Born and raised in Washington, D.C. coach Smith attended Shaw University where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics (BS Mathematics). Coach Smith continued his education at Howard University where he received his M.A.T.

Coach Smith has been coaching youth basketball for girls and boys in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. for over 19 years.
