Coordinators Needed!!

We are currently seeking interest in the coordinators positions for the U11-U18 divisions.

Coordinators for U11, U13, U15 and U18, roles are below:

Coordinators serve House league for each respective division:

• Serve as the liaison between coaches/players/parents and the respective Director and the Board
• Responsible for attracting and finding additional parent volunteers for activities as required
• Responsible for Jersey distribution and collection for Evaluations, House League etc as required
• Assisting with the coordination of any NE hosted tournaments for the respective division
• Assisting the Director/Board with other duties as required to ensure hockey operations for the division run smoothly

Completed volunteer Applications and Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks are required – forms can be found on the NE website

**Potential Extra Programming This Season**

As an association we are looking to gauge interest in extra programing. Programs would run once a week for a block of weeks. Cost would be $20-$25 per hour and would depend on the number of players in each group. Space will be limited. Programing will depend on the amount of interest.

The majority of the items are already available within the store, however there may be additional items added over the next little while. 

Orders that are required for Christmas delivery need to be placed by Oct. 29th, 2023. Anything ordered after this date WILL NOT be delivered for Christmas.

There will be an oppportunity to preview and try on items within the warm room at Jack Byrne, however the date and time is currently being worked out. This will be communicated once confirmed.

“As tryouts are now set to begin, this thread is to provide some information on the All Star and Development team program, particularly for any first year U11 players or anyone else new to the program who may not be aware of what it entails. 

 There are two all star teams (A and B), and two development teams (C and D) in the program.  During the regular season, the all star teams play in the Don Johnson Hockey League (DJHL) against other associations from the Metro St. John’s area.  (Northeast, St. John’s, Goulds, Southern Shore, Mount Pearl, Paradise, and CBS)  They usually play 2 games a week (one home and one away) and have 2 practices per week.  (which may vary depending upon the week, and may often be combined as one longer practice.  Please note there is a season commitment to hours, not a weekly one)  The players on the All Star teams only play on those teams, they do not play in house league.  For more info on the DJHL, please visit https://djhl.ca/index.php

 The development teams do not play in a league format during the regular season, but often play exhibition games and/or tournaments against any other association in the province throughout the season.  There is no set number of games for these teams in the regular season but the players on the development teams also play on house league teams in the Metro Club Hockey League (MCHL), formerly known as the Interlocking House League, which involves one game and one practice per week.  (Again keep in mind this is an average annual commitment so it can change week to week) Games are usually played against the same associations listed above for the DJHL.  For  more info on the MCHL please visit https://mchl.ca

  There are additional fees above and beyond the regular registration and sweat camps to cover tryouts as well as additional fees for the all star program.  This covers the additional costs of ice time, provincial tournament registration, league fees etc.  The exact amount of additional fees will be announced after tryout registration has concluded.  Note also that there is a 75% attendance requirement with obvious exceptions for injury, illness etc.  A player not meeting this requirement, may result in their removal from the respective team.

All four teams (A/B/C/D) are also selected to represent Northeast Minor Hockey in the Provincial Tournaments during Easter week at the end of the season.  They are all graded by Hockey NL based on performance against other associations throughout the season and placed in a tournament (could be anywhere in the province) with teams of similar performance to ensure the best possible competition.  For example, a Northeast B team could play in a Provincial C or D tournament depending on HNL’s grading.  Note that a player registered to play on a team in a provincial tournament, who does not play for reasons other then the obvious injury, illness, etc. will not be eligible to play in tryout for a team to play in provincials the following year.

The tryouts and selections for all 4 teams are done during the same tryout process at the beginning of the season.   Players are ranked and placed on teams based on evaluated performance during tryouts.  If a parent or guardian requests to see the evaluation of their player, the board will endeavor to provide this within 7 days of request after team announcements.  Note that no requests for evaluations will be entertained after 14 days post team announcements.

U 7 and LST Program Information:

If your child is 2019 born please choose U7 as your Hockey Canada Division on the first page of registration and then choose Learn to Skate at the Registration Fee section before you check out.

If your child is 2017-2018 born please choose U7 as your Hockey Canada Division on the first page and then choose the U7 Fee before you check out. If your child needs a few more skates to help their development they can join the Learn to Skate group along with their U7 group until they are comfortable to only join the U7 group.

Call for Coaches and Volunteers

Northeast Minor Hockey Association is currently accepting applications for Coaches and Volunteers for the upcoming 2023-2024 Season.

Applications can be found on our website under forms (Coach Volunteer Application). The following are included within the application

-        Coaches Application

-        Coaches Code of Conduct

-        Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Screening Application Fee Waiver

-        Hockey NL application for membership (one time submission)

Coaches Applications, Code of Conduct and Hockey NL applications are to be submitted via dops.northeast@gmail.com 

Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Screening checks are required by all volunteers and require renewal every 3yrs. These applications are required to be submitted by the volunteer to the RNC, this can be done online @ the RNC website. Due to delays in processing Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Screening checks, it is recommended that the volunteers submit these applications to the RNC as soon as possible. 

NEMHA Registration Issues

We are aware of some issues that have arisen with registration over the past couple of days. We do have a solution for some of the issues and are diligently working on solutions for the others. There is no need to panic, as there is no cap on registration, and everyone will get into their respective programs. We are working to have all issues solved in a timely manner. Please DO NOT contact Hockey NL directly, as we are working closely with them on these issues. Listed below are some of the issues that we are having, along with instructions to solve the issue, if available. Please stay tuned to our website and social media platforms, as we will post information/instructions, as it becomes available.

First time registrants (having never registered a child in minor hockey)

It is mandatory that first time registrants complete the Hockey Canada Respect in Sport course in order to receive Hockey Canada Registry ID. The issue we are having here is, once the course is completed, the child is automatically being added to the Outer Cove Marines Team. This is a glitch in the Hockey Canada registry system, and we are working with Hockey NL to have this resolved. Instructions: If you have already completed this process, we will work with Hockey NL to have your child transferred to NEMHA, then you will be able to complete registration. If you haven’t already completed the Respect in Sport Course, we ask that you hold off until we have advised that the issue has been resolved.

Obtaining a Hockey Registry ID for a second child, new to Minor Hockey.

In order to obtain a Hockey Registry ID for a second child, there are two options; you can complete the Hockey Canada Respect in Sport course again, OR, follow the instructions below, provided by Hockey NL. Instructions from Hockey NL: If a child has not been listed by a parent on the Respect in Sport Parent Program profile, the following steps are required to be followed: - Log back into the Respect in Sport Parent Program (https://hnlparent.respectgroupinc.com/secure/) - Click on PROFILE, located at the top of the screen - Click on CHILD MANAGEMENT, located on the left-hand side of the screen - From this page you list all children you have registered in minor hockey Child Management -Information entered here is very important to ensure you are given proper credit for completing this program. This is achieved by connecting your certification number to your child's hockey profile. -Please enter all your children who currently play hockey. You may return here to add children in the future. -Please ensure the first name, last name and date of birth are entered in the same fashion as they have been provided to the minor hockey association. Enter your child's information, then select “Add This Child”. -Repeat this process until all registered children have been added. Once all registered children have been added, select "No Children to Add".

Registration Errors

We are aware of various error messages that are popping up when trying to register (appears to be with new registrants). These errors may be related to the two issues mentioned above. We are working with Hockey NL to confirm and are hoping to have this sorted quickly.

**Please know that our board and staff are working very hard, together with Hockey NL, to get all registration issues resolved in a timely manner. Please be patient, we will update with more information as soon as possible

Registration is Now Open for the 2023-2024 season

The season Information Guide, as well as the Registration Guide for the 2023-24 season is available on our website via Forms tab. Please read each document thoroughly, as there have been some changes. NEMHA is excited to have partnered with Team Snap as our new registration platform. The attached guide will explain the new registration process. 

Please Note: Eagles who are currently registered to try out for HNL U13AAA Minor, HNL U15AAA Minor, U15AA DJHL or DJHL Female U13AA & U15AA, please DO NOT REGISTER with NEMHA until you are officially released from the tryout.

Important Message – NEMHA Members

This season there have been an increasing number of reports of inappropriate and disrespectful behaviors from players, parents, and coaches.

NEMHA Executive would like to remind its members of the following:

Coaches

• ·         Coach and lead our young players to not only instill hockey skills, but life skills
• ·         Show respect to all players, parents, officials, opposing players, and coaches
• ·         There have been many reports this season of disrespectful behavior from our coaches towards players, parents, teams, opposing teams and officials
• ·         There have been multiple suspensions also from HNL. The best way to earn respect is to show respect

 Parents

• ·         Support your child and their team, but let the coaches do the coaching and the officials do the officiating.
• ·         From the officiating perspective, please realize most of the officials are teenagers and young adults that are learning and developing their skills as officials, they will make mistakes but are doing their best.  
• ·         Please consider how you would feel if it was your child officiating and you heard parents/coaches yelling and screaming at your child.
• ·         You may not always agree with your child's coach, but please show coaches and managers respect. They are volunteers who without their volunteer time our programs and teams would not exist.  
• ·         Emotions during a game can run high. Please respect the players on the other team and the fans of the other team during a game.
• ·         When frustrated, please exercise the 24-hour rule prior to discussing issues/concerns with the coach/team staff and be respectful when doing so.

 Players

• ·         Respect and thank your parents for providing you with their time and support to allow you to play the game you love.
• ·         Respect your coaches, without them, there is simply no team, no game, no tournaments, no banners.
• ·         There have been reports of obvious disrespect from players towards coaches this season, whether it's not showing up to practice, not being prepared for games/practices, verbally disrespecting the Coach's/Team staff.
• ·         Respect your teammates and opponents. Remember you are a team, whether it's the team you wanted to be on, whether you are with your friends or not, you are a team. Teams are only successful and have fun when ALL team members show respect for one another.  
• ·         No matter what the score is in the end, show respect for the efforts your teammates put in, shake your opponents’ hand at the end of all games.

We are observing and have far too many reports this season on the negative and not the positive of sport, please keep this in mind for the rest of our season. We ask everyone to review our Parents/Player Code of Conduct on our website. If these behaviors continue, we will have no choice but to act upon the reports and this could lead to suspension.

We need to DO BETTER!
