First congrats to all the teams who did well this weekend, it's great to see new teams in the final 4.

I would like to see Remax and Bistro get back on the field and continue the game in extra innings. The non call in the top of the 7th for the third out was one of the worst I've seen. The Remax player slid past the line at home to score the eventual winning run. For those who don't know, sliding at home is an automatic out. Instead there was no call and that run became the winning run.

If it was a close call like a safe/out at home I wouldn't be posting this, close plays happen and could go either way. This was a miss call in the last inning of the Semi Finals with the game tied.

I'm not out to get Remax here, they played well again all weekend. I thought Bistro played fantastic, and for them to lose on something like that shouldn't happen.

you know umpiring is an absolutly thankless job, and at times prone to the human error element, "just 1" I suggest before laying blame you take the time to get all your umpiring certifications and come ump a few games in our league next year, after you blow a call or two or three...I would hope that no one in the league takes the time to take personal pot shots at you. With regards to the play in question. Its a tough call, there are probably not to many guys in the league who are even aware of that particular rule but I'm pretty certain there are a few on Remax, it would have been nice to see a couple of them step up. Cudo's to the Bison's they won and loss with class.

Let me guess Just1, the call went AGAINST you? To call the umpires "incompetent" is way out of line. A missed call is one thing, but you've taken it to the next level...or should I say low. As far as the Bistro call, I didn't see the slide or non-slide but the umpires met, discussed and made the call. Let it go.

I would like to say thanks to all involved in the tourney over the weekend. It was a good time.
As far as the slip/slide call at home plate, we wouldn't want to win as a result of that call anyway. We made 2 mistakes prior to that, which caused the play in question to happen. It was a heads up play by the runner to score. Remax is a good team and deserve to be playing in the final. I used to umpire, and missed a bunch of calls I am sure, but never did I not try to make the right call in any given situation. All of our umps do their best to make the right call - and that is what happened on the weekend. I would also like to appologize to the umps, players and fans who happened to hear my rant towards the boys in blue after the game, it lacked class. It was an intense and competitive game and I hit the shut off switch about 30 seconds too late.
Finally, I want to take my hat off to my dad who probably played his last game on Sunday after a 25 plus year career in the league. He is one of the good ones and I know The Bistro will miss having him on the field.
Take care fellas.

I just want to congratulate the entire Bistro team for the may they played on the weekend and the class they showed in yesterdays last game. I'm sure it was a tough decision to accept but they let the Umps converse and accepted their decision without a lot of fuss. If the call would have gone the other way, I would hope our Remax team would have shown the same class. You may not agree with all the calls the Umps make, but as Steve mentioned, they have a thankless job and for the vast majority of calls, they are correct. How you question a call and how you handle a decision that you may not agree with, shows your true character. Remember, on playoff weekend there are lots of parents and kids around and we shouldn't be doing things that reflect negatively on the USPL.

Jesse, I know some will reply it's easy for me to say because we came out on top in that game, but good on ya for your response to the situation. I didn't hear your rant, but, being as competitive as I am, I surely understand why you would have reacted the way you must have. If anyone thinks Remax are happy the way this all played out they're mistaken.

To Jesse and father,
Hats off to you and your dad, two of the classiest players in the league.

To All Remax Players
You won the game, simple as that. Calls can go either way, for or against. Hold your heads high and GOOD LUCK in the finals!

It's a shame that the season has ended with so much controversy, but some things do need to be said and talked about. Let's be clear from the start that I, and am sure 99.9% of the league, do not share Just 1's opinion that the umps are incompetent - they do an admirable job year after year, and am certain they will continue to do so in the future.

Waresy, we all know that you need to be certified to be an ump, which one would assume means you need to have a great command of the rules of the game and that you have the ability to call/manage a game. The problems on the weekend didn't arise because the rules weren't known, they arose because either the umpires didn't see the play or they allowed themselves to be influenced into changing the calls. In a two umpire system, you would hope that at least one of them would see a play happen, especially when the game is on the line. I can't speak for what happened at the Bistro/Remax game, but I can say that the WW/Remax game got out of control. As I'm not a certified umpire, perhaps someone who is (Waresy?) could help me out with a question. When a call is appealed, can the appealed decision be re-appealed??? It doesn't make any sense to me that this is possible, especially as the umpires talk about the play and then make their final(?) decision on the first appeal. In the WW/Remax game, after a crucial play was appealed and the call overturned, a player came in from the outfield and managed to get the umpires to change their mind again --- and then the umps changed it back --- and then changed again!!! Make up your mind already!!! Once the original appeal was made and the umpires made their decision, it should have been final - right or wrong. That would have put an end to whole situation right there and no one would be talking about it now. The fact that some players in the league seem to be able to influence crucial decisions is concerning. No one can say that the outcome would have been different if the calls went the other way but the whole situation left many wondering what could have been.

There was one other incident that I must mention, but I won't mention a name as I'm sure that he will be able to identify himself. While as much as I may disagree with decisions that were made yesterday I will no doubt get over the disappointment and share a drink and laugh about this with friends and umpires in the future. What really disappointed me though was during the last inning, a certain gentleman decided to make the whole incident personal and singled out a player on our team while rounding the bases. The situation was heated enough and our players certainly did not need any additional salt rubbed in the wound. This was totally uncalled for, not a classy move, and I was very upset to have witnessed this. I will not dare presume that the rest of the Remax team had anything to do with this as they all handled the situation with the class that they are reputed to have, and I thank them for that. But this was what truly tarnished the game for me.

I hope the rain holds off for all the games tonight. Good luck and may the best team win with no more controversy please!!!

Well said. What we need is a no tolerance on trash talking -- out of the game/out of the league.

What's happening with the new Crosby division ??

If Garth and other players are still interested in playing, we owe it to them to establish a USPL division where they can continue to enjoy the many friendships they have developed. He should still be playing if he wants because he certainly didn't embarass himself against the young guys.

Good luck Garth on whatever you decide to do.

Congrats to all for a great weekend! ,,,and good luck to all the teams tonight!

The BBQ and beer tent were very well run and all who endured the weather made it successful..Thank you.

It`s unfortunate that there does not seem to be enough interest in the Crosby division. There is a wide discrepency in ages in the existing league and with the other Wed. night league filled to capacity, there are really no viable options other than to play with the younger guys, or hangem` up. With all the talk about the history of the league and the value so many of our members who have played for over 20 years, why aren`t we giving this division more thought. Let`s give back to them and others who are over 40ish and don`t want to play in such a competetive division.

Can we have some feedback and possible solutions from all members please. NOW is the time, not two months from now....speak now..........

Umps,

I agree with most of you the Umps did a great job and with emotions running high people are going to say and do things they might otherwise not do. As the guy from the Bistro that talked to the Umps on our call, they made a decision and stuck with it right or wrong you have to respect that they made the call they thought was right.

To all the Umps thanks for a great year and I look forward to arguing with you again next year.

Remax, great game exciting finish that's all anyone wants as we recapture our youth.

Garth, we will miss you. It was a pleasure getting to know you and your family... Good luck in the Crosby division if it happens.

Congrats to Remax and JIC, should be a good game.
Garth, you were one of the better pitchers in the league. Your hop, skip and release fooled me everytime. Recognition should also go out to Neb Gayman, Gary Heine and Don Whalen - these guys were key reasons to the success of their respective teams.
As per why we are even discussing the Crosby division as the majority of the members have already voted it down is a mystery to me. It doesn't even warrant my 2 cents!

Thanks to the exec for a great year, all in all, very well done! I’m with Mr. Whalen and am getting sick and tired of hearing about this new division and apparently as is the majority of the league which was made very clear last year after the members voted. The new division should not even be a topic in this forum at this stage as it is a dead issue. It seems as if a few guys are trying to keep this thing alive for their own best interests when it is clear the rest of us do not agree with or support the concept. C'mon guys, let's stop beating this thing to death and move foreword.

There is a committee in place which is currently
monitoring how many members are seriously considering a move to the Crosby Division.

The Crosby Division is a viable option for some of the members and ex-members of our league and there is a workable plan in place which will not compromise the existing 18 team division.

If it does not happen in 2007 then we will attempt to implement it in 2008.

The Crosby Division, if formed, shouldn't be played at Crosby. The current USPL only has Crosby Monday and Tuesday nights. Let's face it, we all love to play at Crosby !
Now the minority want to take another Crosby night away from the Majority ?? If you want to form this offbranch of the USPL, then I suggest you find another park and establish it there...maybe Carlton ?
