Marek Miller- Pacific Shore League Coach of the Year 2021
The 2021 season has officially concluded, but we want to take a moment and recognize the Coach of the Year winner from the San Diego Invaders, Marek Miller. Coach Miller, in his first season as the Invaders coach, did a brilliant job of balancing a lineup of international and domestic players, a number of injuries to his pitching staff, and one of the younger teams in the league. The Invaders finished 8-19 on the season, playing a very competitive non-league schedule, and though the team had a losing record, the players demonstrated marked improvement from the first day of spring training, and rallied around their manager up until the final day of their postseason. It was clear this team responded to the coaching of Marek, and the other coaches in the league agreed, voting him as 2021 Coach of the Year.
San Diego Invaders 2021 Season Recap
The Invaders 2021 season has come to a pleasing conclusion. SD Invaders played 27 games in the 2021 season with an overall record of 9 and 18. In Pacific Shore League play they had a record of 8 and 14. The Invaders had a slow start to the season but they were able to get their first win against the Roughriders, another Pacific Shore League opponent, on June 23 with a dominating 14 - 4 score. The Invaders other wins came off of the Highlanders, Prospect Powerhouse, and Grind baseball, all respectable PSL opponents. Coach Marek Miller and the Invaders were one of the top four teams in the league and made it to the postseason. They played the Grind in a best two out of three opening round of the PSL 2021 playoffs. They fell in both games to the Grind in hard fought battles.
One season stand out for the Invaders was starting pitcher Joowon Jeon who threw the bulk of the innings for the Invaders, throwing in 19 games. He would end the season with an ERA of 1.19 and racking up 75 strikeouts. Offensive standout for the Invaders was Nate Jakobs who played in all 27 games. He finished the season with a batting average of .306 and an on base percentage of .441.
The Pacific Shore League recognized five Invaders players for their great 2021 season performances:
Joowon Jeon was named PSL Pitcher of the Year and was selected to be on first team all-league starting pitchers list.
Relief pitcher Carter Stoddard was selected as the first team reliever of the year.
Kohei Yamada was selected to be the second baseman as part of the second team all-league.
Nate Jakobs was selected as one of the three outfielders to make up second team all-league selections.
Yuto Mimura was chosen to be on the second team all-league starting pitching list.
Lastly, Coach Marek Miller was voted 2021 coach of the year. Awards were voted on by PSL coaches and staff.
The Invaders are looking forward to building off the success of the 2021 season going into the 2022 summer season, which will be here before you know it.

Sandoval gave up 13 hits to the Invaders and 6 total runs. Minjae Yeo, Moon Eom, Youhyeon Choi, and Minsung Cho, all had RBI base hits. After the sixth inning the Invaders however were unable to score again off Grind relievers; Robert Carrillo, Ismael Jimenez, and Christian Basura. Playoff game #1: Invaders v. Grind July 26, 2020
The Invaders took on the Grind at Oceanside High School to kick off the 2021 playoffs. Starting pitchers Austin Correia (Grind) and Joowon Jeon (Invaders) were dominant. The Invaders would get on the board first when Moon Eom scored on a RBI double by Minsung Cho in the second inning. The Grind then scored one of their own in the fourth inning off an RBI single by Jr. Hinojosa. The score would go into the ninth inning 6-5 Grind. In the ninth inning the Grind added five to their score of those three runs came from a double by Gavin Mestas. Santiago Gomez would come in for the Grind to pitch the end of the eighth inning and the ninth. The final score was Grind 11, Invaders 5. The Invaders look to bounce back tomorrow (7/27/2021) and hopefully force a deciding game 3.
Invaders @ Roughriders July 20, 2021
The Invaders grinded out a win vs the Roughriders at Lincoln High School today 7/20/21. The final was 8-5 and it felt hard fought all the way through. The Invaders took advantage in the base paths to manufacture some runs including one where a pop fly dropped between three Roughriders and an Invader player made it from 2nd to 3rd, then stole home while the Roughriders had a lapse and didn’t get the ball to the infield in a quick manner. A standout player was Invaders SP Joowon Jeon who toughed out 8 innings. After 3 perfect innings he fought his way out of a few jams allowing just 4 hits with 10 k’s and 3 walks. He did allow 5 runs but only 3 were earned as his defense was sometimes befuddled behind him.
Invaders @ Highlanders - Soboba 7/15
Everything was working for the Invaders on Thursday night in Soboba during their 15-0 defeat of the Highlanders, except for the field’s sprinklers schedule. SP Joowon Jeon was dominant, throwing a complete game 8 1/3 with 19 strikeouts, no hits, no runs, allowing only 3 base runners via an error and 2 walks. The game was called due to on-field sprinklers, which were unable to be shut off.
Offensively, the Invaders were led by standout Nate Jakobs who contributed 3 hits, including a double and walk, a stolen base, and 3 runs scored.
Invaders v. Grind July 10, 2020
Grind baseball traveled to Oceanside to take on the Invaders. The Invaders got off to an early lead. In the third inning Nate Jakobs hit a three RBI triple. In the fifth inning Nate Jakobs would score another one for the Invaders with a homerun to right center field. The Grind made it very close though at the end of the game when Gavin Mestas and Derek Balancier scored. However the Invaders would hold on to win. Final score was Invaders 4, Grind 3. Winning pitcher for the Invaders was Yuto Mimura. The Invaders now have a 5-8 record in PSL play and the Grind is 5-2.
Invaders v. Prospect Powerhouse July 8, 2021
Prospect Powerhouse took on the Invaders at Oceanside High School on Thursday July, 8, 2021. The Invaders got on the board right away in the first inning when Stephen Chavez scored on an sac fly by Nate Jakobs. They would never gave up the lead after the first inning. The standout for the Invaders was their pitcher Joowon Jeon. He would throw a complete game shut out, the only blemish was giving up one hit to Nathan Huyler in the second inning. The final score would be Invaders 6, Prospect Powerhouse 0. The Invaders are now 4-9 in league play and Prospect Powerhouse is now 3-3 in PSL play.
Invaders vs. Force July 1 , 2021
The San Diego Force were a force to be reckoned with in their dominant win over the San Diego Invaders on the first day of July. They won 15-6 after going up 2-0 early they fell behind 3-2 in the second and then answered with 6 runs in the 3rd inning. Adam Gacek was a nice bright spot for the force after the starter only went 1 inning he pitched 5 and 2/3 in relief with 6 k’s only 2 walks, 3 hits, 2 runs, but only one was earned. Jeonwon Jeong was one of the few bright spots for the Invaders with 2 runs a stolen base and a double in two at-bats. Medux was maybe the best player on the day for the force going 4 for 5 with 3 runs, four stolen bases, 2 singles, and an rbi.
Game Recap: Invaders v. Highlanders June 27, 2021
The Invaders took on the Highlanders for the first time in league play Sunday at Oceanside High School. The Highlanders were the first to score in the top of the second inning off of a RBI single by Ingrid. However, the Invaders would answer in the bottom of the third inning off of Kohei Yamada’s two run homerun. The Invaders would score again in the bottom of the sixth with another two run homerun by Nate Jakobs. The Invaders would tack onto their lead in the seventh scoring three runs, two off of an error by the third baseman and one from an RBI single by Jakobs. Invaders pitching was very solid also despite giving up two in the top of the eighth inning when the Highlanders scored on a passed ball and an RBI single by Shane Schick. The game would end with a final score of Invaders 7, Highlanders 3. This is the second win for the Invaders and the first lose for Highlanders in the PSL.

The Roughriders took on the Invaders as the road team and not a lot went right for them. The Invaders won their first game of the season in a dominant fashion winning 14-4. Joowon Jeon pitched for the Invaders going 5 strong innings allowing just 1 unearned run and striking out 8 Rough riders and he was a real stand out in the game. There was a strong late-game effort by the Invaders with two home runs. One in the bottom of the fifth by Oliver Sellman and another by Nate Jakobs in the seventh inning. The Force would go on to win this one with a final score of 16 to 6. The Force remains undefeated in league play.

Season Recap 2019
2019 Season Recap
August 1
The San Diego Invaders have put a bow on 2019, and it was one, of if not the most successful season in all of Invaders history. Finishing with a record of 17-4, the Invaders finished with a 12 game win streak, beating their organization rivals the San Diego Force, the San Diego Hustle, Inland Empire Jays, and Peninsula White Sox to name a few. It didn't matter if the teams were local or visiting from other parts of California, the Invaders proved ready to meet the challenge.
Offensively, much of this year's firepower came from the group of Japanese players who proved more than capable of facing top college pitching. Kota Suzuki and Takumi Maeno led the team with 16 RBI each, while Tatsunori Negishi and Riki Uemara led the team in hitting with batting averages of .379 and .389 respectively.
And on the mound, Daishin Tanaka was nearly un-hittable, carrying an ERA under 2 for much of the season. He finished with 28 and 1/3 innings pitched, with 3 wins, 40 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA.
The season would not have been the success it was without the amazing contributions from all our Japanese players. Additionally, strong pitching performances late in the season by Graham Cumming, Tanner Smith, and Cade Logan, along with a late season resurgence from power hitter Cedric Ada and the reliability of catcher Mikie Welch helped propel this Invaders team to the success it was.
Thank you everyone for a great year
