| Lawrence Mark Cubas, high-school basketball coach BRIDGEWATER — Lawrence Mark Cubas, 53, of Bridgewater, died suddenly Sunday (Feb. 10, 2008) at Somerset Medical Center.
Born in Tompkinsville, Staten Island, N.Y., he attended Curtis High School and earned his academic diploma in 1973. While a student there he won the Warren Jacques Memorial Basketball Award and became the first basketball player for Curtis High School to score more than 1,000 points. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and received his bachelor's degree in history in 1977. He resided in Bridgewater for 17 years.
Larry was a dedicated and hard-working member of Garretson Road Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Heather Shelton Cubas, and his daughters, Rachel, 23, of New York City and Lauren, 21, a fourth-year student at University of Virginia. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Cubas, and his brother, Alfonso Jr., both of Staten Island; and was predeceased by his father, Alfonso Sr., and his brother, Kenneth Cubas.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Garretson Road Church of Christ, followed by burial at Silver Mount Cemetery, 918 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are by Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of America, Resource and Development Department, 1275 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 or the Timothy Hill Children's Ranch, 298 Middle Road, Riverhead, NY 11901.
Larry will be dearly missed...
