| -check a softball players rating-
You can check a softball players rating at this website. WSL uses this players list which is probably why the tourneys seem so evenly competitive. Check your teammates or some players names you know to see how it works. You may be surprised that some of the local players here are ranked pretty high and are often matched against company or rec teams. Looking at the ranking of other players you know will give some perspective on how tough it is to win at tournaments- even at the E/Rec levels. ASA uses this list too. Utrip should.......but I don't think they do.
It would be great for high desert softball to develop/use a list like this for league directors to use to structure the local leagues into a lower/middle/upper format that really helped even out the competition. When teams play teams that are a similar level, it is good for the sport, and the sport grows. Fun for all teams and players at any level.
Another alternative- require the roster to be submitted at the first game and make that first game a placement game. Count it in the standings, but allow for adjustments in the schedule and divisions to move some teams up a level or down a level that might be mismatched. The teams would take their first win up with them or there first loss down with them respectively if they are moved.
-Food for thought.

| FYI- Excerpted from So-Cal Softball site:
General Disclaimers
1.) Player Restrictions
The player list is not intended to prohibit any player from playing in a classification one step below his individual rating. The idea is to limit the total number of players playing below their classification that may be playing on a single team.
Furthermore, the player lists are intended to be used as a tool to identify those teams which attempt to reform, change their name, avoid their reclassification and attempt to play back down in their old classification. These teams will be more readily identified with the assistance of the various player lists and will hopefully be dealt with accordingly.
However, it is hoped that these lists will be used to restrict players from playing down more than one level without prior review and approval.
2). Player List Appeals
It is understood that certain players' ability levels may not be commensurate with the classification under which they will be originally listed. For example, role players or coaches/sponsors who may get their names put into a certain classification based solely upon their affiliation to a team that was successful.
There is no intention to keep such individuals unfairly classified or to restrict their opportunities to play.
3). Not a "cure-all"
It is understood that the player lists are not a "cure-all" to the issue of classification.
The associations retain the right to classify teams based on "the overall strength of the team both offensively and defensively" regardless of where the individual players on a team might appear on the player lists.
Certain players who may deserve to be listed might have fallen through the cracks and initially been omitted from these lists. As such oversights are discovered, players will be added to their appropriate classifications.
It is felt that the "A/Open" Player List and "B" Player List have identified 99% of the players who belong on such lists, while the "C" Player List have identified 95% of such players.
Further questions can be directed to the appropriate state directors of each association.

| How many of our players show up on that list? I couldn't find a Ray Fayloga or a John Covington, ...but I did find a Chad Coleman rookie card.

| lol. I saw that one. Players will have to have played in a sactioned tourney-WSL and ASA uses it. I don't know who else does. It must help some. Those WSL tourneys are always really evenly matched.
