tressillian ran into trouble in the first inning when he walked the first two batters. Florence scored four runs in the inning including two with two outs - and never looked back.

''That kind of relaxed us out there,'' Florence coach Lee Walker said. ''We knew we had a good pitcher fixing to go to the field and (the four runs) just kind of calmed us.''

Tressillian allowed another run in the third inning, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth before Logan Tischer relieved him in the seventh inning.

The 4-0 lead was more than enough for Florence starter Mark Vanhorn who pitched a shutout on a day when temperatures hovered in the high90s.

Vanhorn located his fastball well most of the day and allowed just six hits.

He struck out five batters and was also the beneficiary of solid defense as Florence did not commit an error.

Mansell, in particular, helped his pitcher's cause in the field. He made several spectacular tags at first after errant throws pulled him off the bag on more than one occasion.

''I just let Bessemer put (the ball) in play,'' Vanhorn said. ''They hit it around a little bit but I had a good defense to make plays.''

Bessemer showed signs of fatigue in the championship after a grueling three-hour game earlier in the day. Bessemer scored 22 runs to eliminate Fairfield, and then had to play Florence half an hour later.

''(The heat) takes a toll on you; it's just tough,'' Bessemer coach Tommy Scott said.

Walker's team could relate to the feeling of exhaustion. Florence played two games the night before that didn't end until just before midnight, and several of the players then made the hour and a half drive back to Florence.

''Bessemer had been out in the heat for three hours this morning and we figured out last night that we were running out of gas toward the end of the night,'' Walker said. ''You play nine-inning games when you're not used to it, especially in the heat, and it will start to catch up with you.''

The next stop for Florence will be the American Legion Senior state tournament in Troy.

Walker said his team is excited about the challenge.

''We're looking to go down there with no pressure on us because we're not going in as the favorite,'' Walker said. ''Other teams are more experienced, but we're going to lace them up, go play, and see what happens.''

2006 - A New Beginning

March 5, 2006 – 01:30 PM
As the title says, 2006 is the year of a new beginning for the Florence Post 11 Blasters baseball program. As the Blasters undergo an extensive rebuilding program, several young men will have the opportunity to step in and claim prominent roles on the premier team in Northwest Alabama.

The Blasters are looking for young men who will devote themselves to the team throughout the season. Playing for the Blasters will provide each team member an opportunity to compete against some of the highest caliber teams from around the southeast.

If you're interested in playing for the Post 11 Blasters and have these ingredients:
1) Team first attitude
2) Understanding that away games are just as important as home games
3) Ability and desire to step up and compete against a very high caliber of competition

then, the Blasters are interested in you. Please click on the "Online Forms" link on the left side of the page, then click on the "2006 Post 11 Tryout Player Info Form" link. Upon completing the form, make sure you hit the "Submit" button.

As the high school season is already well underway, it won't be long
til the playoffs will be upon us and the summer season will be here.
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys (and parents) at your high school games very soon.

Lee
