TOPIC: the cost for softball |

| with the cost of everything these days i feel $360 a team is really high i wonder what is the cost of running a softball league if you have 8 teams thats almost 3,000 dollars 2,880 to be exact then consider say 5 leagues thats about 15,000 seems a bit high. with that coming in each season we should have a better feild to play on. i bet insurance is the biggest cost even though everyone has to sign a play at own risk form. anybody know what the break down on the cost of running a league is?

| we can have some better balls also. we should do like hesperia does if you are a returning team its 50 less pretty soon everyone will be playing in hesperia the price is high at least hire a scorekeeper for the games and maybe an annoncer that would be cool scorekeepers can get 10 dollars a game so 360 yes is high i agree.

| we dont even use the lights as much too i dont get the cost why is it so much there is way over 20 teams thats alot of money

| John, here's the math. Your $360 pays for 10 games on average. That's $36 per game. For that you get an umpire, prepped fields (dragging, watering and lining), maintained fields (watering, mowing, cultivating etc. (have you seen how much those mowers cost?)), Lights, (satellite system (don't get me started on the cost of a good satellite these days), bulb replacemnt etc.), equipment (balls, bases, scorecards, etc.) You get administrative staff (people to answer the phones, take registration, make schedules, create and monitor a website, answer emails.) and when you come down to Hook the lights are on and there is toilet paper in the clean bathrooms!
Everybody works hard so you won't have something to complain about because, after all, recreation is supposed to be fun.

| Play in Cucamonga and the price is $480-$520 for 10 games. It may be more now since I haven't been there in a couple of years.

| yea and they also have umps that know the rules and have updated bat list. there fields are also in great condition.

| Well yes we hardly use the lights at Eva Dell also you say to keep the fields in good condition well thats not true many times the grass is way high the Eva dell fields especially Field 1 are not good there are little hills everywhere its not raked nice or watered even the lines for the batters box aren't there. scorecards easy fix make copys of them instead of buying new all the time. we should at least do 300 a team early bird then 330 after that.

| I agree and u cant compare down the hill fields , they have higher prices but they play on fields of dreams. Their fields r like stadiums, with beer and food. So their prices r justified. Not to mention they dont have two months in between seasons.

| This is turning into a grass is greener thread... It was just a year or so ago when RC cancelled all softball and soccer leagues to let the fields recover due to over use. We all have little trade offs. I have visited all the fields up here and many down the hill and ours remain some of the best fields around. Especially when you consider that we have a much shorter growing season than fields down the hill. It's too cold in the winter to repair fields damaged by overuse in the Summer. We have staff working on our fields every day of the week.
Some Spring leagues just ended because of all the extra holidays in Spring and Summer, and some did end in June. One solution might be to offer shorter leagues in the Spring and come back right away with a Summer League in June. We'll look into that for next season.
Also, to avoid a two month break, we offer leagues in August with our August Heat season. Plus we have a SCMAF qualifier coming up on August 23.

| We play in a lot of tournaments and in the winter we always play in rancho to try and beat the weather. Althought the fields are bigger and better kept down the hill it is also much much more expensive. It cost us 550 dollars to play a 10 game winter schedule plus another 25 dollar fee for not being residents of the city. Then we had to drive down the hill every week to play our league games. The competition was not great. Only one team gave us a hard time and we ended up taking second. I feel that for leagues, Victorville provides a nice combination of reasonable price, close to home, decent fields, and good competition. There are probably five or six great teams in the desert that would stomp all the teams in Rancho. We get to play these teams up here for far less money and time. The only hard part is the homerun situation on the small fields. Its a give and take and there are far more positives than negatives with the victorville ball. Great job Mr. Coleman and thank you.

| Agreed. V.V. is still worth the fees we pay here.
But if you need volunteer labor and perhaps materials in exchange for advertising to move the fences back and raise them to 8 or 10 feet at Eva Dell let us know- we have the manpower and the support behind you to do it incurring the minimum cost possible to the city.
