| How does this work again? Am I typing? Oh, hello Unionville Softball!! Greetings from cold wintery Markham! Here's my season preview!
*all predictions are based on what I know from last season and what I've heard from people I know and trust within the league*
Bat of the year: Miken Psycho
Bat compant of the year: Worth
Team to watch: Harding
Predictions of final standings:
1.Harding - What weighs 225 lbs, bats left handed, and has one and a half sets of teeth? I think the Harding has the tools in place to run the table this season and be the first undefeated team ever (help me out if I am wrong)! Any team can be beaten, but it'll take some serious hitting and perfect defense to beat the Jays machine.
2. MAS – Norman has lost some great players over the years, but is still loaded, but knowing him he'll stock up on some ringers because he hates to lose.
3. Bisons’s - I hear they didn't lose anyone, so why wouldn't Johnny and his boys still be a top team?
4. Jake’s - I'm hearing good things in the rumor mill.
5. Grocer - A once great team lost no one and will be adding some good players in the draft. As long as they have a full healthy squad every week I don't see why they can't finish top 5.
6. Wild Wing - Same issue as Jakes. If Joyce can get the same good players to show up every week, they're a contender.
7. Remax - My championship buddies over at Remax may lose Fuji, but they learned last year how to win. They have a dynasty.
8. School- Nick and the young players he brings with him are just enough to make them the sleeper playoff team this year.
9. Plumbers - I'm hearing conflicting things about James's bunch. So I'm keeping them right where they were last year.
10. DST - They’ll steal some wins, but not enough heart to make a playoffs run.
11. Kelsey’s - Haven't heard a thing
12.Travel - They're a good group of guys from when I saw them play in fall ball. What a Cinderella run last year. Their defense is their Achilles’ heel. If they can improve on it, they'll surprise some teams.
13. Kavanagh - No one can argue they're getting better every season. They haven't added anyone that I know of, but they move up in the standings due to losses by other teams.
14. Crupi - They lost one of the best pitchers in the league, the heart of their team in Kent, and a bunch of young talented players. They're sinking.
15. Angus - Fun bunch of guys, but if they haven't made any pick ups, they don't move out of the cellar.
16. Arms - I heard they don't even have a team, so here they are.
Well that about does it. Good to be back. Can’t wait to get going in 2009.

There are many who subscribe to the belief that the world will end on December 31, 2012 as evidenced by the expiration of the Mayan calendar. So enjoy your last three years of existence people because 2012 is coming in a hurry.

But Remax found a way to swim out of the trap, and won the trophy as they have done seven times in the last nine years. This year with a revamped lineup the Travel men with ensure a championship ring is delivered.

| The big kick-off for 2009 is getting ever closer and I want to know who you think will win the USPL Champion. Remax have to be amongst the favorites, particularly having another excellent season last year. This squad is unyielding. Do you think they can hold onto their crown? Can they hoist the trophy for an eight time? The last three in the final four should be the School, Harding and Crupi. Or will the revamped complete Plumbing rise to claim back the trophy they won in 2007? Can Wild Wing, Grocer, Kelsey’s and Jakes bounce back to glory after they missed out last season? Can Angus, Bisons, DST, MAS, Crupi and Bistro finally mount a serious title challenge? How about Arms, Kavanagh, Griffith? Will the youngsters have grown up enough to be considered as serious contenders? Is there anyone outside the top four who you think can win? I think not.

| I really believe that predicting this season will be extremely difficult. With the introduction of the "Old Fart" division, teams will be adopting new strategies and lineups.
The competitive, but fun nature will remain similar. The level of athletism will increase a bit and the pace of each individual game should increase as well.
Harding Display, pending they can keep their heads together, should prevail. This team has been builing up for a few years now and almost made their mark this past season. Denure has also been spending his offseason in the gym, so should arrive with a six pack (not just in his hands), lol...
DST and The School will always be a challenge, but as controversial as ever (I think this adds character).
R/E Max... I'll believe their reign has ended, but they always seem to prove me wrong.
Plumbers... 3 guys have left who total approx. 175 years combined in age. Our draft picks will have a significant impact on our outcome. Either way, we went from worst to first in a single year and managed to win the whole thing one year after that. We're always a team to worry about. Paolo wouldn't have it any other way.
State Farm/Travel Lovers... Great Insurance Agent and an incredible Travel Agency. :)
This year will be as interesting (if not more) than the previous. One main thing I'm looking forward to is seeing Unionville Arms improve their record even more than last year.
Look forward to seeing you all in a month!

| People don't pay attention to the School — and why would you? — might look at the uninterrupted decade of great finishes (2nd in 2007 and, 8th place last year) and assume the team has been steadily, hopelessly terrible in the playoffs. The truth is far more humiliating. Year after year, there comes a moment at which the black shirts look up and down the standings, scan the bench and collectively decide that whatever combination of talent, enthusiasm, and guts it takes to get through 25 games, they don't have it, especially in the playoffs. So they stop trying.

| It goes w/o saying that no team in the league lost more in the offseason than did Travel Lovers. Maybe that fact alone will enable Remaxs’ fans to stop getting all worked up when they untuck their shirts after winning a game. We’ll see. Anyway, these are not the same Lovers we saw last year. They’ll have big time veteran issues and their leaders – will depart for the masters this season. Their offense will still be pretty good and they’ve got two good, young hitters in the lineup, but they will miss the great pitching they had last year.

| This past year of 2008 proved to be a successful one in the prognostications of the Amazing Kreskin. Early in the year, ten days into the season I made three predictions about the results of the season. Each proved to be correct. Arms would not win 6 games, Travel Lovers/State Farm would win 15 and Remax would take home the hardware again. Later on in the year, when the Super Bowl was about to be played, I was at the Arms 4 days before. My prediction was that the Pittsburg would win. I did not expect to give the score, but stated they would win by 4 points. The final score was 27 - 23. 2009 top 10 Plumbers Bisons Remax Harding DST Jakes Village Grocer Unionville Arms Kelsey's Kavanagh

| Enough talk, lets just point our the real facts. The survey asks who will be the most improved team this year? It is simple, how do you deem most improved? Is it as long as you win more games than last year or how many places you move up or do you go from the bottom to the top? However you look at it, as long as you improve from last season, that is a success. This year will be easy, Grocer. They choked last year because they were missing the Lamarre brothers ( no offence to the rest of the team but missing two of the leagues best players made a huge difference). Now Burton is available, there is their first pick and their second pick goes to Darrin Crawford. Three of the top players in the league and a guy who will definitely not hurt them. Improvement, damn right. More wins than last year, easy. Move up a place, for sure. Now will they exit the cellar, absolutely. Contend? We will see, that depends on how everyone else picks and improves. Grocer for most improved hands down! Now lets hope the other bottom teams can improve in the draft with no BS this year.

The Masters division will be christening their maiden season at 8:00 tonight. It's been a long winter and spring, but by Thursday night everyone will feel their age with some sore muscles. Judging on how things went in the draft the game of the week is on Tuesday evening at 6:30. I think the Remax guys have as much confidence as they can at this point and I would be surprised if they didn't play decently to start to season.
