| AT THE SOCCER MEETING IT WAS CLEAR THAT WHEN THIS SITUATION HAPPENS,, SAME WON, SAME LOST SAME EVERYTHING.. THEN GOALS AGAINST WOULD COME NEXT.. IF STILL SAME.. THEN GOALS IN FAVOR...
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE,, WHY IS MY TEAM IN 5TH PLACE... I BELIEVE IT IS A HUGE MISTAKE AND SHOULD BE FIXED NOW...

| Did your team win or lose in the 'head to head' game vs. each other? if you lost, then that is why you are in 5th and they are 4th.

| AT the meeting it was established that when two teams have same outcome in games won games lost.. the next team would be the goals against, then goals in favor... not how we did when we played eachother..

| If that's the case,,, I think we deserve a rematch against them... and then see who goes up.. It was just one game against them.. we need two games,, to make it fair... don't u think...

| No, there should be no rematch. Wins are as crucial to get in the regular season as they are in the playoffs.
The following is taken from the soccer bylaws in the handouts section of this website:
1. Standings are determined by using the best win percentage. In the event of a tie for first place, head-to-head competition will determine the outcome, followed by goals scored against in that competition, then goals scored against overall, to determine final standings.
| I appreciate u helping clear up somethings.. Although I do think that it is not fair,, since both teams have same outcome,, same PCT>.. yeah,, they won against us,, but we won against others.. bottom line is that we have same wom same lost.. Next it should be about goals against then goals in favor.. I will talk to Dave about it though,, thanks... where did u get the info from.. what handout.. I will need to read it..

| I've talked to other soccer coaches already and they too had no clue about how this case was going to be handled.. they also don't like the outcome.. but I guess it will be discussed at the meeting...
This is soccer, not baseball, nor basketball.. Rules are different for each sport.. and I still believe we should be 4th. .not 5th..

| That's exactly what I am arguing.. the goal differential,, The problem here is that because we once lost to them.. we have a lower spot, but we have less goals scored on.. and more in favor.. why mentions the goals if a tie for playoffs is decided by a previous game..
I don't think is fair,, but doubt I can change anything now..

| Real soccer needs to be better defined.
You are stating a FIFA rule for determining who should go to the World Cup or similiar and that means deciding the placing of almost a hundred teams playing a lot of games against varied opponents.
That's not what we have here. We have pool play.
When it comes to pool play and teams are tied, they look at head to head first.
You'll get a chance to see the same Pool Play tie breaker in action at the Olympics starting on Aug. 8 (USA vs Netherlands Aug. 10, Netherlands is very good)

| Overall we had a better outcome,, and that should have counted.. We have better results .
Isn't that what it's all about (in soccert)... "Goal differential" in a tie breaker.. not one game..

| In all the soccer tournaments ive played in and still play in, it always resolve group play tiebreakers with Head to Head outcome then goal differential. Never do they base it on goals against or Goals for...but goal differential but only if the head to head competition cannot determine a victor.
In either case, the rules for the victorville league on this matter are posted on this website and it clearly states that ties will first be determined by head to head outcome, then goals against.
Personally, i'd rather it be head to head then goal differential. I dont like punishing teams with strong offenses but weak defenses in leagues. It should be differential.

| I woudn't complain if the head to head was based on two games against same team... not one game.. how is that fair..
bottom line. i don't like this rule,, but it's just my personal opinion...
if it comes to a tie.. then play a game between the two teams and break the tie..

| I think head to head one game is how most matches are played! : ) Sounds pretty fair to me. But seriously, we use goals against instead of differential because there is no incentive to run up the score on a lower opponent.
Weird that Olympic soccer has already started, and that the US Women's team already lost to the Netherlands. How can the US, with so many soccer girls, be so dependant on Wombach to score all their goals?
