Things to remember for the playoffs:

•The home team is the highest seed from the regular season for the round robin.
•The home team for the games on Sunday is the highest seed after the round robin.
•The sixth seed after the round robin will be the home team in the “Play in game”
•All games are 7 innings
•The home team must bat in the bottom of the 7th if they are not up by 7.
•The international tie breaker rule will apply if the game is tied after 7 innings. The inning starts with one out and a man on second base. The last out from the previous inning must be the runner starts at second base.
•Two umpires will be working each game
•The winning team has to get the umpire signature on the sheet and return it to the Crosby tent
•The home team must put in the bags.
•Doug will deliver the bags for the games at Milliken on Saturday morning.
•The winning team after the last cony semi finals will bring the bags back to Crosby.
•The umpires will have the balls.
•The umpires will be checking all bats before the games
•No tags at home plate.
•All members from each team should be encouraged to participate in the playoffs.

The HR contest will be moved to accommodate “rainout” games.

Good Luck to all. Play safe have fun and respect all members.

Yes, thanks for all this.

Just a thought on the playoff tie-breaker. Maybe I'm missing something, but shouldn’t “Runs Against” be considered before “Runs For” when determining who should move on. If not, aren’t we’re encouraging teams to run up the score. Suppose a team is up 20-0... they’re going to be +7. But if another team that they’re tied with is also +7, the next tie breaker is “Runs For”, so what’s the incentive for good sportsmanship and not embarrassing the other team by making it 40-0 and increase your number of runs. Do you really want guys going first-to-third when it’s a blow-out? That’s how bad blood starts.

Something to think about, maybe not for this year, but as we learn and develop for next year.

Thanks.

I Agree with Gimme and Houghts!

An example of this came up last weekend in Niagara Falls where 2 teams tied at 3-1. After comparing Head to head (didn't play), then plus/minus (tied), you need to go to ACTUAL or TRUE plus/minus. In your example on the playoff schedule link, Team A's true +- is +18, whereas Team B's true +- is +22. Therefore team B should be the one advancing, not Team A as in your example. This gives more importance to the runs against as well. As teams analyze their position sometimes running up the score is the only way to get in, but things are usually decided before it gets to that 4th and 5th deciding factor. I think it's a good rule (TRUE +-) that we could implement before the playoffs start.

Any thoughts Chris, Widds, Cuddles, Kirk and the rest?

Since others are weighing in and seem to disagree with the tiebreaking rules I would like to reiterate my point from a week ago stating that any runs for or runs against should not be used as we cut teams off at a 7 run differential. The visiting team always has the advantage of winning a tiebreaker since they can never be stopped at a plus 7 differential (ie. they should under your rules keep piling on the score when they are up by 20 in the last inning), this rule penalizes the home team hence the team that played well during the regular season. I would love to see Remax, Bisons or DST not make it to Sunday because of this tiebreaker since odds are they will bat less than any other team!

Can someone write something positive on this forum? Like despite of all the rain we completed the season before the playoffs started.
Most of this nonsense is from misinformed individuals that offer up their opinion that is not worth a pint of parrot piss.

OK BT, please advise why are misinformed or why we are wrong with any of our assumptions?

From above: “All members from each team should be encouraged to participate in the playoffs.”

Which implies that the fair play rule is in effect for the playoffs, just like the regular season. That means we’re not going resort to sneaking the odd extra unfair sit, are we? Right, Norm??

MAS beat us last night, no question. But like all the other infractions that go on ie. draft day or phone calls telling players they won't be needed in the playoffs, and teams not sitting players this too will go without consequences.

Hey Gimme,

As Hought asked before,do not know who you are and do not give a _____ about you, as you are a good shit disturber. Jamie B FYI if you counted properly last night we had 13 players playing, Russ Gregory 0ur 14th player was our third base coach as he has a torned calf muscle and our 15th player Adnan Darr is traveling on business and will be back on Friday.

Best of luck the rest of the way.
Normand L. and that is my real name.

I suppose then that the player on your team who left early complaining that he was supposed to be in and not sit again because "this game is important" was misinformed too. I'm not suggesting players didn't show up last night, only that some sat more than others. You guys played great, and beat us hands down. It's just a shame when we show up with 14 and everyone does their sits and the same isn't true on the other side.

Norm,
Look, I only disturb sh*t that needs disturbing.

Here’s the math. 13 players means 3 sits per inning. Times 7 innings equals 21 total sits.
That works out to 8 players sitting twice, and 5 players sitting once.
No one should sit 3 times before any other player has sat twice.
Thems the rules. But that’s not what happened.
In the 7th inning, a couple of your players sat out for a third time. "This game is important" echoed from your bench.

You know what happened, so does Remax, so do the umpires, and so do the players who sat (or, in one case, sat and then left!).

If the players have enough b__'s, they should bring it up to the executive so this won't happen again.

Keep in mind this is recreational slo-pitch. Some of you guys take this a little too seriously - that includes any team who would sit their poor players unjustly, as well as anybody who has enough time to write back and forth about it at the office. Time for lunch, and good luck in the playoffs boys.

“…so do the umpires”

Quoting Sgt. Schultz from Hogan’s Hero’s… “I know nuh-sing!”

As I told some players last night, it’s not the umpires’ job to keep track of the sits. For my part, I have enough trouble keeping track of HR’s, courtesy runners, how many outs there are, and whether the kid on the scoreboard knows the difference between Strike 1 and Ball 1. It is up to you to keep track of your own team, and it is up to the other guys to make sure that you do. From my point of view, this is a league made up of honorable guys. You don’t need involvement from the umpires... settle it yourselves, honorably.

Some of you know that I volunteer with the Unionville Minor Softball Assoc. At all house league levels, the coach of each team must provide written proof to show proper player rotation and sits before each game. It’s a little more complicated there because you have to make sure you rotate infielders, outfielders, pitchers and catchers (yep, even though little Johnny sucks, God forbid that he has to play right field the whole game!). It’s also done to make sure ultra-competitive coaching Moms and Dads don’t “cheat” the system and stack their lineups.

Please don’t make it come down to the same thing in the USPL.

Good luck to all,
Jim
