The head coach has overall responsibility for the boys varsity and JV team, working closely with the Director of Rugby to ensure the culture and vision for the club is maintained. The head coach is the final decision maker for such things as:

• Practice days and times
• Decisions on which opponents we play and when we play them based on the league schedule and guidelines
• Overall strategy for the offense and defense in coordination with the Director of Rugby
• Selection of starters and decisions on substitutes
• Advising the assistant coaches of their roles and responsibilities
• Assisting to recruit new players
• Deciding on disciplinary actions when required
• Representing the Sharks at Union meetings, unless it is more appropriate for the particular meeting for the Director of Rugby or the president to attend
• Making the effort to stay current in the latest coaching techniques
• In charge of the video analysis and review of match films
• Providing guidance to the team manager

The Director of Rugby will designate an assistant coach to be the head coach (possibly on a rotating basis) for each of the club teams, such as the JV’s, U10’s or girls team.
