DEDICATED TO SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL AS A HIGH SCHOOL SPORT

Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League (WPISL) is slow pitch softball organized by your attending school district and competes in the fall at High School Varsity (grades 9-12), Junior Varsity (grades 8-11), and Junior High (grades 7-9) levels. Teams are made via tryouts in early August. The WPISL goal is to achieve club sport status for slow pitch softball in the school districts and is equivalent to tournament level slow pitch softball. West Allegheny Varsity was the WPISL 2009 CHAMPION, in WA's first year in the league. In 2011, West Allegheny had teams at all three levels: Varsity, Jr Varsity, and Jr High mostly comprised of players/managers from Oakdale but also some representation from Findlay, North Fayette, and McDonald.

WPISL Background
In 2004, a group of managers and coaches got together and decided to start a girls slow pitch softball league for varsity eligible players. Unlike slow pitch community leagues that play in the Spring, the new league would play in the Fall and consist of players who attend the school in the school district their team represents. While the league began with teams sponsored by their community association, the eventual goal is for all teams to achieve "club sport status" in their respective school districts. The league conducted its inaugural season in the Fall of 2006.

WPISL History
