Coach Childers has been the Varsity Special Teams Coach at St. Edward since the beginning of the 2008 season. He began is football coaching career in 1978 as the Head Coach of the lightweight Redskins of the Elgin Youth Football League. He continued in this capacity thru the 1998 season. During his tenure as the Redskin Head Coach his team participated in 11 championship games and won 4 city championships.

Coach Childers joined the coaching staff of the St. Edward Crusaders 8th grade team at the start of their initial season in 1999. He coached the Crusaders through the 2005 season. In 2006 Coach Childers joined the St. Edward staff as the Head Sophomore Coach. He held this position until he joined the Varsity staff in 2008.

Coach Childers was involved in youth baseball in the Elgin area for many years. He coached Little League Majors in the Elgin American LL from 1978 to 1982. He joined the Elgin Classic LL in 1983 as a major manager. He was a member of the Elgin Classic LL until 2004. He coached at several levels and participated in various board positions including purchasing agent, president and player agent. He was honored by the league in 2005 when one of the playing fields was named in honor of his families contribution to the league.

Coach Childers graduated from St. Edward in 1974. He received a Bachelors degree from Western Illinois University in 1978. He married his wife Denise in 1983. They have 1 son, Mike, who was a member of the 2003 St. Edward football team that qualified for the state playoffs.
