Ok guys. The 08 season is over and in the history books. We've all seen almost every team twice. We know who can hit and who can't, we can easily just look at the "runs for" and "runs against" on the standings page. So let’s talk about an aspect of the game that's constantly overlooked. Defense. Who's the team that you got no easy runs against, that you could only get guys on base if you dropped in singles or hit homeruns. Who made you say "what do I have to do to get a hit on these guys?” My vote is for Bisons. What do you think?

Plumbers when everyone is healthy and in attendance has a mean D. One of the Whalens is probably the best outfielder in the league he robbed us at least three times.

The best gloves in our league will belong to the new and improved Unionville Arms. We will have a drastic different lineup in 09.

MAS hasnt had its players playing their correct positions all of last year. Most of the outfielders belong in the infield, but they are ballplayers. MAS will kick some A** in 2009.

Now comes some serious offseason retooling for us. The plumbers can’t simply bring everybody back and make another run at it because we have made some key decisions to go forward and climb back in the winning chair the year. We will win in the odd years 7 and 9.

It is time for some nice prognosticating, so I will pick the top four defenses teams for the upcoming year. I will also predict some of those other defenses that will be horrible (Arms, Kavanagh, Jakes). The supposedly above-average defenses (Plumbers, Travel, Kelsey’s, Bisons, and Harding) performed poorly last year. Do these same charts for past seasons, and you'll see much of the same. The point is this: It's extremely tough to gauge to predict the best defense's for a new year. There can be small or gigantic swings from season to season, with few constants, which makes a preseason list of defenses fraught with complications. If you do not want to seriously swung and miss put your money on Wild Wing, Crupi MAS and Remax.

I believe that Remax is the best all around defense in the uspl. I think they showed it the past couple of seasons. Do you agree with it?

• Look, guys: We didn't pick Remax to win it last year! (We still can’t figure out how they do it.) Yes, our flirtation with the might Harding continues we actually picked them to win it all at midseason last year. So here is a look at the top six.
1. Remax. They have the best pitching staff in the league, with potential for big power. We're scared.
2. DST. Everyone's concerned about the hitting, but we think that'll be fine we're far more concerned about that, ugh, outfield.
3. Travel Lovers. Seriously, they should just all go to the plus forty division now. Everyone will feel better.
4. Flakeboard. We think this might be the worst Bisons team of the last few years. We almost wanted to put them in the conny.
5. Crupi. Boy, they are challenged defensively.
6. .School. If we were more of a real man, we'd act on our hunch about this team. But we're not.
See? No Plumbers! No reverse jinx! Nope! Tell us what you think, if you're more of a man than we are. And you are.

Now let me be the first to say I don't always agree with some of the forum's explosions. But the softball smack page, which all sorts of people including teammates, friends and family, read is not a place to be making allegations about the pending season. What the hell MAS over Remax in the final because we have the best defense. We beat them last year in the playoffs.

Rremaxe is VERY over rated, i guess this season will show, but i think this exposure is ridiculous and there are many more teams that deserve it...

If you include the playoffs along with the regular season, I would have to say Remax is above the crowd.

Most teams are lazy or too drunk to pick up hot balls hit at them except for Angus.

Nothing like the old spring to give you some hope, but sadly if such sayings rang true, travel would have been USPL cup champions many years ago. I do think harding (very likely) much improved team chemistry and presumed team health will take a lot of pressure off their young defense, but that may not be enough. HD is the champs in 09.

Re/Max is very Overrated? 6 out of 8 yrs Champs!
I would say we are more lucky than overrated. To win in this league you have to have luck as well as skill. This year we will be loosing 2 of our key players. We will fall back quite a bit without these guys. Hopefully we will make the championship side this year and get "Lucky" again.

BTW who are you and what team do you play on?

Just asking

Dave

I just laugh at the posts which bash the Remax. Especially the "anonymous" so called players. You should be glad that according to Dave Remax may have lost some players because you know first hand what the outcome would once again be! Remax will battle through the season and when they do end up making it to the Championship Game that in it self will be a great effort...to win it all again seems unlikely but you can never underestimate the heart of a Champion and make no mistake, Remax ARE the reigning champs!
