HARRISON COUNTY COACH PITCH RULES
ELIGIBILITY
1. Eligibility shall be determined by player's age on May 1. Boys age 5-8 and girls age 5-9.
GENERAL RULES
1. Coach Pitch shall be governed by the Rules of Baseball unless otherwise noted.
2. There are no umpires. Coaches will be responsible for officiation of the game.
3. Both teams are responsible for keeping a scorebook. Score of the game should be verified at completion of the game by the scorekeepers. Scores will be posted on the league lineup page by the home team by the following day.
4. Regulation game is six (6) innings. Exceptions: weather, darkness, mercy rule.
5. Losing team has the option of mercy rule. Losing team may forfeit if losing by more than 15 runs after four (4) innings or (10) runs after five (5) innings.
6. Bases are 60 feet apart.
7. Pitching mound will be a circle. The circle will be six (6) feet in all directions from the center of 36 feet. The coach may pitch from no closer than 30 feet nor further than 42 feet.
FIELDING RULES
1. The defensive teams will consist of ten players. Four (4) outfielders, four (4) infielders, one (1) pitcher and one catcher (1). There will be no rover position. If agreed upon by both head coaches each team can field extra outfielders.
2. Pitcher must wear heart guard and helmet. Pitcher must begin play with one foot inside the pitcher's circle.
3. Coach will remove themselves from field of play when the ball is put in play by the batter.
4. Catcher must wear appropriate catching equipment.
5. No infield fly rule. Runners may tag after a caught ball at their own risk.
6. Play is dead after throw to any base in an attempt to get a runner out or when lead runner is stopped by pitcher having possession of the baseball inside the circle.
7. Hash marks shall be placed at 30 foot intervals between bases. If player exceeds hash marks when ball is declared dead, the player shall advance to the next base.
8. Free substitution in the field at the conclusion of each half inning. Substitutions will not be made during play unless due to injury of a player.
9. No player shall sit more than one (1) consecutive inning.
BATTING/BASERUNNING
1. The maximum bat barrel diameter that will be allowed is 2 5/8 inches.
2. Batters are strongly encouraged to wear helmets with facemasks.
3. Each batter will be offered seven (7) pitches. The player may elect to hit any of them. The batter shall be declared out after three (3) swinging strikes or seven (7) pitches offered. Batter may not strikeout on a foul ball. No bunting and there are no walks
4. The runner may not leave the base until the ball is hit by the batter. No stealing or leading off. If the runner leaves the base early, the team receives one (1) warning. An additional infraction will result in the runner being declared out.
5. Collisions are to be avoided. If the defensive player is in a position to tag the runner may retreat or slide. First collision will result in a warning. Any additional collisions will result in outs.
6. No head first slides or slides into first base.
7. Team must bat its entire roster.
8. If batter refuses to bat after reasonable attempt by coach, no penalty.
9. If the ball hits the coach pitcher the ball is dead and the play does not count. The pitch does not count toward the pitch count.
10. Inning shall be over after three (3) outs or five (5) runs scored.
11. Five (5) run limit in all innings but the 6th. 6th inning runs are unlimited.
12. Should a game end in a tie international tiebreaker rules will be used. Last batter of previous inning starts new inning on second base.
CONDUCT
1. All players will be responsible for safety with equipment. Abuse of equipment will not be tolerated.
2. Throwing of bat will result in one (1) warning per player. Subsequent infractions will result in the batter being declared out.
3. All players should remain on the benches at all times during a game except when involved in a play on the field. Only one (1) on deck batter is permitted. No other player is permitted to swing.
4. Should a player be injured, play shall cease immediately. Runners shall be entitled to the base they are going to at time of the injury.
5. A team's manager is responsible for the conduct of his team's coaches, players and fans. No abuse of players or coaches will be tolerated. If improper behavior occurs, action included could result in removal of offending person(s).
TOURNAMENT
1. At the conclusion of the regular season a tournament will be held to determine league champion. Regular season record will determine seeding. Tiebreakers will be determined by: (1) head to head results, (2) runs allowed. The team with best regular season record will be home team for each game in the tournament unless otherwise agreed upon by the participating coaches
