Coach Adams competed in Football, Track & Field and Basketball at St. James High School where he was a member of the Louisiana All State Football team for 3- consecutive years as a Kick Returner, Corner back and Running back). Coach Adams also was a member of the 1989 Track and Field State Championship team, Competing in the 4x100 relay, long jump & triple jump under to tutelage of Coach Irving "Boo" Schexnayder, former LSU and Olympic Jump Coach. Coach Adams was a two time state finalist in the long jump & triple, runner up in the Long Jump (23'7") and Triple Jump (48'6"). Coach Adams continued his athletic career as a member of the Northwestern State University Football and Track team. Coach Adams was a member of the All -Freshman Team and was named to the Southland Conference All -Conference Team and All Louisiana team. After Graduating from Northwestern State University (LA), Coach Adams was signed to play football in the Canadian Football League by the Ottawa Rough Riders.
