Coach Barber is an alumnus of Fast Lane Track Club. His expertise is with distance runners.

He attended Eastern New Mexico University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology.

He placed 8th in conference in the Steeple Chase and was All-Academic 2010-11 and 2014-15.
