These are some ideas that I’d like to throw out there and see what people think. Feel free to say what you like, dislike or ideas you have.

Leagues:
I’m thinking of 3 leagues.

Spring league - March & April. This will be a men’s league that will be a DRAFT league. Anyone who is interested in getting some early swings in this year would pay maybe $25 (I haven’t exactly figured out the costs yet). There are a lot of TEAMS who can’t play because people are at school, are coaches for their kids or a high school team, etc.. This way individuals who want to play, can. Of course, interest will determine if this would happen or not.

I’d try to make it so that the coaches or people picking are of equal, or as close to, talent. This would just be a good way for people in the league to get to know each other. Tournament or playoffs is up in the air. If we had that, it would definitely cost a little more money.

Summer league - May, June, July. League tourney last weekend July or first weekend August.
Formats will stay the same with Co-Ed on Monday and Friday, Church on Tuesday and Men’s Commercial being on Wednesday and Thursday. I’m hearing that we might be getting more teams into the league next year. If so, we may have to have Sunday games also. I don’t know what our other options would be.

Fall League - August, September, beginning of October. Definitely Men’s League and everything else we will see if the need is there. I know there is currently a fall Co-Ed league, I just don’t know anything else about it.

I would like to make it so that the summer league is at least 24 games, plus playoffs, long. Fall league would be more like 18/20 or so games and a playoff.

Divisions: The only league that I’m really concerned about divisions in is the Summer League. If we get to where we have enough competitive teams in the Men’s League to make two divisions, that’s what we will do. Co-Ed and Church will both have divisions like they currently do.

Balls - Everyone for the most part seems to like the Optic Yellow Trump Stote balls that we’re using. The thing that everyone needs to remember is that the Legend balls that we used to use WERE NOT 44/375 balls. That is a major reason why they are not being made anymore. They were much harder than that and just stamped 44/375 and that is why Legend softballs were banned from ASA, USSSA and NSA tournament play. These Trump Stotes are a true 44/375 and if you are a person that hits homeruns, if you hit it, it will go. On these short of fields, I can not see a reason to switch to a harder ball.

Fundraisers - If anyone has any good ideas about how to raise money for the league to lower league costs, please let me know. I am working on something that I hope will raise a lot of money over the winter for us. But, any money we can raise, that just means less money it will cost us to play. Also, if you know of any businesses that can help sponsor the league, please let me know.

Language and Abuse of Officials - This is something that has always been said, but I feel just needs to be strongly reiterated. Verbal abuse of ANY league official will NOT be tolerated. If anyone curses at an official, there will not have to be any warnings of any kind, that official will and does have the authority to throw that player out of the game and possibly out of the league. If you have a problem or a question of a call, present it to him/her in an adult like fashion and if the call still goes against you, accept it like an adult. Officials do not “have it out” for any of the teams in the league or any individuals. That’s not to say that there are not a few teams or players who complain/gripe more than other teams do and won’t necessarily get the same amount of leniency that other teams/players get, but that’s on you. I’ve heard officials say that there are teams that they seem to always have problems/arguments with, and other teams they never hear a word from them. Think about trying to make sure that your team does not fall into the first category.

Hit & Shag - Also, what would people think if we organized something on Saturday mornings for everyone to show up and hit. There is a really good system of rotating people in and out so that everyone gets enough swings and equal swings. We could make it to where it’d be a $1 for each person. That would go to cover balls and the rest would go into the league. It’d be an easy and cheap way for everyone to get some early season swings in, get to meet other people and hopefully get tips from some of the better hitters in the league.

Concession Stand - If anyone knows somebody that does concessions or would be interested in making money running a concession stand at the park, please let me know. As of now, we have no plans for having one unless someone steps up and wants to do it.

Scorekeepers - If anyone is interested in being a scorekeeper next year, let me know. I think we are going to pay $7 or $8 per game, so that would be $28 or $32 a night for keeping score for 4 games. Just a way to make some extra money if you’re interested.

I am in agreement with the ideas that you have presented for the 2006 season, and would really like to see the spring season with the draft. I do believe it would make the spring season alot of fun. I am also interested in keeping score in the upcoming seasons.
