Subscribe to our NewsletterOur last game as a team was Sunday 6/19/11...Good luck in the future to all the Rebels
The Rebels played their last game as a team on 6/19/20011 - good luck to all of the players and their parents. We made some great memoties & wonderful lifelong friendships............
The Rebels had a great season - and a great history as a team. They say all good things come to an end.....As you know, we have had 6 very fun soccer seasons. We (the coaches) are very proud of the players. We have seen them mature and improve - and most importantly - have fun. Hopefully the friendships they have made will last a lifetime. Having fun and making friendships are the reasons we have dedicated so much time to the players. Good luck to the Rebels players and their families. We wish you the best of luck in whatever path you take in the future. Here is a brief history of our accompliahments:
- We played for 6 seasons and were very successful while having a lot of fun playing soccer and making friends and memories
- We were Division Champs
- We won the LIJSL Sportsmanship Award
- We finished in the top 3 of our division 3 out of our 6 seasons
- We went from worst to first because the boys believed in themselves and did not quit
- We accomplished all of this without a trainer or practicing since we played for the fun of the game

Game 10: The Rebels end the season on Father's Day
The Ronkonkoma Rebels last game of the season was on Father's day....thank you to those who were able to make the game. We only had 11 players - so we didn't have any subs. Great job by the boys - we are very proud of your efforts.
Game 9: The Rebels Win
Great game by the Ronkonkoma Rebels - a total team effort - defeating Rocky Point 3-2. Both Kenny and Lorenzo scored their first goals of the season and Andrew scored the game winning goal on a great ply by Jake M. & Nick T. - it was Andrew's team leading 3rd goal of the season.
The entire team played well - total team effort both offensively (as we scored 3 goals for the first time in a game this season) and defensively (as we continue to play solid defense).
Great job - all the coaches are very proud of the way the team has played - easpecially in the last three games.
Game 8: The Rebels lose after regulation 1-0
The Rebels played a another great defensive soccer game....playing to a 0-0 tie for 80 minutes of soccer against Longwood. For some unknown reason, the ref decided to add stoppage time to the game even though there wasn't any stoppages. Playing with only 13 players, everyone was exhausted. Longwood scored their only goal a minute after the game was supposed to end. Nothing we could do about it - we have to play to the final whistle.....even if the game was technically over. The goal meant we lost to Longwood for the second time this season - 1-0 - with both goals coming at the end of the game.
It was a great defensive game by the Rebels who went 160 minutes without giving up a goal (80 minutes against the Hamptons and 80 minutes against Longwood....lets see if we can get back on the scoreboard and back to our winning ways as we will finish the season with two home games.
Game 7: The Rebels play The Hampton United to a 0-0 tie
The Rebels played a great home soccer game against the Hampton United - playing to a 0-0 tie. The first place United came to Ronkonkoma with a league high 31 goals in 6 games....but the Ronkonkoma Rebels defense shut them down....with great plays from our goalie Greg (recording his frist shutout of the season) and the entire defense. Offensively, we had many scoring opportunities - but the Unitled build a 4-man defensive wall that kept us off the scoreboard.
It was a tremendous effort by the entire team. The United are tied with HBC for first place in our division - we have already defeated HBC and now we tied the United - holding them scoreless for the first time this season (they had averaged more than 5 goals per game).
Great effort by all....great job boys. Like we have said all along - it goes to show you what this team can do when everyone is able to attend a game - on any given Sunday - we can play with the best of them...and we have proven that over the past few seasons.
Game 6: The Rebels lose a tough game at HBC
The Rebels traveled to Huntington to take on HBC for the second time this season. The Rebels beat them 2-1 in the opening week. The Rebels scored the games first goal as Andrew scored for the second time this season. We had several other scoring chances but were unable set asecond goal, eventually losing to HBC who are in first place in our division.
Game 5: The Rebels reach the half-way point of the season
The Rebels traveled have reached the halfwaypoint of our season. This Spring, we play ten games - playing each team in our division twice (one home and once away). We have now played each team once - and have a record of two wins and three losses.
We begin the second half of the season next week against HBC....we are looking forward to seeing if the Rebels can compile a better second half record than we did in the frst half of the season.
Game 4: The Rebels are victorious again
The Rebels traveled to Rocky Point and won their second game of the season defeating them 2-1. Congrats! It was a very entertaining game against a very well coached and skilled Rocky Point team.
The Rebels played very well. We only had one sub - so many of the boys played nearly 80 minutes of soccer. In the first half, Mike scored a goal on a pass from Andrew to give us the lead. Rocky Point tied the game at one just before half-time. In the second half, Andrew scored the game winning goal off some nice passing from Joey and Nick. Greg sealed the victory with a one handed save on a direct kick just outside the box. The weather was great and the boys really had a good time. That is why we play. It was good to see Lorenzo, Conner, Nick, Jake, Danny, Timmy, and Alex playing well and enjoying themselves. Good job everyone!
We are back to 500 with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses - and are only a game out of first place.
Game 3: Short players - The Rebels lose a tough 1-0 game
The Rebels played a great game at home vs. Longwood.
It was Palm Sunday and Spring Break from school - and many players were on vacation with their families. The Rebels were only able to field 10 players (11 half way through the game)....Coach Mike was very proud of the players who played as we lost a tough 1-0 game against Longwood without any subs. Great job Rebels.
Game 2: The Rebels record is one win and one loss after two games
The Rebels traveled to Speonk to play the Hampton United Galaxi and played a very good game.
Our goal was scored by Mike off a throw-in from Nick T. and a pass from Andrew - Mike hustled to the net and never gave up on the play - scoring our only goal of the game.
We have a week off - no game on Sunday 4/10/11...our next game is 4/17/11 at home against Longwood at 11:00am - please arrive at 10:30am.
Game 1: The Rebels are victorious in our season opener
The Rebels won their Spring season opener 2-1 over the HBC Vipors. Congrats! We were very familiar with our opponent - having played HBC several times in seasons past - but we were never victorious against them. That was until today....as we started the Spring 2011 season on the right foot.
The Rebels began the game without Chris and Greg (who rushed to the game from New Jersey mid-way into the first half - thanks for the effort Greg). We started the game with Nick S. in net. Nick played very well - stopping an HBC penalty kick and shutting them out in the first half with exceptional help from our defense. Our first goal of the season came from Nick T. on an great assist from Jake B. - giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead at half. Greg started the second half in net and the Rebels took a 2-0 lead on a another great play - this time from from Mike....his kick had a "lefty back-spin" on it and it somehow hit the crossbar after it looked like the ball was going to go out of bounds - Jake B. never gave up on the play and kicked the ball over the line for the goal. The Rebels defense took over from there - only giving up one second half goal on another penalty kick from HBC. The boys all played extremely hard and the coaches are very proud of them. It was great to have Andrew back in our line-up after taking a season off - it was fun seeing Andrew turn on the burners even though he hasn't played in a while. A quick shout-out to Jake C. who took a head to the nose - Jake stayed out the rest of the game but was feeling better by the end.
Again we are very happy with the level of play - as we got the winter rust out from last weeks Cup game. It was great to see the boys having fun and smiling playing soccer. We'll see everyone in the Hampton's next weekend.
We only have one team rule - please let a coach know if you will miss a game or practice
We play soccer for fun.....however, we are committed to the boys - the same way the boys are committed to each other as a team...and we only practice once per week if we practice at all
With that said, we only have one simple request as coaches
If you can not make a game or a practice, please call or e-mail a coach in advance / prior to that game or practice......
And if you need a ride to a game - contact a coach and we will gladly arrange for transportation.
Thank you

Putting our Fall 2010 Soccer Season into perspective
This season, our team had many bright spots. We were led by Greg – who just played outstanding in net. Our defense was led by Alex. Jake M. was all over the field making plays. Mike led the team in scoring even though he spent most of his time playing sweeper. We had goals from Chris, Joey, Nick T. and Greg – excellent defensively play from Lorenzo, Conor, Derek, and Nick S. – we had strong midfielders such as Jacob, Mateo, Robbie, Jake B., and Timmy – and our offense was led by Kenny and Danny. We are lucky to have a supporting cast to make our team complete - and when we were able to put most of these players on the field at the same time – they played as a team and played very well. Mateo and Derek missed the last game due to injuries...which meant we never played a single game with our entire roster and never had all 18 players on the field at the same time for a single game or practice. That would explain our record - but the team gets an "A" for it's effort....and the coaches are proud of your efforts - we can't wait to get back on the field in the spring.
Game 8 - Rebels play hard and earn a tie in the season finale
The Rebels ended the Fall 2010 season playing at home against Longwood. After falling behind 1-0 at half, the Rebels finsihed the season with strong second half play - as Greg got his first goal of the season on a nice pass from Chris. The goal earned the Rebels a tie as we finished the season with 2 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties. We scored 9 goals in 8 games - and the goals were scored by 6 different players.

Game 7 - 3 Goals and a team victory
The Rebels traveled to Patchogue and won for the second time this season - scoring a season high 3-goals in one game for the victory. Our record is now 2 wins 4 losses and 1 tie.
Goals were scored by Chris, Nick T., and Mike. Chris scored the games first goal off a great cross by Jake M......it was his second goal of the season. Patchogue tied the score at one just before half. The Rebels took the lead for good on Nick T.'s first goal of the season off a great passes from Joey & Mike. Mike then sealed the victory scoring the game's final goal and his third of the season from Jake and Chris. Our defense was solid - as Greg, Lorenzo, Alex and Conor played great. Good job by all....
Game 6 - Great effort
Great effort by the Rebels playing at home against the Sag harbor United. Sometimes, the score of the game is the is not the most important thing. The good news was we didn't have to drive to Sag Harbor to play this game. We were happy to have several players return from injury and had 16 of the 18 players on the roster actually play in the game....it was the most players we had at a game since week 2. The 2 players that were not able to play both came to the game nursing injuries...one to his neck and one to his foot. So it was the first time all season that all 18 players on a field at the same time...we hope to have the same group at the next two games - maybe we can even take a team photo for the web site now that we have enough players to look more like a soccer team than a basketball team. But all kidding aside, it was good to see the boys play as a team and come together against a tough opponent. We are hoping to close out the 2010 season with the same group and team effort in our last two games.
Game 5 - Just tricks on Halloween
Playing on Halloween, no Halloween treats for the Rebels - who played hard but failed to score coming off the bye week. Next up - Sag Harbor at home.
Game 4: Rebels suffer first home loss
We have reached the halfway point of our season and have played very well in division 5. The coaches are very proud of all the players. Going into our bye week, we have a record of 1 win, 2 losses, and 1 tie. We are just a head, a foot, and a goal away from being undefeated. The boys have made every game very competitive against some very good opponents. We have only given up 6 goals in our first 4 games (lowest goals against in our division after 4 games), but we have only been able to score 5 goals. Our defense has been outstanding....while our offense has been decimated by injuries. We have played three of our four games with only 13 players - even though we have a roster of 18. We have several players with broken bones while others have gotten sick on game days. But the boys who have been able to perform have played outstanding.
On Sunday, we played a home game against the West Babylon Blur. Just like last week against West Islip, we blinked and gave up two quick goals...and shut them out the rest of the way. Joey scored his for goal of the season off a great corner kick from Kenny making the score 2-1 at half. But that was the way the scored stayed, as we were stopped on several second half scoring chances. The boys worked hard to create the opportunities, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Again, we play for fun and we can see the boys are having a great time. We have been very competitive even though we have played with 13 players. Hopefully everyone will use the bye week to rest up and heal some of those injuries....and we can continue to improve and have some fun playing the second half of the season beginning on Halloween at HBC.
Game 3: A cold and blustery day in West Islip
The Rebels played a good game in tough weather conditions....winning the first half while playing with the wind, but we didn't do as well in the second half playing against the wind.
In the first half, the Rebels had numerous scoring opportunities - but were only able to put one in the net - as Mike scored his second goal of the season making the score 1-0 at half. In the second half, we were defending against the wind and gave up two quick goals. From that point forward, we played tough defense and even had several scoring opportunities against the wind - with our best scoring opportunity coming as we were stopped on a corner by Kenny and a header by Mike. The Rebels never gave up - and in the final 30 seconds, we almost tied the game, as Jake passed it to Lorenzo - but the ball rolled off his foot right at the goal post. The Rebels played well, but our failure to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities during the game came back to haunt us - as we lost for the first time this season 2-1.
Game 2: Home Opener Victory - first division 5 win against Bethpage
The Rebels had a very successful home opener, as they won their first Division 5 soccer game - defeating the Bethpage Blue Bombers 2-1 - congrats! Bethpage is a very good soccer team - coming off a 7-0 victory in week 1 - but this week they had to face our tough defense.
The Rebels kept Bethpage off the scoreboard in the first half....after Greg made some spectacular saves and the defense played tough....in a very physical first half resulting in a halftime score of 0-0 and a bloody nose for Chris.
In the second half, Coach Angelo moved some players around - and put our sweeper Mike at forward. Mike made the coach's decision look good - assisting on Jake M's first goal of the season in only his second game as a Rebel. After Bethpage tied the score at one - Mike then scored a goal of his own - the game winner on a big defensive assist by Lorenzo. Greg was once again solid in goal as the entire team played a big role in holding off a late surge by Bethpage.
Again, the strength of our team is speed and having multi-talented players who can play several different positions. Today's game was like a chess match....as each team matched each other move for move in the first half. But the second half was a different story. We had several players out of the lineup today due to injury - but the 13 boys who played stepped up and sealed the victory. Great job!
Game 1: Opening Day Tie Against the Kings Park Rebels
In the Rebels season opener, we played the Kings Park Rebels. Before the game, we joked about the fact that the Rebels were playing the Rebels....and stated may the better Rebels win. Those who attended were treated to a very exciting soccer game filled with lots of hustle, great scoring opportunities, and better defensive play. The game had everything, including the Rebels first goal of the fall soccer season - leading to a 1-1 tie. The Rebels played hard for 80 minutes - the boys all communicated and passed very well....a great team effort....
The Rebels first goal of the fall season was scored by Chris who broke through two defenders to score the game's first goal. The score was 1-0 at half after Greg kept Kings Park of the scoreboard stopping them on a penalty kick. Since we are now playing u-15 soccer, each half is 40 minutes long instead of the 35 minutes we have been playing the previous seasons.
In the second half, the Rebels played great defensively. Greg was solid in goal making several key saves and our defense was super. Hats off to Kings Park who tied the score at one late in the game on a corner kick headed in by one of their players. They couldn't kick one by our defense so they used a nice header goal to tie the game....not much we could do to defend that - it was a real nice play. We tried to come right back and get another goal but the boys were exhausted. We were tired just watching them run for 80 minutes. We were playing without two starters - Nick broke his foot and Kenny was in a hockey tournament...but the boys picked up their play and did awesome.
The coaches are very proud of each and everyone of the Rebels players...especially with the play of our two new players - Jake & Tim - great job boys! One of the strengths of our team is that we feel everyone our players can play any position on the field.....so Coach Angelo will continue to move players all around the field based on game situations and need...keeping the game fun to play.
Today everyone got to see what the Ronkonkoma Rebels soccer team is all about....boys having fun playing competitive soccer. We feel our team is really starting to come together and are looking forward to good things in the future.
Great job!
Lets Go Rebels...

Jake(# 13)
Ken (# 19)
Tim (# 11)
Welcome to the Rebels gentlemen - enjoy the summer - we will contact everyone in late August...
Looking back at our Spring 2010 season - and looking forward to the future.....
The spring season was the last for two Rebels players...Evan will be moving to New Jersey and we wish him the best. Andrew will be giving up travel soccer to focus more on hockey. Coach Angelo retired Andrew's jersey number 23 in a ceremony after the last game - as Andrew is the all-time goal scoring leader for our team and will be missed. Andrew holds several team records including the record for goals in one season (12), consecutive games with a goal (12), and total team goals (30). Both players were great teammates and will be missed - good luck to both of you and thank you for all you did for our team!
The Rebels celebrated a successful season with silly string after the last game - saying goodbye to two players - and welcoming two new players to our team - Jake (#13) and Tim (#11) - welcome gentlemen! We hope you enjoy playing for the Rebels beginning in the Fall.
The Rebels set a new team record this spring season:
* Least goals against in a season = 6
The Rebels also tied a team record this spring season:
* Most defensive shutouts in a season = 4

Rebels win season finale - another winning season - 3rd place finish
The Rebels won their final game of the spring season - a 3-1 victory over Deer Park - finishing the season with 4 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties - great job. This is our third winning season in four tries. Our only losses were when we only had 12 players at the games - and lost to the first and second place teams (we missed second place by 1-point) - we finished in third place this season. We scored 12 goals this season and only gave up 6 goals (a new team record) - the least amount of goals given up by any team in our division...posting 3 shutouts in 8 league games and another shutout in the waldbuams cup game against the division 6w champions the mineola united....great team defense guys - and great goaltending!
In the game, the Rebels got first half goals from Lorenzo, Robbie and Mike. The entire team played great. The Rebels had a fun second half moving players into different positions. It was a great game and a great way to end another very successful and fun season.....
Rebels tie in 90+ degree temperatures
This weekend's game was played in 90 degree heat - as the Ronkonkoma Rebels tied Hauppague 1-1. An awesome game - the coaches could not believe how hot it was on the field - we tried to rotate all of the players for water breaks - but it was just way to hot to play soccer. However, the Rebels persevered and comeback to tie the game with just a few minutes left in the game - as our corner kick king Chris did it once again - kicking a perfect corner kick that looked like it hit several players - including Nick T. and found it's way into the net - great job boys! Only one game left in our spring season - our record is 3 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties.....an awesome season.
Down 6 players - The Rebels played a great game
The Coaches are so proud of the effort the boys played with on Saturday. Without any subs - the boys played 70 minutes of soccer - we were tired just watching them play their hearts out. They didn't need any motivation - they were determined to play well and they all did. Great job gentlemen. With 17 players on the roster, we were missing 5 players and started the game with 1 sub. After the first few minutes, Derek pulled a muscle and couldn't play. During the game, Lorenzo hurt his knee and Joey hurt his leg. They both hung in there. Eventually we had to put Derek in goal (where he played great) just so that we could get a few boys some water and a quick rest. We did give up a single goal and that was the difference in the game. West Islip is a very good soccer team who we beat last year when we won the division and they came in second. This year they were one goal better than us with no subs - Awesome effort! After scoring 8 goals in our first three games going 3-0-0 (when we had a full team), we have not scored a goal in the last three games going 0-2-1 (while missing 5 players in all 3 games due to conflicting schedules)....but we only gave up 3 goals in those 3 games....so our season record to date is 3 wins 2 loses and a tie scoring 8 goals and giving up 4....meaning we are undefeated when our full team plays in the game - lets hope for a full roster for the last two games.
Rebels play to a scoreless tie
The Rebels played 70 minutes of soccer - and neither team scored - as the Rebels and HBC played to a scoreless tie. The Rebels had several great scoring opportunities.....but just couldn't get on the scoreboard. The Rebels played great defensively - recording our third shutout of the season. Great effort gentlemen....it was a very enjoyable game - played on a very windy field @ HBC.
Rebels play hard but suffer our first loss
The Rebels played well against a very good soccer team - but lost a league soccer game for the first time in two seasons. It wasn't for the lack of effort - the Rebels just ran into a team that was as good defensively as we are. Two little mistakes cost us the game - but at the end of the day - you have to score to win - and we were not able to do that today....we win as a team and lose as a team - and it was great to see the boys display of good sportsmanship. Good effort today gentlemen!
Rebels continue to win with their second straight shutout victory 1-0
The Rebels continued to play very good defensively earning their second straight shutout victory, 1-0 over a very good Copaigue team. It has been a pleasure to watch the Rebels play team defense. They boys work so well together. Each week the competition gets better and better and the Rebels continue to put out stronger team efforts. While we were short three players again this week (one of our goalies Greg, a defenseman Connor and Evan who is out with an injury), the Rebels got the shutout with Nick S. playing very strong in goal. Solid defense by Alex, Lorenzo and Derek helped secure the victory.
Everyone played great soccer. The only goal of the game was scored in the second half by Andrew...who continued his personal goal scoring streak - scoring in every game he has played in during the last two seasons. This week's goal would have been a "play of the day" on ESPN as Andrew would not be denied a loose ball in the box. Great job by all the Rebels as we improve our league record to 3 wins and no loses. All of the coaches are thrilled with the boys play......
Rebels earn second league win with a shutout victory...3-0
The Rebels earned their second consecutive road Division "6C" victory traveling to Deer Park and defeating the Hawks 3-0. Missing several players, the Rebels only had one sub after Joey & Nick T. had to leave mid-way through the first half - but the boys used the extra playing time to show their skills. They really stepped up their games with several players only using halftime to take a break for a drink.
Our defense was awesome.....big saves were made by both goalies - Greg and Nick S. - and the Rebels were also helped with the return of Derek to the lineup - Derek has missed the beginning of the season due to a hand injury - but returned to his defensive position helping to secure the shutout making an outstanding play on the goal line. Chris led the offensive attack with two goals....his relentless effort was inspiring to the entire team. Mike added a goal of his own and helped the Rebels close out the 3-0 victory. Everyone helped with the goals but the three assists were credited to Nick T., Jake, and Jacob. Excellent job by all 12 players today - it is always a good game when we play Deer Park - they have a great field and are a very good well coached team. The boy's efforts were rewarded with a shutout victory.
June birthday to celebrate
wish a Happy Birthday to

Team shout-out to Evan.............
Rebels earn their First Division 6C League Game Victory...4-1
Congrats to all the boys on the rebels after recording their first ever Division 6 soccer victory - defeating the Hauppaugue Blue Falcons 4-1.
Chris and Jake were team Captains as they played their old team and they really led by example as Chris scored twice and Andrew added two goals of his own. All the boys played very well despite the very cold game time temperatures....
After our first ever Waldbaums cup victory last week and now with our first LIJSL Division 6C victory - we will take a week off to celebrate Spring break and the Easter holiday....there are no games scheduled for Holy Saturday.
Our next practice will be Wednesday April 7th - followed by our Waldbaums cup game @ Garden City @ 2:00 pm on Saturday April 10th....we then resume league play on Saturday April 17th against the Deer Park Hawks on their turf field.
The coaches are very pleased with the way they boys have began the season after taking almost the entire winter off from soccer.
Happy Easter to the players and their families.... enjoy these two big victories - you deserve it....enjoy the time off from school & soccer & we will see you again on April 7th.
Sincerely
The Rebels coaches
Rebels give it their all in the Waldbaums Cup Tournament
The Rebels were eliminated from the Waldbaums Cup soccer tournament after losing 2-1 to Garden City. For those that attended this game, you can imagine how tough it is to write this game summary....which is why we took a few days off before writing it. The short of it is the coaches are very proud of our team who never gave up and showed great sportsmanship. The Rebels played their hearts out and nobody can take that away from us - however, we lost on goals after two very questionable calls / direct kicks - but in the end it was the fact that we did not defend the direct kicks that allowed the goals to score. The first was called a dangerous play / kick, the second a hand ball on a throw-in when all we were doing was switching players to make the throw. Garden City scored on the first penalty kick, but the Rebels never gave up and tied the score at one late in the second half on a fantastic team effort and goal by Andrew. With less than two minutes to play, the ref awarded Garden City a direct kick after calling a hand ball on a throw-in that never took place. The Rebels were actually changing players on the throw when the Ref made the call. Garden City scored on the kick. While the Rebels were upset, they never gave up and we almost tied the score at two with just a few seconds left in the game. What we can take away from this is that we never gave up, we showed class and good sportsmanship even though the official's calls were very questionable, and that we all supported our teammates after some mistakes were made - which gets back to the fundamentals of what our team is about - having fun playing soccer. Great effort by everyone....we must now put this tournament behind us, learn from our experiences (defending direct kicks better by putting two or three players on the goal line), and concentrate on playing as a team - having fun - and trying to win the remaining 7 league soccer games ahead. Let's go Rebels!
Rebels record first ever Waldbaums Cup victory
The Rebels played their first soccer game of 2010 and recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over the very talented and tough Mineola United to advance to the second round of the Waldbaums Cup soccer tournament....congrats!
After taking almost all of the winter off, the Rebels only had three winter practices before today's tournament game....two indoor practices and an outdoor practice on Wednesday night.....and on the first day of Spring, the Rebels grabbed their first ever Waldbaums Cup victory ever!
With temperatures unusally warm and reaching 70 degrees, the Rebels played great defense - with Nick S. in goal the first half and Greg in goal the second half. A relentless defense kept the Mineola United off the score board.
Both Rebel Goals were scored by Andrew......who continued his goal scoring streak - picking up where he left off in 2009. Assists went to Danny, Mateo and Chris....but the entire team played great both offensively and defensively. Lorenzo played especially well on defense helping the team earn the shutout victory.
All three coaches are very proud of the entire team who worked hard, played aggressive, showed good sportsmanship and great team work. Keep up the great effort gentlemen!
The second round game will be held Saturday April 10th - we will play away at the Garden City Blazers - who beat the Stony Brook Blast.....game time is 2:00 pm at garden City.

* Consecutive game goal scoring streak - Andrew (9)
We have now completed our third LIJSL soccer season as a team. Here is a look at our historical records:
Fall 2008 - LIJSL Division 7 - 2nd place finish - record 4-3-3...15 points...23 goals for...
Spring 2008 - LIJSL Division 6 - last place finish - record 0-8-1...1 point...7 goals for...
Fall 2009 - LIJSL Division 7 - 1st place finish - record 7-1-1...22 points...29 goals for...+/- of +21
This season we had 13 players return from the 0-8-1 team.....added 3 new players.....and finished 7-1-1....going from worst (last place) to first (Division Championship). As a team - you can not do any better than that...which is why the coaches are extremely proud of each and every Rebels player - who have stuck with each other through good times and bad times - playing some good soccer and showing great sportsmanship along the way. Last season we only scored 7 goals. This season we scored 29...talk about a big improvement - Great job this season gentlemen - and congrats to all of you on your well deserved league championship!
Game 9: Rebels win last game of the season - improving their record to 7-1-1
The Ronkonkpma Rebels did it again...winning for the seventh time in nine games...the Rebels traveled to Bellmore and beat the Bellmore Bandits 3-1.
For the second time in as many weeks, the Rebels scored three goals on corner kicks. Chris has become the Rebel's corner kick king. The three goals were scored by Nick T., Mateo, and Andrew....who all tipped in passes coming from Chris' corner kicks. For Andrew, it was his team leading 12th goal of the season as he continued his goal scoring streak and scored in all 9 games this season.
The coaches are extremely proud of the entire team - who really showed great teamwork this season working together and supporting each other throughout the season.
Rebels prepare for the final game of the season
Who would have believed.....with this being only our 3rd season as a team - made up of first time soccer players and boys from the St. Joseph's intramural league - we went 4-3-3 in our first season - and then last season we didn't win a single game....we asked the boys if they wanted to return to play in the Fall and 13 of the 16 players said yes.....even though we did not win a single game - we added 3 new players and registered the team. They returned for the fun of the game and because the boys on this team are all get along so well. There are no egos or attitudes...just a group of boys playing for fun. The boys have really played well this season....the complete opposite of last season.....and with a record of 6-1-1, we have a chance to win the league championship with a victory on Sunday. With that stated, this game is very important to each and every player on this team. Therefore, we are asking everyone to arrive in Bellmore at 12 noon for our 12:30 game.....wearing gold....if you need a ride - please contact a coach - the team is relying on each and everyone of their teammates to support each other this weekend. Lets go out there and try our best - and most importantly - lets have fun in our last game of the season. Good luck boys!
Game 8: Team Victory..with four different players scoring their first goals of the season
The entire Rebels team earned today's victory - after six different Rebels players scored six goals and everyone on the team had a hand in at least one assist. Joey set the pace scoring a goal just a few minutes into the game - his second goal of the season. He then assisted on Lorenzo's first every soccer goal. Greg then scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick from Chris. Mike made the score 4-0 at half time with his first goal of the season.
In the second half, Andrew kept his goal scoring streak alive with the team's fifth goal of the game....he has now scored in every game this season and has a team leading 11 goals. Jacob then scored his first goal of the year to close out the scoring. Six goals by six different players - with four players recording their first goals of the season....that is a team victory! Defensively, the Rebels played a strong game....with Nick S. and Lorenzo sharing time as keepers.....
There is one game left to our season....and the coaches would like to see the boys finish the season the same way they played today.

Game 9 - Won 3-1 - Sunday November 22nd @ 12:30 pm - Away - vs. the Bellmore Bandits
Game 7: Loss 3-2.....The Rebels suffer their first defeat of the season
After winning the biggest game of the season last week 2-0 against the previously undefeated West Islip team, the Rebels came out flat against Bellport. The Rebels, who had only given up 3 goals all season - gave up 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.....digging themselves a hole that they couldn't climb out of.
The boys never quit.....it was a very warm November afternoon....and we were reduced to one sub after two of the boys became ill and Chris twisted his foot, but the Rebels kept the pressure on....as Andrew scored two goals (bringing his team leading goal total to 10 and extending his goal scoring streak to 7) - his second goal came with just seconds remaining in the first half. Unbelievable, there was no scoring in the second half. It was not due to lack of effort...the Rebels kept shooting...but Bellport's defense was strong and their keeper played a fantastic game. We had our chances - but couldn't get one past them. The coaches are very proud of our effort and were thrilled that the boys never gave up....even though they were all exhausted...and all showed great sportsmanship at the end....well done boys!
As the old saying goes - all good things must come to an end, and that is just what happened to our undefeated season. However, after a quick look at the standings, the Rebels remain in first place. We are tied with West Islip with two games left in the season. As you know, we beat West Islip so if we end the season tied with With Islip for first place - we will be the champs.
However, there is a lot of soccer to be played between now and then - but it is great to know the boys control their own destiny.....our last two games are against teams that we have already beaten the first two weeks of the season. We will play Deer Park at home and then end the season away at Bellmore. Both those teams have improved and both games should be exciting. We are looking forward to seeing how the boys handle this challange.
Game 6: Won 2-0.....Very tough away victory at West Islip
In the battle of the two LIJSL Division 7 undefeated teams - The Rebels traveled to West Islip for their third game in the past seven days. As the Rebels turned the calender on October, they started their November schedule the same way they ended their October schedule - traveling to an away game and coming home with their second 2-0 victory in four days....WOW....recording the team's fouth shutout of the season - making the Rebels season record five wins, no losses, and one tie after six games - with three games left to play in our Fall 2009 soccer season.
This week, Chris got the Rebels on the score board first with a great goal against a team that had only given up three goals all season. This was the first time this season that Andrew did not score our team's first goal of the game....but Andrew would not be denied - scoring our team's second goal of the game - making the score 2-0 at half time. That would be the final score as the second half was very intense - with both teams playing aggressively in a battle of the undefeated. The Rebels played excellent defensively - keeping West Islip off the score board - as the team recorded their 4th shutout...great job by all - especially our keepers Greg and Nick S. who got help from many of their team-mates on defense. Great job by all gentlemen - an awesome team effort!
As you know, there are only three games remaining this season - the next two games are home games - and we will travel to Bellmore the last week of the season. Now that it gets dark at 5pm and school soccer is over this week, we would like to keep the team sharp....and will be practicing once per week - indoors in the gym - at Ronkonkoma Middle School - on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. With only 3 games and 3 practices left, we would appreciate it if as many of you as possible could attend the final 3 indoor practices of the season.
Game 5: Won 2-0.....Under the lights on the turf in New Hyde Park
The Rebels traveled to New Hyde Park after a day filled with heavy rain for a make-up that was played on the turf and under the lights. After arriving in New Hyde Park, the rain seemed to disappear just as the game was about to begin. The coaches would like to thank all of the parents who braved the nasty weather to get the Rebels to this important soccer game.
The coaches knew we would be missing a few players, and Nick T. was on the bench with an injury. That meant the rest of the team would have to persevere and play with only a few subs.
The Rebels played well in the first half....getting used to the slick turf field...and had the wind at their backs - but failed to score....so we went into halftime tied 0-0. In the second half, the coaches challanged the team to continue to apply offensive pressure even though we were now going against the wind.
The game remained scoreless halfway through the second half - that is until Andrew scored the first of his two goals breaking the scoreless tie. Andrew added his second goal with only a few minutes to play....as the Rebels continued to play a very aggressive game. Nick S. recorded the shutout, our teams third shutout of the season. The entire team played extremely well defensively and had several additional scoring opportunities.
While we know that many familes skipped dinner for the hour drive to New Hyde Park, and that the boys did not get home until 9:30 pm and still had to do homework - it was one of those special nights that the boys will always remember playing in. Thanks again to the great parents we have on this team. The boys are really surprising everyone with their level of play and are becoming a team that is working together and helping each other. It is a pleasure to coach these boys and we are really looking forward to our next game.
Game 4: Won 3-1.....Rebels are in first place and remain undefeated beating Long Beach
The Rebels played the Long Beach Cougars on Sunday after having to swithch fields due to the rain. Playing back at Ronkonkoma Middle School for the first time this year, the Rebels beat the Long Beach 3-1.... to remain undefeated and still tied for first place after four games.
The Rebels got two more goals from Andrew as he continues his scoring streak....having scored in all four Rebels games this season. Mateo added another goal (his second of the season) giving the Rebels a 3-0 lead. The Cougars scored late in the game making the final score 3-1.
The Rebels got solid goaltending from Greg and Nick S. along with great defensive and mid field play by the entire team. The offense was led by Andrew and Mateo, but there were several players who contributed to their goals with great passing and assists.
The Rebels will now take to the road for our next two games...playing at New Hyde Park and then at West Islip. The coaches are very proud of each and every player - great job gentlemen!
Game 3: Tie 2-2.....Rebels remain undefeated with a come-from-behind tie against Copiague
The Rebels tied the Copiague Rattlers 2-2 to remain undefeated and tied for first place after three games. Way to go Rebels!
The Rebels gave up their first two goals of the season. After outplaying Copiague in the first half, the Rebels found themselves down 2-0 at the half. But the Rebels persevered...playing a very physical game and scoring 2 second half goals for a come-back tie. Goals were scored by Andrew (his third of the season) and Chris (scoring on a penalty shot in his first ever game as a Rebel). Nick S. kept Copiague off the scoreboard in the second half as the Rebels played a tough and agressive game. Great come-back boys! You never gave up and it showed on the field and on the score board.
Game 2: Won 6-0.....first victory on our new home field against Bellmore
The Ronkonkoma Rebels remain undefeated and have not let up a goal after two games....beating the Bellmore Bandits 6-0. Playing our first game ever on our new home soccer field at Cherokee school, the Rebels scored five first half goals.....the goal scorers were Andrew, Joey, Nick T., Mateo, Alex, and Jake. Joey scored our team's first ever "header" goal - great job Joey! Alex scored on a penalty kick from 25 yards out. The entire team played very well.....and we only had one sub (4 players were unable to make the game). Nick S. and Mike combined for the shutout. Our team has now scored more goals in two games than we did the entire season last year. Keep up the great effort....the coaches are very please with the hustle and communication we have seen in the first two games.....we are very excited about the season and look forward to next week's game.
Game 1: Won 3-0.....Opening Day - 1st League victory over Deer Park
Those who attended the Rebels Opening day away soccer game in Deer Park against the Hawks on Sunday evening were treated to a very exciting soccer game that was played on turf....filled with lots of hustle, great scoring opportunities, and better defensive play. The game had everything, including the Rebels first 3 goals of the fall soccer season - leading the way to our first shutout victory of the year. The Rebels played hard for 70 minutes as we had fantastic efforts from all 15 players. The boys all communicated and passed very well....a great team effort.
The Rebels first goal of the season was scored by Andrew. Our second goal was scored by Jake (who scored in his first ever Rebels soccer game). Behind the strong goaltending of Greg, the Rebels had a 2-0 lead at half.
In the second half, Robbie scored to make the score 3-0. Nick S. was solid in goal the rest of the way as the Rebels "D" played very strong right up until the final whistle to complete the shutout.
The coaches are very proud of each and everyone of the Rebels players....especially Coach Angelo who did a great job with the substitutions making sure everyone got a rest and had plenty of fluids - moving players in and out of several different positions. The strength of our team is that we feel everyone of our players can play any position on the field.....so Coach Angelo will continue to move players all around the field based on game situations and need.
We feel our team is really starting to come together and are looking forward to good things in the future.
Great job!

LIJSL Standings
Once in the site, select Boys U13 for the age group and division 6E from the drop down boxes. To see a teams history, simply click on the team name. You will find most teams have been together for 6 or 7 seasons....and this is only our second....we are doing great!
Game 9: Great effort in season finale
The Rebels ended their Spring season at home against Sachem. The Rebels played a great game - as the game was scoreless right up to the final minutes when Sachem scored the games only goal. Greg was great in goal. The Rebels played hard as we were short 3 players - so we only had 2 subs - and the two subs we had were both injured in the game....forcing the team to play the entire game without a break....and we still hung in there right up to the end.
The coaches are very proud of your efforts today and throughout the season. You are all winners.....and should feel good about the way you played today. Good job gentlemen.....
Game 8: The Rebels play great in Center Moriches
The Rebels played a great game against Center Moriches. Joey got the Rebels on the scoreboard first.....only to have the goal taken off the board on a phantom off-sides call. Center Moriches took a 2-goal lead into half time. But the Rebels played their best soccer of the season in the second half - getting two goals from Derek (his first goals as a Rebel). The Rebels kept the pressure on Center Moriches, but were caught in the offensive zone as Center Moriches scored a late goal for a 3-2 victory.
It was a very entertaining game to coach and to watch - the boys did a great job!
Game 7: Ronkonkoma keeps it close
Down 4 players, the Rebels were very competitive playing the first place Mastic Lions. Mike O'Shea scored his first goal of the season to keep the score close...as the Rebels played great in the first half and slowed down in the second half due to having no subs.....great job gentlemen!
Game 6: Great effort against the only undefeated team in our division
The Rebels played very well against the only undefeated team in our division....the West Babylon Blur....who had only given up 2 goals this season.....the Rebels scored against the Blur as Andrew scored his second goal of the season....and the Rebels went into halftime tied at one with the Blur.
During the second half, the Rebels had several scoring opportunities.....but couldn't get another goal past their keeper. We are only the second team to score against West Babylon....and played them very tough in defeat. Great effort gentlemen.
Game 5: Mother's Day Soccer Sunday
The Rebels played their 5th game on Mother's day and once again put in a great effort. Down 2-0 late in the game to Terryville, Mateo scored on a penalty shot to bring the Rebels within one goal. At that point, the Rebels applyed pressure on offence pushing the play upfield....but Terryville took advantage of our formation and scored...making the final score 4-1.
The Rebels were playing without two players...both Andrew and Derek were not able to attend the game. Brian, Robbie, and Mateo impressed the coaches with their great play.
Please continue to work hard and be agressive...you are really playing very well......
Game 4: LIJSL Soccer Park
The Rebels played another very good game at LIJSL's Soccer park in Plainview. The Rebels took the lead for the first time this season on Andrew's goal. Greg played the entire game in goal and made some great saves. CSH tied the game before half at one. In the second half, the Rebels had to play without Andrew who was injured early in the second half. CSH scored a late goal to win 2-1. The Rebels played a very aggressive game in the pouring rain. We had several scoring opportunities and the score could have easily been reversed. The CSH keeper robbed Joey, Brian, and Andrew of goals.
The coaches have been very proud of the boys efforts - especially the last two weeks. They are playing aggressivly and creating scoring chances. Keep up the good work.
Game 3: Great Effort
The Rebels played the Lake Grove Thunder at Rayner Park and played great. We told the team before the game that we are playing much tougher teams this season...and that the score really doesn't matter to us as long as we give a solid Rebel effort. The boys responded by playing their best game of the season. At the end of the game, the Lake Grove coaches gave our boys some very big compliments saying that Ronkonkoma outplayed and out hustled them. Although the score board does not show a win, we played a team with 7 season behind them...who are professionally trained...and we almost beat them with hard work and effort on the hottest day of the year.
We are very proud of the great hustle and aggressive play....we are really starting to get back to the form we had last season - great job everyone.
Game 2: Lost 3-0.....Tough game this week....
The Rebels played a very good Commack team this weekend and lost our first league game by the score of 3-0. We knew Commack was a good team from our Waldbaums cup game. They have a lot of talent. But we reminded the boys that talent doesn't always win soccer games....being aggressive and first to the ball can change the outcome of games. We will work on doing that in practice next week. This was not our best effort - we did have a few players on the bench who were running fevers and did not feel good. So we were able to move some players around into different positions. Hopefully we can get healthy and give a sold effort in our next game against Lake Grove on Sunday 4/26.
Game 1: Tie 1-1.....Opening Day - 1st Game Summary
Those who attended the Rebels Opening day game in the rain, on the turf, against the Middle Country Stingers at Cetereach High School - were treated to a very exciting soccer game....filled with lots of hustle, great scoring opportunites, and better defensive play. The game had everything, including some humor provided when others tried to walk on the public track around the field or bring water to players on the bench (LOL).
The Rebles played hard for 70 minutes and had a fantastic come-from behind second half effort - led by a goal from Alex (off a throw-in) - that tied the score at one. The goal gave the Rebels a tie in their first ever division 6E soccer game. Greg then made a great one-handed save off a Middle Country penalty kick to preserve the tie.
The coaches are very proud of all the Rebels players....especially Coach Angelo who had a special view of the game due to an administraion mix-up with his coaching card. The team started to play up to their abilities.....and we feel the team really came together in the second half - please don't forget that special feeling after we tied the score - excellent effort.....nobody gave up!
Great job!

Good luck to both of you....
*************************************************************************
In addition, the Rebles players, coaches, and parents would like to wish good luck to Coach Neil....Sean's dad....who will not be coaching our soccer team this spring....Coach Neil is now coaching Hockey and will be working with Sean during lacross season. Thank you for your time and dedication to our soccer team Coach Neil. The Rebels will miss you this spring.
As the Rebels players celebrate their first season success.....the coaches reflect..
Thank you players and parents.....
The Rebels just completed their first season ever playing for the Ronkonkoma Soccer Club in LIJSL's division 7E. It was a special season for 16 boys who played with a lot of heart. Here is a summary of our season.
We started the team holding tryouts back in June. All 16 players who tried out made the team. The team only had 4 players who had previous travel experience (Nick T., Nick P., Greg & Martin). Of the 12 remaining players, 10 came from Ronkonkoma's St. Joseph's intramural program and two players (Andrew and Sean) never played organized soccer before.
Our goal was to have fun playing soccer..and learn skills along the way...hoping to be competitive. We only practiced once per week. We did not incur any expenses hiring a trainer because we had three coaches who dedicated their time to teach the boys how to play travel soccer. The only expenses to the parents was $45 for team bags and balls.
We began practicing in late July...and continued in August...once per week. We had a few scrimmages but never had the entire 16 players at a single practice....the first time all 16 players were together was at our first game.
The Rebels lost their first game...and the coaches took the blame for the loss...due to the fact that they were unfamiliar with the boys strengths and positions. As of the first game, the average number of practices attended per player was four. So we held a coaches meeting after our first loss and were determined to right the ship.
The Rebels went on to tie three out of the next four games. Since the opening game loss, the Rebels only lost to a Southampton team that should be in division 2 or 3. If you take away the opening day loss and the Southampton games, the Rebels went undefeated after that first game.
At the mid point of the season, our record was 0-2-3...no wins, two loses, and three ties. That was the defining moment in our season. We challanged the boys to improve on their first half record, We knew that we would be playing the same five teams again and wanted to see how much we improved.
As you know, we finished the season winning four of our last five games. Our final record is 4-3-3...four wins, three loses and three ties. The boys came together and really played like a team...doing all the small things correctly...working hard...and scoring 23 goals in 10 games. The 23 goals were scored by 10 different players....that is an awesome stat....Andrew led the team with 8 goals even though he never played organized soccer before this season. We went from last place to third place...and a fact that should also be mentioned is that we beat and tied the second place team in the two games against them. We practiced in the gym once per week the last five weeks of the season...and the boys really practiced hard.
As we reflect back, our goals were to have fun playing soccer...practice once per week to allow the boys to do other things and play other sports, teach them how to become better soccer players, and be competitive.
As a team, we all accomplished our goals.
Thank you to the parents for supporting our team and to the players who looked like they had a lot of fun while doing everything that was asked of them.
And finally, thank you to Coach Angelo and the coaching staff for their time and dedication...and for keeping soccer fun.
Our teams future plans will be posted on the web site later this week. We are awaiting final e-mails from parents to let us know their decision on playing for the Rebels next season.
Until then, the Coaches thank you all and wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season......Great job boys!

Rebels end the season with our 4th win in five games...
The Rebels win for the fourth time in five games and finish the season in third place with 4 wins, 3 loses, and 3 ties. Great job gentlemen!
What an exciting game. The Rebels started the game with the wind against them....and scored the games first goal....Brian scored on a corner kick to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead....only to have that goal taken away by the ref who called offsides on the play....the truth of the matter was it was not offsides...but the boys did a great job showing good sportsmanship - not arguing...and respecting the call...but no matter how you look at it - it was a great play be the Rebels and a strong finish by Brian.
As luck would have it, Patchogue scored a few minutes later...so instead of the score being tied at one, the Rebels were down 1-0. The Rebels played a strong half - holding Patchogue to the one goal - even though they had the wind in their favor and took many shots....
With the start of the second half, the Rebels were playing with the wind and they kept shooting. The boys put it all together in the second half of our final game, playing error free soccer....showing everything they learned this season...leaving it all on the field....no swinging and missing, big kicks, better throw in's...and good corner kicks along with awesome communication. The hard work paid off when Nick T. tied the game at one with about 10 minutes left in the game. That is when the Rebels took out all the stops and kept the pressure on...with several good scoring opportunities. With under two inutes to go, Patchogue came down with a big scoring opportunity...but Alex cleard the ball to Andrew who sprung Nick T. on a breakaway the other way as the clock ticked under two minutes to play....Nick T. buried the opportunity giving the Rebels their fourth win of the second half of the season.
It was such a great half....everyone played extremely well and the coaches are very proud of all the boys. Great, great job...you worked hard and the hard work paid off with a winning season. It wasn't too long ago we had zero wins, two loses and three ties after the first five games....but we played each team again and used that to measure how far we came this season - four wins, three loses and three ties is a more meaningful reflection of all your efforts....congrats on your third place finish - not bad for a first year team!

Rebels win again - 3rd victory in four games
The Rebels win again
The Rebels have now won three out of their last four games....great job gentlemen. We have now evened our record to 3 wins, 3 loses, and 3 ties...with one game left.
Once again, the coaches are very proud of today's effort.
After going down 1-0 in the first half, the Rebels came out in the second half and changed the game around. Our first goal was scored by Mike on a corner kick by Nick T. - that was Mike's first goal of the season. Later in the second half, the Rebels got the game winning goal by Sean - his first game of the season. Nick S. shut them out in the second half as our team played solid defensively and came away with a very impressive second half - come from behind - victory!!!
Rebels make it two wins in a row with a last second victory
Once again - congrats goes out to the Rebels players who won for the second time in two weeks on a last second goal.....you could not write a better script for this game!
This was by far the most impressive our team has looked and played this year. Playing on the 120 yard "football field" at Ronkonkoma Middle School, the Rebels beat the second place Center Moriches Mustangs by a score of 3-2. Great job, excellent hustle, fantastic finish....what else can we say - we are very proud and excited by your efforts.....
In what seems to be a great trend, the Rebels once again scored the game's first goal - this time Nick T. scored his first goal of the season off a great feed by Joey and Andrew. Greg was solid in net and the Rebels played a great first half...creating several scoring chances. The Rebel's went into half with the game tied at one.
In the second half, Alex took a penalty kick and sent it almost 50 yards in the air.....Andrew trapped the ball and scored the Rebels second goal of the game....giving the Rebels a 2-1 lead. Center Moriches tied the score late in the second half as the Rebels moved Nick S. to goal and Greg to mid. It seemed like after all our hard work, the Rebels would have to settle for another tie......
But with less than 30 seconds remaining, the Rebels never quit....and Robbie moved the ball up the right side to Brian....who dribbled it into the offensive zone...taking the ball wide and making a great cross/centering pass to Nick T. - who scored his second goal of the game with literally 10 seconds left on the clock. All that was left for the ref to do was blow the whistle and the Rebels began to celebrate our second victory of the season...our first victory on our home field.
Once again - Great job boys! Congrats to all of you on your hard earned victory over a very good Center Moriches team.....we hope you are enjoying the season and are having fun....we still have three games to play....
Rebels score two against Southampton.....
The Rebels coaches are very proud of today's effort.
Down three players, the Rebels went out to Southampton with only 2 subs and did everything we asked of you. Again, the Rebels scored the games first goal - this time the goal was scored by Nick P. - who got his first goal of the season. Nick T. also scored on a penalty kick as the Rebels played great...even if it was in defeat.....
Southampton has only given up 6 goals this entire season...and three of them have been to the Rebels.
You all had an excellent effort!!! And the coaches thank you for the effort, for supporting each other, and for not giving up on the team. You definitely improved since the last time we played Southampton.
Our record is currently 2 wins, 3 loses and 3 ties.
Let's go out next week have some fun as we try to even our record at 3-3-3.....

Rebels Win - earn their first victory of the season!
Congrats to the Rebels players - you came out strong and played that way the entire game to earn your first LIJSL Travel Soccer victory. This was a true team effort. It was great to see how well you played. You should all be very proud of your efforts....we hope you had as much fun playing as we did coaching.
Andrew scored two first half goals...one on a breakaway and one on a penalty kick....and the Rebels took a two nothing lead into half time. In the second half, we gave up two goals on penalty kicks. This is the second week in a row that our opponents have not scored an even strength goal....the four goals we have given up in the last two games have all been on penalty kicks. However, this game didn't end in a tie like the Patchogue game did. Robbie scored the game winning goal in the second half and the Rebels won their first ever travel soccer game 3 - 2 over a very good Stony Brook team. Great job boys! Congrats to all.....
Again, we are very proud of each and every one of you. Both goaltenders played awesome...our defense was outstanding...our mid fielders & sweepers were key to our victory...and we can't say enough about our forwards.
Great job gentlemen.
Rebels tie Patchogue in 5th game 2 - 2 to end the first half of the season...
The official score will say Ronkonkoma Rebels 2 Patchogue Medford Dragons 2…but the reality is the Ronkonkoma Rebels scored 2 even strength goals while Patchogue got both their goals on penalty kicks. There are many ways to look at a tie game. Last weeks tie was unfulfilling since we had a 3-0 lead and tied 3-3. This weeks’ game was very fulfilling since we trailed then entire game due to penalty kicks and fought our way back to a tie. We all left the field feeling if there were just a few more minutes left in the game, we would have been victorious for the first time this season. Goals by Martin and Mateo lifted us to a 2-2 tie as the boys played their hearts out in the pouring rain against a very stron Patchogue team. We have now closed the books on the first half of our soccer season with a record of 0-2-3....with 5 games left to play.
As you know, we are off this week…no practice…no game due to the Columbus Day weekend. We will start off the second half of the season with a practice on Wednesday October 15th from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm in the Ronkonkoma Middle School gym.
In the second half of the season, we play three home games and two away games against the same five teams we played the first half of the season. It will be a good measuring stick to see how far we have come as a team. We would like to improve on our record and finish the season the way we finished yesterday’s game. The boys battled hard and played aggressively. That is how we are going to win games. Great job to all….we hope you enjoy your week off….here is a schedule for the second half of the season:
10/12/08 No Games - Columbus Day Weekend - Enjoy your three day weekend/time off
10/19/08 Away @ Stony Brook Blast 11:00 am field 1
10/26/08 Home vs. Center Moriches Mustangs 11:00 am field 4 (Ronkonkoma Middle School football field)
11/2/08 Away @ Southampton Thunder 11:30 am field 2
11/09/08 Home vs. Manorville Mad Dogs 11:30 am field 2 (Ronkonkoma Middle School - our practice field)
11/16/08 Home vs. Patchogue Medford Dragons 9:00 am field 1 (Ronkonkoma Middle School - behind the tennis courts)
What we have learned......Playing hard and having fun
- WE MUST BE THE "FIRST TO THE BALL"...and "LAST TO GIVE UP"
- ON DEFENSE, WE NEED TO KEEP THE BALL TO THE OUTSIDE - KICK IT OUT IF YOU HAVE TO
- NO SWINGING AND MISSING - STAY IN CONTROL AT ALL TIMES...BREAK DOWN AND FORCE THEM TO GO THROUGH YOU....DO NOT MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM TO GET AROUND YOU
- ON DEFENSE, KEEP YOURSELF BETWEEN THE BALL AND THE GOAL
- WE NEED TO MAKE HARD PASSES AND PUSH THE BALL THROUGH TO THE OFFENSIVE ZONE...STRESSING HARD PASSES
- ALL THROW-INS ARE TO AN OPEN SPOT ON THE FIELD - DOWN THE LINE - AND WE MUST BE 1ST TO THE BALL - PUSHING IT TO THE FLAG
- WHEN WE SHOOT - WE MUST SHOOT TO A CORNER....NOT TO THE GOALTENDER...GO FAR POST IF YOU CAN
- WE NEED TO BE VOCAL ON THE FIELD AND TALK TO EACH OTHER...COMMUNICATION IS KEY
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE AGGRESSIVE, PLAY HARD, HAVE FUN.
Rebels tie Manorville in 4th game of the season 3 - 3
The Rebels came out strong againt Manorville.....taking a 3 - 0 lead on goals by Andrew, Martin and Brian.....we played a great first half....
However....we couldn't hold on as Manorville scored in the last minute of the game to tie the game at 3.....
The tie was our second tie this season.....making our record 0 - 2 - 2.
This week we will play away at Patchogue...our fifth game of the season.
After the Patchogue game, we will play 5 more games....one game against each of the teams we played in the first five games.
With that stated, we can't wait for the rematch against Manorville on our home field the last game of the season...........
Lets go Rebels!
Good effort in Rebels third game against a tough team
The coaches are very proud of the boys effort after this weeks loss to Southampton. After going down 1-0 just 30 seconds into the game, the Rebels scored at the 59 second mark...marking the third time this season we have scored in the first minute of a game...to tie the game at one. Great job Rebels - great goal Andrew.
After that...the boys played tough...but they were just better than us.
When you lose...it is important to learn from the loss.
We as coaches learned a few good things about our team this weekend...positive things - and we are proud of the boys and hope they are learning and having fun
First....we do not quit or give up on our team...we kept trying and hustling right to the last whistle...and that is what team work and sportsmanship is about
We also found out that Greg can not only play goal...but is also a good mid fielder. Sean can play forward and is also very aggressive on defense. We have several very versitile players such as Brian....and we missed not having Rob at the game.
We learned that we can not jump and leave our feet...because players will go around us.....we need to hustle and break down...making our selves wide staying under control....forcing opponents to try and go through us......not around us....
We also learned that we really care about each other as friends and team mates....and we are proud of that fact....the boys are a good group of kids who don't yell at each other...they encourage each other...and that will lead to great things down the road....for this team and in life in general.
Hopefully our efforts will be rewarded next week with a victory....we just need to continue to work hard.....remember - to improve the team - improve yourself....and good things come to those who try....never - ever - give - up!
Rebels earn our first tie in our second game vs. Center Moriches
Another great game this past Sunday...as the Rebels earned their first tie of the season.....a 2-2 game vs. Center Moriches
Just like last week, the Rebels took the early lead on a goal by Andrew. After Rob scored, the Rebels took a 2-1 lead into half.
The second half was very exciting. There were several scoring chances on both ends of the field. In the end, we earned a 2-2 tie.
The coaches are very proud of our team. Our two keepers played very well....the whole team did a great job.
Keep up the great job.
We will be playing a very tough Southampton team this coming weekend.

Great inaugural travel soccer game Rebels.......
Hello Rebels....
Wow....First we just want to say - Great job by all the boys....we hope you all had as much fun playing as we had coaching.....and that the parents enjoyed watching the boys efforts......
In our first ever travel soccer game, the Rebels played great.....
The coaches couldn't be prouder.....great hustle.....great determination.....great teamwork.....awesome job!
We opened the season with Andrew scoring just 39 seconds into game. Joey scored to tie the score at 2-2 by half.
We fell behind 3-2 in the second half but tied it on Andrew's second goal. We eventually lost 4-3....to a very good Stony Brook team....that has played for 3 seasons, practice multiple times per week, and have a team trainer.
Our motto is "having fun playing soccer" and we believe we accomplished our goal in our very first game. Regardless of the score, the boys played as a team, looked great with their new uniforms/bags/balls, and worked hard on a day that saw temperatures reach 90 degrees.
We play two 35 minute halves....70 minute games....so everyone had plenty of playing time.
This was the first time since the June tryouts that we had the entire Rebel soccer team on the field at the same time.....so as coaches.....we realized there are a few things that we could have done differently....and will use this first game's experience to be better prepared for our next game.
The truth is, we are very proud of the boys....great job....great effort....the great thing about this division is we play each team twice...so we will get a chance to play Stony Brook again later in the season.
In closing, we just wanted to let you know about the compliment we received from the ref...he knew this was our first ever travel soccer game...and that only 4 of the 16 boys have ever played travel games....the other 12 came directly from our intramural league...he said he was very impressed with all aspects of the way the Rebels played....as if we were playing together for a couple of seasons. That is the ultimate compliment...we have arrived as a team...and look forward to more fun and better results.
Sincerely,
The Rebels Coaches
A note to the parents from the coaches.....
Dear parents,
As many of you could see by our recent scrimmages....our travel soccer team has improved tremendously since we began practicing a few short weeks ago. Believe it or not, we have yet to have the entire team attend a single practice or scrimmage...we always seem to be missing someone...but that is "ok"...for as you know - we started this team with a motto of "having fun playing soccer" and understand that vacations and other priorities come first.
We have only been practicing for five short weeks....we have had seven practices/scrimmages....and yet, we have improved so much....they boys have been fun to coach and are great learners....
Since we have not had everyone together, we have not been able to have a team / parents meeting to discuss things....so we wanted to document everything so that we are all on the same page.
Our web site is www.leaguelineup.com/ronkonkomarebels and it will be updated daily with current events. It is the number one place to find out information about the Rebels soccer team. It has our entire schedule posted on it...and will have important messages such as game and practice times, uniforms colors, and directions posted on it. It also has fun things such as players birthdays.....
In addition, we like to send frequent e-mails. If you want us to add or delete any e-mail addresses from our distribution list, please contact Coach Angelo...all of the coaches contact information is listed on the web site under the bulletin board tab.
At our first game, we will distribute a phone contact list for all players and their families....we will also provide all families with a list of each players name and uniform numbers for easy identification.
The team is made up of 16 players...only 4 players had previous travel soccer experience and 13 of the 16 have played in the St. Joseph's intramural soccer program at one time or another..We are proud to coach these boys as we try to make soccer more enjoyable....while increasing their skills and talent.
If you have any problems or questions, please contact one of the coaches immediately....we will be sure to address the situation immediately.
We are about having fun....but we want everyone to learn and improve. If a player does something wrong, we will not get mad at them or yell (we do talk "loudly" so the boys can hear us across the field)...we will simply pull them out of the game...explain what they are doing wrong..and more importantly...tell them what they need to do to correct the situation...let them think about it...and get them back in the game as quickly as possible....this has been explained to all the boys and they seem fine with that...in scrimmages...we tend to make corrections right on the field since it is only a scrimmage. In addition, we have told the boys that they need to bring 2 or 3 water bottles (drinks) to every practice and game....that it is their responsibility to stay hydrated...whenever they need a drink, they are welcome to it...and if they need to come out of a game...they need to notify us by taking a knee or raising their arms...
As we move towards our first game, many players and parents have asked about team soccer balls and team soccer bags (with names and numbers on the bags). As you know, we ordered and handed out team balls....getting them at a discounted price of approx. $10 each. The boys have the balls and seemed thrilled with them. We have just ordered the team bags...with each players name and number embroided on the bag. The team bags will cost $35 per bag (bag, name & number, shipping, tax)...making the total cost / fee per player $45. We hope to have the bags by Friday...otherwise they will be given out next week (after our first game).
The balls/bags can be paid for by check...or we can run a fund raiser to raise the funds...we can look at possibly selling entertainment books...so that simply selling 5 or so books could offset the entire price of the balls / bags and nobody would have to lay out any money. However, if you would prefer not to do a fundraiser...you could simply pay the $45.
Lastly, we would like the boys to always arrive on the field 45 minutes before a game...on Sunday 9/7...we play at 9:30am - so we ask that they are on the field by 8:45...this way we can stretch...warm up...and meet with the ref prior to the start of the game. As previously discussed, we will have 10 games this season...5 home games and 5 away games...
We hope that everyone had a great summer and wish you all a happy and healthy labor day weekend / holiday....and look forward to a very successful inaugural fall 2008 soccer season...

End of Season....10 game season...we play one home game and one away game against each team in our division (we play each team twice)
Results from our scrimmage on Wednesday 8/27
Just like last week's scrimmage against the Hauppauge Blue Falcons, the Rebels got on the board first and played very well....getting goals from three different players. Again, we only had 13 players (2 subs) but did very well playing for over one hour.
The coaches saw more positive things during the scrimmage......namely:
- We made an adjustment to our formation....playing 3-3-1-3 for the first time...and everyone played their positions well.
- Once again, we had 3 goals from 3 different players showing a balanced scoring attack.
- We did much better on "taking the space", passing, staying in our lanes, pushing the ball through, and taking / defending corner kicks. Our throw-in's were also much improved.
- The boys were placed in positions that we feel they can make contributions to the team...and played like a team....looking comfortable in these position.
- The communication was good but could be better
We can't wait until our first real game only one week from Sunday
Results from scrimmage at the Hauppauge Blue Falcons 8/19...
The Rebels got on the board first and played very well....getting goals from three different players. We only had 11 players and Greg was hindered by a foot injury....so Joey's brother Chris (Coach Angleo's other son) jumped in and helped our cause.
The coaches saw many positive things during the scrimmage......namely:
- All 10 players played all positions (forwards, midi, defense).
- We had 3 players play keeper - and all 3 boys did an excellant job
- There was great communication and passing between the boys
- The boys are really learning their positions...and moving the ball well
The only down-side was we got tired fast because we did not have any subs....
The boys looked great in their new uniforms
We can't wait until our first real game two weeks from Sunday

Ronkonkoma Rebels Soccer team tryouts
The Rebels are a LIJSL Division 6 U-14 Boys travel Soccer team that is still looking for one or two skilled players to join our great group of players.
In the fall, with the boys all playing school soccer and having to deal with homework and other activities...we will only practice once per week....and play games on Sundays. We are made up of players from several different school districts.....namely Connetquot, Sachem, and Hauppauge.....with players coming from several towns (Bohemia, Lake Grove, Lake Ronkonkoma, Hauppauge, Holbrook, Holtsville, Oakdale, & Ronkonkoma).
We play the game for fun...no politics - no games......just a well coached great group of boys (who all get along - no clicks) and families who enjoy competitive soccer.
We will hold an open tryout for anyone interested in joining our team.
