ODSC Coaches Code of Conduct
(Modified June 24, 2016)
Coaching is a privilege and an opportunity to become an inspirational adult figure in a child’s life. Often, athletics provide an opportunity for a coach to become a compass, through your words and actions, to guide and mold a child’s decision making in a more comfortable setting than that of their own family. For good or bad, their attitude and behavior will often be a reflection of yours and the climate you generate on the field at practice or games. You have the opportunity to create an environment that put smiles on their face, frowns in their brows, or tears in their eyes. You are in a position to be extremely influential in a young person’s life.
We want to ensure that games are fair, positive and enjoyable experiences for all of the children and adults involved. To clarify expectations of coach conduct, we expect all coaches to conform to this Code of Conduct.
I hereby pledge to live up to Coaches Code of Conduct and be knowledgeable in the rules of soccer.
*
I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
*
I will not use profanity while interacting with my players and I will do my best to provide a “safe” training environment for my players; leading by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players.
*
I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
*
I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.
*
Before a game, I will introduce myself to the opposing coach and to the referee.
*
Before, during and after the game, I will be an example of dignity, patience and positive spirit.
*
During the game, I am responsible for the sportsmanship of my players (If one of your players is disrespectful, irresponsible or overly aggressive, take the player out of the game at least long enough for him/her to calm down).
*
I will never yell at, argue with, or treat a referee with disrespect. I will uphold all of the below Referee and Game conduct guidelines below.
*
Additional Referee and Game Conduct guidelines to uphold:
I am also responsible for the conduct of the parents of my players (Encourage them to applaud and cheer for good plays by either team. Discourage them from yelling at players and the referee. It is imperative to explain acceptable player and parent behavior in a preseason meeting).
If I have any issues, I will discuss it with the referee calmly and patiently after the game.
If I have a major complaint, or think the referee was unfair, biased, unfit or incompetent, I will report this to my DOC. (Your reactions will be taken seriously if they are presented objectively and formally).
After the game, I will thank the referee and ask my players to do the same.
A coach may not simultaneously coach, either part time or full time, in any other select soccer club while coaching, assistant coaching or managing a team within ODSC. He/she may however serve in the capacity of coach or assistant for a school.
*
I will complete ODSC Concussion Training and put the safety of players above the need to win. Follow Concussion Protocol as per below.
*
Addiitional Concussion Protocol:
Players who are suspected or diagnosed to have a concussion must be immediately removed from play. Player must be cleared by a physician if diagnosed with a concussion, coach must communicate diagnosis with DOC and complete the 5 day return to play protocol before participating in Club practices or games.
I have read and agree with the ODSC Coaches Code of Conduct
*
We are representatives of ODSC, and are expected to uphold the true spirit of coaching and follow the expectations described above. In doing so, the spirit of the game will be alive and will grow and provide enjoyment for all.
Coaches who don't follow the code of conduct described above will be disciplined and/or removed from the club
