How does this league rate in terms of Competitiveness to other leagues like the Markham men's,York Region, and Richmond Hill?

The answer to your question depends on your perspective. Some teams are more competitive than others. It all depends on the age, ability and execution of the plays.

Unlike those leagues our league is built on history, creditability and integrity. Some of the differences are, new players are not added in the playoffs and umpires show up at every game.

I personally think that half the players in the York Region league are very ego-manical. They show that in the way they dress, the way they conduct themselves on the bench, the way they treat umpires, etc.

They also don't seem to care about doing the small things like chalking the foul lines before the game or tossing trash out when the bin is like 10 feet away.

For a kid you make some great points. Our leagues treat everyone from fellow players to umpires with admiration and respect.

Adrenaline is right. The teams and players from the York Region league are, for the most part, a bunch of losers. But it’s the league that let’s them get that way. That league is poorly run… they have way too many teams, have more game defaults and lopsided games each year, and have many games where no umpire shows up (it’s hard to keep umpires when they get so much verbal abuse!), just to mention a few things. And, as mentioned above, sandbagging non-rostered players into the play-offs is pretty common.

And you think our league has issues with drinking. There are some teams in the YRMSPL that drink between games of a double-header. Talk about getting a head start on beer consumption. There’s an accident waiting to happen for their league executive!

I appreciate all of the points outlined on this particular matter. I have observed both leagues the USPL and the YRMSPL, and have seen the differnce. The USPL I believe is just as competitive and everyone has a great time playing and play with team spirit and class. I just wanted some reassurance. I'm a decent ball player and was choosing between these two leagues to play in,you guys have made my decision alot easier.

Thanks all

28 YEARS IN EXISTENCE, 26 TEAMS, 3 DIVISIONS, OVER 125 PLAYERS ACTIVE IN THE PROVINCIALS, ETHNICALLY DIVERSE AND REFLECTIVE REPRESENTING ALL OF YORK REGION, 8 TEAMS ON THE WAITING LIST, SOMETHING MUST BE GOOD.....YRMSPL

BOTH LEAGUES ARE FANTASTIC!!

KNOWLEDGE IS WISDOM...

The York league is like the CFL to the NFL. They are unorganized and have no creditability. They lack leadership and funds.

Since Mr. Widdy is on the Executive of both leagues, he should know.

By the way boys..Poncho's question was, which league is more competitive. I can tell you, by playing in both the York league and USPL league, the York league is way more competitive. Better players in the York league (In the upper divisions).

I don't think the question was, which league is run better, and who throws out their garbage after every game.

Cheers

Yes you’re right, Bojack, the original question was about competition. But your answer is only partially correct. The upper division of the YRMSPL is way more competitive (ie more ego-maniacal jerks),… the lower division of the YRMSPL is way less competitive (ie more party animals). The middle division compares favorably with the USPL, but I’m betting that, in a series of games, the top teams in our league would beat the top teams in their middle division 7 out of 10 games.

What Poncho got out of our answers is that maybe the YRMSPL is not really suitable for his liking. There is a lot more to a league than just being competitive. The words organization, respect, integrity and YRMSPL are not often used in the same sentence.

Anyway, Widdy, I like this saying better:
“We thought, because we had power, we had wisdom.” Stephen Vincent Benét
Truer words were never spoken.

Hey guys, the input that has been provided is great. I found out more about the leagues than I initially thought. I have played in the markhams mens league, and I had a great time, but wherever you go there is some politics, which you cant avoid. I'm looking into playing in the USPL for the year coming and have played as a spare in a few games. I have had a great time, its quite competitive and the guys are all great and friendly. The parks are nice and convenient to my home, which is a big asset. I have a friend who plays in the York league, and he indicated to me that the North division in that league is very competitive, but when I watched some A ball in Niagra Falls, those guys at the York league looked like little kids playing t-ball.

Ok. Boys this forum has been stale for a little while, so lets generate some discussion. Who's everyones picks for the tournament this fall? Early favorites, sleeper teams, etc. Which players will have the biggest impact? Are any teams missing key players? I wanna hear all the big forum posters get in on this. See you in the a couple of weeks.

Calm down buddy, the key word is predictions, you don't know. Being engaged and speculating on the season is a sign of a true fan, we do it because its fun. I know I enjoy when I predict something and tell people "told you so". Dream a little bit, thats what all fans do. We are fans because we speculate and make predictions before the season starts. Grocer will be the 08 champs.

Jobber - don't get sucked in. I did too...until I found out who adrenaline was. I have to say though, I agree that we should restrict the ability to post things to those actually in the league.

I'll give you four reasons:

1. IF you're going to restrict access to posting on the forum because I'm not in the league, why don't you just hold games behind closed doors? If I have an opinion on something or what I believe to be a genuine concern, why shouldn't I be allowed to share it with everyone else? If you think I'm full of crap or you completely disagree on something I said either you start being a man and tell me or don't say anything at all.
2) Again, when I buy something, I pay a provincial tax, correct? Some of this goes back to the city of Markham which goes into parks & recreation which in turn also pays for the bleachers that my friends and I sit on. If you don't like, buy the bleachers from the city so that you can have a say who can come or not.
3) Welcome to Canada. We are a country that believes in freedom of speech and this includes the World Wide Web. Big words, eh? As long as I or any other tax paying USPL fan has something to say that is valid, there is nothing you can do to restrict it. If I disagree with the +2 Home Run rule, let’s say. I'll give you an argument. It's not like I just leave it hanging and say things just for the sake of rattling feathers. Besides, you think that I'm "12." It's kind of sad that someone that age could get into the head of a 30+ year old "man."
4) I have "no idea" what a good league is? The simple answer would be to just say "well this league is awesome because I got free stuff at championship weekend and I get to go sit on the team benches during games and I get to say whatever I want to the umps and blah, blah, blah." But that would only make myself sound more like a few people who are "IN" the league so I'll go further. I don't have to be an active, participating member of a softball league to know what's a good league and what isn't. But one thing that I do find useful to evaluate people as humans is body language/attitude. I can give you a list of a whole bunches of witness who can prove that I have traveled to different parks in Markham outside of Crosby and Ashton (Centennial and Milliken are two that come to mind right now) but I do enjoy watching and critiquing at games of leagues (more so the critiquing part). I don't go as often as I do for this league due to obvious travel restrictions but you can't say that I don't do my share of homework. You probably know where I’m going with this but basically, I don't think that players in other leagues enjoy playing the game above all, as much as they do in this league.

I'm not asking for a fight...in fact, I don't believe it ever solved a damn thing. But really, suck it up and stop trying to keep the world from turning. IF you've got an opinion and I've got an opinion I respect that but that doesn't make my opinion have any less merit than yours. It's the same with arguing with a politician. If he thinks he's doing a good job and you disagree with that, don't listen to the man (or woman because we're an all inclusive league) and don't vote for them.

The member only implied you were 13, however, with that comment you just proved it. I had nothing wrong with your comments until you came up with that garbage. A MAN does not enter an arguement with the old freedom of speech line, that is history just like the montreal stanley cup dreams. This website is for league members and league issues that is why there is a members ID attatched to it. If it is open to anyone then feel free to comment on the game but not league issues unless you've paid your 200 bucks. Comments like "nice play palmer now tuck in your shirt" or "nice pitch jobber but tuck in your gut" are what a fan should say.

Ps Molina, you were right. It is not a baseball diamond more like a baseball rhombus. Now that is an issue!

My post there was made in the heat of the moment and I didn't put much thought into it so I apologize.

To Jimmy or to all that this applies to,

All I want to do here is talk softball, that's it. I want to make that intention clear. I might not be in the league. I might not even have half the blood alcohol tolerance as any of you. But what I think I do have is softball smarts. I don't think I have to be in the league to be able to tell a good team from a bad one. I don't even bother with league matters because that does not concern me. If you check, I haven't made one post regarding any of the league politics. All I want to do here is talk softball, that's it.

Now you may wonder why I even bothered asking the difference between the "A" draft and the "B" draft. Well, I am interested in who my team (Jakes) might pick and why some of my friends in the league are in the "A" draft. I did want to know what it all meant before I went to Crosby and checked out the tryouts, which again is about softball and not about the actual draft. I did not attend the draft because it is none of my business and I did not plan to stick around for the Fallen Members Memorial (a league matter) on Saturday until Kirk, your president, personally extended me an invitation, at which I accepted. That’s probably the closest thing to a league matter as I‘ve ever gotten to. The Plus 2 Home Run Rule was another thing, but I gave you an intelligent fan’s point of view and if you read it over, I do support my points and use proper grammar and spelling. I think it does absolutely does affect the game play so I believe I should be able to throw in my two cents for what it’s worth.

Listen, if you see something that I write about the games and you disagree with it, let me know. That’s why there’s apples and oranges. What I ask of you to do is to either tell me what you disagree with or take it with a grain of salt and don’t start drawing random points that have nothing to do with me critiquing the games. I said GAMES, not LEAGUE POLITICS. I really do not want this to be become more overblown than it already is so if you want to discuss this with me in person let me know of the date and time of the game and just look for me in one of the bleachers. I’m always open to constructive criticism if it has to do with the game.

Another serious, but sensitive topic I want to discuss is my friend Philip. He’s the blond haired, 5’5” kid you may see or hear. We’ve been friends for almost 5 years now and even if we don’t agree with everything, we still try to find common ground. But what I want you to know is that Philip does have a learning disability. I hope you respect that and be patient with him, even when he makes remarks about tucking in your shirt or anything he might do to throw you off your game. We’re two completely different kinds of rowdy fans but when we both attend the games, we’re going to be the 11th and 12th men. So if you’re going to use the name “.adrenaline” please don’t use it synonymously or interchangeably with both of us. He’s Phil. I am .adrenaline.

I’d much rather be discussing the rained out games tonight or about the Leafs firing Paul Maurice…okay forget the latter. I don’t want to be involved with anything political in this league. I only care about the games.

Thanks.

P.S. If this is just a prank, I have to admit, you guys got me.
