| Instead of having a tournament between all teams on a weekend, why dont we just have all the rainouts play in one day? If we did do that, I would say just use the 3 fields that we use during the season. Have it be an all day affair, open the concession stand, make a few bucks for the league. I think it would be alot easier to get everyone to play. I know that we are already 4 games behind in our schedule, so I assume most teams have at least 3 also. The majority of our league plays in slo-pitch tourneys on saturdays, so I wouldnt see much of a problem. Maybe have it July 11th or 18th, and start the games at noon or later if there isnt too many games.
If a few teams cant do it, I say you get the teams that could do it and then you only would have to worry about a few teams making up games instead of 17 teams.
Team reps, feel free to respond to this

| Idea #1: Have a league tournament (sometime after roster deadline). League teams only and no pickups....just league rosters.
No payouts, no trophy, etc, to keep the cost as minimal as possible. Local umps should be happy to do it for cheap ($25 a game) since they will get multiple games over a weekend and there isnt many ways for them to make money anymore.
If you had 17 teams, thats 33 games (double elimination) so $50 a game for umps times 3 dozen balls = a little over $100 per team to enter the tournament.
the only cost I am not aware of is getting the HC fields and an umpire in chief (which could make at concessions).
Cheap entry fee should get all teams to participate. No excuses about not wanting to play certain teams.
Idea #2: To give the atmosphere of a tournament, pick a Saturday date in late July and designate it as "rain out Saturday" in which all rain outs are played. You start playing at 9:00am and spread out the games so that teams dont have to play back to back (unless you have to) to give ALL teams a chance to see each other play and visit (cookout, etc).

| Dewey, we are in the process of trying to put together a Saturday for the rain-outs as we speak. I think it will be fun.

| For this year? I love the idea but it will be hard to pull off when it wasnt already scheduled.

| no team is going to be forced to play any make ups on a sat if they don't want to. the option is just there for everyone.
