Any reason why the link to the Shark incident in Thunder Bay was removed? Not dispariging, simply a viewpoint from one of the two teams involved. Amazing how much you guys can infuriate others with or without Steve Payne.

I too would like to know why that story and link got eliminated. I did not take a shot at anyone, just passed on a story that was on another teams website. I believe that that was very unfair censorship.

Not sure why or how it got removed either. No censorship on this end.

Despite Great Pitching, Xpress Take Third in Thunder Bay Amidst Major Controversy

The Duluth Xpress went 3-2 - usually enough to win the annual Thunder Bay Father's Day Tournament - but were instead only granted two wins because it was declared that Duluth's bats were illegal. Since tournament play was rained out on Friday, each team planned on playing three round-robin games on Saturday, followed by a semi-final and championship game on Sunday.

Despite a five-hit complete game by Garrett Groebner, the Xpress lost game one to Moxie's Athletics 2-1. Their lone run came from an RBI single by Gabe Fransen in the first inning. Game two saw an 8 strikeout one-hitter by Ben Heggestad in an 10-1 routing against the Pitstop Dodgers. Nick Lee led the offensive attack, going 2-4 with 4 RBIs.

Everything seemed to be on track for the Duluth Xpress to win their 7th tournament title in 8 years. Cue the Tri-City Sharks. Prior to the game, the umpires checked each team's bats, tossing out ones not permitted for play. All other bats were cleared to be used. With the Xpress leading 11-3 in the fifth inning, Carl Sievert, the Xpress clean-up hitter and major-league prospect, came to the plate. Coincidentally, at the same time the Shark's coach decided to enter the field with a sheet of paper printed from the Demarini bat company's website. The paper displayed the bats used by the Xpress as "composite," (meaning the bat has a different style of handle designed to hinder cracking without losing the sound, feel, and performance of a regular wood bat) which are not permitted in the Thunder Bay tournament's play.

After presenting the sheet of paper to the umpires at such an opportune time, the umpires and tournament director ruled Sievert out and ejected from the game. Tournament rules also stated that Sievert serve a one-game suspension after his ejection. The game was finished under protest as required and was reviewed by the Ontario Baseball Association immediately after; the final score being Xpress 12, Tri-City 4. Kyle Wojtysiak pitched the entire game striking out 10 and giving up 4 hits.

At midnight it was determined that although the Xpress had won the game, it would not count, and must be replayed a mere 9 hours later Sunday morning.

In the replay game, the Xpress again slammed the Sharks 6-3 behind the arm of Nick Lee, who only allowed 5 hits through seven innings.

With Tri-City finally out of the way, the Xpress once again did battle with the Pitstop Dodgers to decide who would play the Moxie's Athletics again in the Championship. Now having played seven more innings than every team left and being and down one starting pitcher, the Xpress fell to the Dodgers 3-0, still getting solid pitching from Codie Chesney and Eric Hagen.

The Xpress ended their tournament with 35 innings of play in 24 hours, and taking third place and clearly had a different "swing" in their step.

What's the big deal here? One team tries to cheat and they get called for it. Don't use illegal bats. End of story.

I gotta think that from what I've heard, the Shark always find a way to make excuses when they lose. Last years state tournament (0-2 and tons of complaining) was no exception.

Was it a rule for this Duluth tournament? Looks like it clearly was. Did it have any impact on the game? Nope, nor did it the second time they played. What's their excuse now?

I'm not going to say it was the right thing to protest the game, but we did ask the umpires to throw out the composite bats in the pregame meeting. The bats at that time couldn't be proven that they were composite.

Personally, I think the game should have been forfeited, not replayed, but that's how it was ruled.

This is typical Shart behavior. Why would approved bats at the beginnging of the game, all of a sudden be banned, and you get screwed because of it? Sounds like the officials botched this one. Tri-City, you still suck. Please drop down and give me a rimmer...all of you.

Just wanted to say that BenDoane is a retard. Also, enough of this Naughton for Naughton talk. Why dont the three people that keep writing about Naughton and how spectacular he is create their own forum to post thier comments. I am just guessing, but I highly doubt anyone cares or thinks its really that funny after a year.

TCShark,

Nobody likes you or your team except the 15 people that are unfortunate enough to actually play on your team. In fact I heard your parents don't even like you and are getting paid off by your coach to attend your games and reluctantly cheer for you. Enjoy the 4th of July sitting at home wishing you had a boyfriend that invited you to his cabin.

Obviously every hates the shark. I can understand ripping them when they are crying on the board or they go 0-2 in state.

I think it's pathetic to be concerned about Thunder Bay when a guy knowing uses a bat that he can't. He chose to bring a bat to the plate that wasn't legal and he got called on it.

Maybe you guys could find a board to comment on Lindsey Lohan.
