Hello everyone and welcome to Paoli Rams basketball 2008. I have decided to adopt this website as my own personal smorgasboard for Paoli Rams basketball. Throughout this season I will be keeping you all informed of anything and almost everything concerning the Paoli Rams basketball program as well as behind the scenes information that I can dig up. Keeping in mind that all the information shared on this website will be upfront and strictly non-personal. So grab a chair and pull up to the stove and get ready to hash out all of the details of exciting Paoli Rams basketball action.
We'll begin this season by taking questions from everyone so please be patient and I'll try to answer all of them as soon and as accurately as I can.

The Good Shepherd

I know what your thinking with this kind of a loaded question but you may in for a pleasant suprise this year. Even though graduation took a heavy toll on the Rams last season they still have one of the premier players back in Logan Laswell and one of the winningest coaches in Indiana basketball history in Joe Hinton. With Brandon Jones and Daniel Starr ready to assist Laswell in filling the void offensively and the "semi" weekened tallent pool in the area look for the Rams to finish as high as 2nd in the P.L.A.C. and an overall record of 13-7.

Great question Turkeyleg. As I've previously stated I believe no one can prepare a basketball team the way Joe Hinton can. Lack of experience or not he will have his team playing tough nosed in your face defense creating scoring from defensive turnovers as well as getting good shots for Laswell. Paoli should enjoy a season with 12-14 wins maybe even more.
Make sure your cousin is getting plenty of protein in his diet. Red meats, eggs, fish, milk and with all of the excersize he'll be getting and Mother Nature taking its course he should be ready to go. Good Luck.

Thanks GS I will tell my little cousin. He just gets sort of down in the dumps about being too skinny. He is tall but just needs to beef up. Also do you think you are maybe over estimating the ability of some of the players you mentioned? I have heard they are out of shape.

Not so sure about how you think you know so much about Paoli Basketball. Or basketball in general. Why are you giving advice on nutrition and stuff? What are your credentials? Not being a hater but just a little skeptical of you at this point. I am glad though we have someone who is taking such an interest in our B-ball team. Bout time.

"Out of shape!" "Are you kidding Me?" Not for a second do I believe Coach Hinton would allow his players to start practice overweight. I don't know the man personally but I've watched his teams since his Floyd central days and I can't ever recall him having an overweight team. Maybe an "occasional" player with 5 or 10 pounds but with Paoli's up and down the floor tempo it's just not going to happen.

It is about time someone give us different opinion of Ram basketball. What do you think will be the key to our season? Do you have any good inside information that you can give us?

I just heard that conditioning was suspect. They better be in shape if they are going to play up tempo. Will they be pressing all the time or just pressure the ball at mid court? I'm just sort of getting into this and want to know what to expect when I go to the games. Also, can they shoot the 3?

DJ, thank you for raising the "caution" flag on me so early. I'm glad you did. And your right about being skeptical. But as far as the nutritional question its just a matter of common sense not anything else. Don't EVER let anyone other than your Doctor prescribe anything stronger than steak and eggs to you or your loved ones. As far as taking an interest in Paoli basketball its been a long time coming. Yes we've had our share of success like the '99 team and the entire Seacat era but this community deserves a winner. I'm not going to get into who I am just yet. Its pointless. I'm "just" a fan with no credentials except I've had a couple assistant coaching jobs at the University of Indianapolis and Cental Michigan but I've been here off and on for several years. Of course with my spelling sometimes its hard to believe that I even attended college. But if you all would like I could always turn this site back over to Shizz.

So you have been a coach? Seems pretty big time so why aren't you coaching anymore?

You should at least be able to coach high school or something if you were some bigshot assistant.

Tell me this...who's the best player you have ever got to coach or coach against?

420somewhere, as I've stated just now, no I don't know the Coach personally, but I've seen him coach as far back as the Schellenberg boys and have been a big fan of his style for a long time. As far a "keys" to a successful season this year I think it will be how quickly our young team grows up. And how to get Lazwell as many good looks to the basket as possible with the opposition trying to key on him.

Dr.J, the reason I havent coached in a long time was for two reasons.
1. I wasn't very good at it. The game just got too fast for me and with all of the complexity of the defensive as well as offensive schemes I was just too Old-School to adjust.
2. I've had two back surgerys and my wife got tired of hearing me compain all of the time.
As far as being a know it all yeah your probably right.
I once coached against Carlos Boozer in high school. He drilled us for I "think" 38 points and 18 rebounds.

Don't be too impressed with my knowledge just yet. The season hasn't even began and I haven't stuck my foot in my mouth. As far as the tidbits I do know that Lazwell had talked to Anthony Winchester (we ALL remember him) from Austin about playing for his A.A.U. basketball team this past summer but decided to play elsewhere leaving Winchester very disappointed. Can't say I blame Logan though because they only had Winchesters younger brother (Tye) as well as 3 Brownstown Central kids in Taylor Wishmeier, Michael Lietzman and Spenser Allman. They also had a kid from Rock Creek Christian and a couple others but I can't think of their names.

I never said anything about "running" anything but I "will" be monitoring what is said on my website and try to keep the conversations to at least a PG rating. I never claimed to be a God, just a genius.
As far as the rest of the P.L.A.C., I already have an uneducated opinion on who I think will win the conference but I will have to do a little more research before making a prediction. Who does everyone else think will win the P.L.A.C. this year?

Please allow me to answer Shiz's question for him.
He has been in our community for most of his life having moved here from Rockville Illinois at the age of 3. Having played middle school sports such as football, basketball and track, his sports career took a halt because of a knee injury suffered in an 8th grade football game against West Washington. All throughtout school Shiz has had an interest in journalism and with his true passion being sports he has enjoyed the natural transition of sports writing here on these Paoli websites. Having made a name for himself in the community his respected sports writing has been a fixture throughout Ram country for a number of years. His insightful, yet sometimes, politically incorrect opinions have been an entertaining and colorful part of the rich history of Paoli Rams football and basketball for the past several seasons. Thank You.

I say with lookin at the players and the schedule The Rams have that they can easily win 15-18 games...they may not blow out every team they play it may be come down to a possesion or two for the win...the only thing of concern is with the amount of scoring Laswell will have to do and will it wear him out at the end of the season....

Wow! I haven't seen this much excitement on the site in forever, maybe longer. Don't know what's going on here but I like it. I have to agree with Shiz here. I think we could win in the mid to high teens this year. I also think we have a real good chance to win our Paoli Tournament on the 29th of this month. Orleans might be a problem though. What do you think about the Bulldogs Shiz? Can we beat them this year? Are you going to go to the tournament? I can't wait for this season to get started.

I think The Rams should be the favorites to win the Paoli Tourney...as far as Orleans from what I seen last season from their JV they may have a long season not only this year but for years to come...the other teams in the tourney will struggle early on which would give the rams the advantage...but you never know the way I see The Rams winning this year one bad game and anything can happen...

Hi Shiz. I guess we'd better make a confession here. Flower & I are co-workers and former classmates from Paoli "awhile" back, but we'll just leave it at that. Anyway we both read your posts all the time and get a big kick out of it. We've only went to 2 or 3 basketball games over the years (my sister has a son that played for Paoli) but always kept up with the teams through your postings. We actually took an office pool one time about some of your predictions! IT WAS CRAZY!!! But we all had a blast! We remember you from school and just thought it would be kind of neat to talk to you again. Flower will "KILL" me when she reads this post. Well, to make a long story short, I'll be wearing a white hat and I can't say for sure what Flower will be wearing but we both plan on going to the Paoli tournament this Saturday because there are kids playing on two of the teams that we want to go and cheer on.
Shiz, where will you be setting? Or can we meet you before the game (inside the gym) somewhere? Please don't misunderstand us. We are not looking for anything except a casual conversation with a literary "Legend"! And I mean that fondly. It's all in good fun.
