No doubt, this is an ADULT league. Last time i checked i was of age to decide whether or not i could have an ADULT beverage. Hell not only can u drink at all ballparks but even amusment parks and fairs have ADULT beverages now.

But those are not city parks, not only that but a rule is a rule. Its not a matter of telling adults what they can and can not do, its a rule. You can always choose to break the rule and deal with what happens when or if you get in trouble for it.

This is out of Dan's hands. I like to drink at ball too, But we have to respect the rules. We got away with it for a long time. Maybe we should go to a city council meeting and bring this up. We always clean up our mess, and as far as i know noone has got a DUI leaving softball.

Just a thought if this has gone on for a long time why now is this a problem.....who did someone offend at the park when they saw someone having a drink.....I know this is a rule and it is a city park but when was the last time there was a t-ball game out there on an evening when softball was being played....again just my thoughts

Is anyone going to seriously take up looking for another option? city board meeting or new fields? This is no doubt a tradition thats went on for years, it's hard to believe they are going to pinpoint "of age" beer drinkers in adult softball tournaments. Don't the police have bigger fish to fry?

I do agree, I don't know of any altercations at the park ,or any accidents afterwards directly from 'of age consumption' at the park!! But rules are rules .. got to be more goin on in marion than to worry bout ball playeres!!??

Rules are rules. We don't need Dan to get anymore letters from the city about this. Sam Stilley (Budweiser Team) owns the bar Just One More here in Marion. We can go there after the games and get our drunk on!!

Just to clear the air a little bit about the drinking at the parks. Number 1, it's not a city issue but a park board issue, the city of marion does not own the softball fields, the marion park district is the owner. Number 2, it's illegal to consume alcohol anywhere out in public and not just at a park. But the most important issue of all is the fact that I was trying to give the heads up to you guys so that no one got blindsided and was issued a ticket for a petty offense. Neither the marion police nor the park board wants the police to come to the park and spoil a good time and create a situation to no ones liking. I'm quite sure that sammy stilley would appreciate your business as well as the other places one could go in marion and have a beer. Keep having a good time, keep playing ball and most importantly be discreet.

It looks like most of you would rather frequent a bar than abide by a few rules.. Give it up for a couple hours...wont hurt anyone but the alcholics!

LOL come on man give me a break i didnt know that going to the park and playing a lil softball and havein a few beers with your buddys after a days worth of work justifies you as an alcholic... Im not even of age so it dosent really effect me any just thought i would give my opinion.

Chief Rinella.
I wanted to take a minute to thank you for the heads up you gave to all of us regarding the alcohol issue at the park. It provided much needed clarity on the subject. I think with all the discussion going on your helping us understand the policy is very important and it is up to each individual to agree or disagree with it. Thanks again and I hope to see you and the family at the reunion.
