My name is Eric Brown. I grew up along with my 4 sisters in Mesquite Tx. Go Skeeters! Ours was a football family. I played ,all of my sisters were cheerleaders at one time or another, and my father was a player/owner of a semi pro football organization for basically my entire childhood. I loved being on the sideline and just being around the game at a very early age. I moved to Canton in 2018 when my daughter was born. We live here , work here , go to school here our family is here... I love being a part of this community, and I am proud to say my daughter who is now 6 , has only ever lived in Canton Tx.
I first started coaching youth sports in 1994. Baseball..I coached baseball in Mesquite for 3 years until the kids aged out and the team disappated. I was still a teenager back then so I moved on to other things .Years later my nephew was old enough to play football so I went to his first practice to watch. I noticed the coach was always yelling and he was basically building the team around his kid. Now its not like my nephew was going to tear it up on the field in his first year , but there were kids on that team that could play. I tried to talk to that coach about it and he said if I didnt like it ,then come help. So I did. That coach hated me for the whole season. But I felt like i helped those boys learn and at the very least have a good experience . My sister moved to a different part of mesquite that next year so we switched teams and I never saw that guy again. But I always remebered him and how his constant screaming made him look like an idiot. I also never got to coach either of my nephews again as there was no room for me on that staff. But I loved the game and i loved that the kids were having a good time. Meeting the families, and building new friendships, making sure the boys learn to play this mans game safely was all fun for me. So I kept coaching. Here we are ,right at 25 years later, and Im still a sucker for it. I have coached in Mesquite ,Dallas ,Garland ,Quinlan, and Canton. My last season to coach was 2023 here in Canton. I resigned due to differences in the direction of the organization.I still love it now as much as did then. I have a million stories, and I still hear from alot of my players that I have coached over the years. Alot of people say I am crazy for volunteering this much time to something for so long with no kid involved. I wouldnt change a thing. Being a part of the game and teaching these kids is who I am. Im looking forward to building this new organization in Canton and with the communities help, I believe we can make CYS bigger than anything this town has seen for the kids. Not just the coaches kids. But all of the kids.A quick rundown of my experience in coaching...
3 years baseball
8 years basketball
24 years football
3 years as a soccer parent
In that time I have experienced multiple championships in multiple sports.I have also experienced winless seasons. My approach to youth sports has always been its all about the memories. Not just the players, but the families alike. Yes we all like to win, but as we all know life doesnt always work that way. We have to make a fun family atmosphere no matter what is happening on the field. I feel that it is not the coaches job to win games, that job belongs to the players on the field. Its our job to prepare them, teach them the fundamentals and build them as we go.Then teach them to how deal with with the outcome in the proper manner. I personally am not able to do what I love without the parents. To me letting someone coach your kid is one of the biggest compliments a parent can give a coach. I have a deep respect for the parents of my players.I cant be me without you so thank you to anyone reading this who has ever been on one of my teams. If you have any questions or would like to contact me for any reason ,I am one of the most approachable people you will ever meet.Hit me up.Thank you for visiting our site. I cant wait to meet everyone.
