| What exactly are the rules as far as not having both umpires for a game ?
A few games back we played a game with only 1 umpire and had to pay $30 per team.
Now the part I dont understand.....
So games were canceled friday around 5pm and umpires were notified. About 15 minutes later we tried getting the umpires back because the field was playable thanks to members from a couple teams. One of the umps was still available and the other had made plans and could no longer make the game. So apparently we can't play with one umpire? right? Thats the impresion I got because they would not let us play without those 2 umpires. Then we get the option of playing with 1 ump but it would cost $37 per team. Heres the breakdown we got, $36 for the umpire that was present, $24 for the umpire that couldn't make it and $14 for the score keeper. W T F !!! What is it a freakin privlage to play with one umpire on the field ?
So why exactly is it ok to play with 1 umpire when its convinient for them but we can't when its in our favor ?
And shouldn't there be some kind price differance when we show up for our scheduled games and there is only 1 ump on the field ?

| PRICES FOR UMPS ARE SET AT $23 PER IF THERE ARE 2 OR $36 IF THERE IS JUST 1. THEN THE SCORER GETS $7 FROM EACH TEAM. SO YOUR TOTALS WILL $30 FOR 2 UMPIRES AND A SCORE PER TEAM OR $25 FOR 1 UMPIRE AND A SCORE PER TEAM. AS FOR THE OTHER NIGHT YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD UNDERSTAND WHATS GOING ON. YOU WORK IN A UNION RIGHT! WELL TELL ME HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF YOUR BOSS TOLD YOU THAT THERE WAS NO O.T.(GAMES)ON FRIDAY NIGHT. THEN 15 MINUTES AFTER YOU ARE TOLD THIS, O.T. APPEARS BUT YOU HAVE MADE PLANS. WOULD YOU WANT TO GET PAID??? THE UMPIRE THAT WAS SCHEDULE WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID, RIGHT? YOU GUYS HAD AN OPTION TO PLAY YOUR GAME IF YOU PAID HIM HIS FEE HE WOULD OF GOTTEN FOR UMPING AND THE OTHER UMPIRE THE FEE OF UMPING BY HIMSELF. REMEMBER HERE THE UMPIRE ARE NOT AT FAULT AT ALL. JAY WAS JUST DOING WHAT HE WAS TOLD BY THE TOWN, AND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW THE TOWN OF BRISTOL HAS PASSED A NEW TOWN ORDINANCE THAT IF THERE IS ONE SOFT SPOT ON THE FIELD THE FEILD IS CLOSED FOR THE DAY, NEVER MIND PUDDLES. IF THE REC DIRECTOR SAW THE FIELD IN THE AFTERNOON HE WOULD OF SUSPEND YOUR LEAGUE A WEEK OF PLAY ON THE FIELD BECAUSE OF BREAKING THE ORDINANCE. YOU GUYS ALREADY HAD A WARNING AT THE BEGINING OF THE SEASON BECAUSE ALL THE DIRT THEY FOUND ON THE BLACKTOP AROUND THE FIELD. SO IF YOU OR ANYONE OUT THERE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY THEN GIVE ME A CALL AND I WOULDN'T MIND GOING OVER IT AGAIN. BY THE WAY KEVIN, REMEMBER YOU WERE IN CHARGE OF THIS LEAGUE LAST SUMMER BUT YOU QUIT BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T HANDLE IT. I WOULD REALLY APPECIATE IT IF YOU KEPT YOUR WHINNING TO YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU SHOULD KNOW WE DON'T NEED ANYMORE BITCHING.

| Well I wouldn't exactly call it crying. But Chris you know if it was an A division night you would have been down there as early as possible and done everything in your power to play. The Rec director is down there all day don't you think he may have seen the field and thought it was playable. There was a couple soft spots on the field around home the bases obviously all the low spots. All it needed was a little hand work. Those spots dried right up it just needed to be roughed up so it would air out. C'mon it rained hard that morning don't you think if it were you actually I know if it was your night you would have made some calls to your friends to get guys down there and see what kind of shape the field was and you. Obviously you cant expect to show up 1 hour before the first game when we had the weather we did and think you are going to jump on machine and make the field look pretty. Thats not how it happens. And if the field was in that bad of shape why was the infield dragged by the tractor ?? So your telling me its to wet to put a team on it but you can put a tractor on it with a screen and 3 cement weights on the back rigt.
With the umpire i just didnt understand the pricing going up with only 1 ump on the field but whatever.
I quit this year your right because of all the stupid BS. But when I was helping out we were down there doing whatever we had to do to get that field ready. A little manual labor dosn't hurt and in fridas case thats all it needed. Next time we have some soggy weather maybe I'll just offer to get the keys from you and get down there at 3:30 and make sure there is enough time. I told you guys I would help but just couldn't be fully commited.

| Good for you Harvey. A great reply back to another stupid comment . of course it cost more money for one ump. he's doing the work the work for two . { wake up } anyway that other ump is a personal friend of mine and he was told not to show up for work , so thats it. ANYWAY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK HARVEY.

| I know this isnt necessarily a question for Chris as the umpires are not under his control, but...why couldnt another umpire, willing to fill in, simply just swap out days, much like workers in unions do all the time. We were told this wasnt possible even if we could find a fill in, as many of the guys in that work the games live locally and might be willing to help us out.

| THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS IT WAS TO LATE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT AS IT WAS ALREADY 5:25 WHEN I WAS CALLED TO GET THE UMPIRES BACK. PLUS ALL THE LOCAL GUYS WERE WORKING OTHER PLACES.
