first game was awsome but the second game the crowe could not hit the ball atleast thats the way i see it! for sure in the third our 12 runs helped no doubt in the third of the first game they do have a good team lots of speed but nothing like i thought it was going to be! in my eyes no reson why the crow did not take 2!

Botelho swept a hard hitting Harris team at Ravenwood. 14-12 and 11-8 or something close to that. First game we battled back in extreme heat ..down one in the 7th..considine hit a two run jimmy jack for the win. Second game..we got ahead,it was hot..I forget the rest. I will say Harris is full of hard hitters. I wanna be Lezniak when I grow up. Horta is my new nominee took take over my nickname when I retire...next week. He has some serious snap. For the good guys, D-Train once again out hustled everybody on the field..and hit the piss out of the ball. Ian did what leader off hitters do..went 5-6 ..and what can you say about considine except he crushes. Two more fence busters today. I have to mention Ted our pitcher. He and Benny are two of the better picthers in the league..and it was HOT...and he still managed to get 4 or 5 hits. Close games....we were just a little bit better today. We will see Harris again I am sure.

I found it....
Ok here it is
We have all heard of great ball players in our time but no one more renouned for there nick name's the pitchers like Babe Ruth - The Sultan of Swat or
Fred McGriff - The Crime Dog.. heck even Ron Guidry had one ...Louisiana Lightning. but 1 name was taken that i think we could have given out today....
Photobucket

Thats right " Shoe less Joe Jackson

This is all that is left from the feet of one of the greatest pitchers our little town of Coventry has ever seen....Rob Raymond

See Rob thought it would be ok to go down to the lake behind the field at Club Jogues today( yes there is a lake back there) and take a little dip after a massive beating that Jordon (the Pub's Pitcher) and the rest of his team gave us today but to Rob's disbelief the edge of the pond was full of muck and crap. We were back inside having an Ice Cold Beer..only $2 i may add, and this is what the after effect resulted

Photobucket

It sucked of one of his shoe's and ate it like a bad 3-2 pitch that he has givin out to so many people in the past....Way to go Chief 1 Shoe Pitching...LOL

yes just like was said in the past and despite lb4lb's and others comments the balls did and will continue to turn to socks in hot weather. In cold weather they fly. In hot weather they are average at best. As the summer moves along the talk of the balls will switch from it's juiced to how bad they are.

Any softball will perform at a lower level in higher temperature. When the softball is cold it gets harder. Harder softball causes a bat to flex more (hence why a 500 lb compression ball will fly a lot further than a 375 lb compression ball). The opposite is also true as you saw yesterday. The humid air was also a big factor as the more humid it is, the harder it is for a ball to travel through it.

As far as what Considine mentioned about the balls this year being a joke, I thought we were using the same specs as the ASA gold dots? Smitty can you give some insight? It just seemed to me like these were better quality softballs then were used in the past and they just keep their compression longer.

I dont know about the balls not being good in the heat. I saw some balls go out of Ravenwood like they were shot out of a cannon. Niel had like ten,Considine hit a bigtime shot along with a few others thrown in there.I will take lb's excuse and say it was so hot I dont remember all of it.Absolute slugfest out in the woods.

Has anyone noticed that Ian is lurking near the top all year for the weekly picks? His plan is to hover there and strike late. And of cou4rse no one can actually see his picks.

Most have played enough ball to recognize that these balls are sick. I am going to take it to another level and site Occam's Razor. A principle I first heard of in college that I now accept as fact in life in general. It simply states that if all other things are equal, the simpleist solution is most often correct.

My eyes tell me I have seen balls travel further than I have seen at any point in my life. So, in spite of Ian (my teammate) saying these balls are the same as we used previously, it cannot be true. USSSA bats don't make that much of a difference. There are 5-6 teams that have the talent to win this year. The team that wins will be the team that will most effectively uses their HR's.

I fully expect to be torn a new asshole by Big Country, Smitty, Ryno, definetly Stevens in a most humorous way, EW33, and several others for this post. Have at it. It is only my hope that I can educate this league:)

I'll start the action then.

First time that college education has even been put to use.

As far as the actual point of the balls. I have not seen this kind of offensive output in years. The balls will get softer as Ernie said and Ryman translated, but not by enough to make them the grapefruits we have been playing with in years past.

Ryno...without throwing a teammate under the bus, Teddy left the yard with some room to spare at Foster vs. VFW. Does that not raise an eyebrow about our equipment?

It just seems to me that the softballs we use are better quality than the Worth softball we've used in the past (and that are used in my other league). They just seem to retain their compression longer. The heavier flex of the USSSA bats could also be contributing to the softballs not breaking in as quickly as the seemingly lower quality Worth softballs coupled with a stiffer ASA bat. It doesn't seem to me that there's anyone in the league with a good amount of homeruns that anyone wouldn't have expected to have a lot of homeruns.

i said the same core and same compression but obviously the ingredients are different. i will say this...sunday we played harris and it was two great games just what you'd expect. both teams hit about 7 home runs on the day.

then we went to johnston to play a tournament. the balls were horrific. way too soft. in four games i remember 4 balls going over an outfielders head and no one even hit the fence. mazulla is 295 all the way around and i remember one, one hopped the fence. scores were 5-4 in 12 innings, 3-1, 8-3. one run was like a normal 5 runs. it was awful.
