| Park district called me at 1:30 and said there was no way they could get their equipment on the field. 3rd base line on bottom field was not safe at all and top field was not in good shape. We got 1.5" of rain last night and no sun today.
If park district can't get fields in shape, we don't play. We're not risking someone getting hurt, bottom line.
If you're not ok with that, play in Carbondale in the fall league.

| Um thats a load of crap! They did not sink 4" in the mud like we where all told! THE FIELDS WHERE PERFECTLY PLAYABLE!!!!! We payed $500 something to play in this league, not Carbondale! So when are games get cancelled for no appearant reason you best believe people are going to be upset! We all love playin softball..so let us play Its not about our safety, we signed waivers at the beginnig of the year. .so let us play. .so I dont know if its your not paying your umpires or what but get this crap straightened out so we can play!
I love playing in this league but tired of all the bs. .this is 3xs this crap has happened and its not because of rain Dan!
And fischer id love to play in that tourney but cant get a team. .good luck with raising the money.

| The only way you could know they didnt sink 4" in the mud was if you were there when they tried or if you actually work for the park. You may work for the park but I really doubt it. And since you dont have the stones to leave your name then I guess we will never know. Its not like these guys are out there dragging the field with rakes, if that was the case then yes I would agree with you about not sinking in ther mud, but these guys are using heavy equipment that would tear up the field if they got out there when it was too wet, then you would be complaining about the field being tore up. The best thing i can tell you to do is call Mark at the park district and complain to him, I have a real good idea how far you will get with that, it would be even better if you went out there in person and told each of them that they were doing a lousy job because they didnt get the fields ready for you to play softball. Give me a break, its not like you wont have your game made up, you didnt loose 2 games, just wait another week.

| I know it sucks when a game gets rained out, but this is out of Dan's hands. The park distict works on the fields, so if anyone has any complaints, take it up with them. If you want to work on them, do it. What's wrong, got other shit to do? Well, I'm pretty sure Dan has a family and plenty of shit to do as well. It's an act of God not an act of Dan, even though they're pretty close, right Danno!haha

| First of all the fields were perfectly playable...i know this because i went out there and played on them yesterday...hell they were in better shape yesterday than they have been before...second 4 inches...really i jumped up and down and couldnt dig in 1 in with cleats on..and yes it is out of dans hands but when it doesnt rain all day and the games get called for rainout due to the park sayin the field is to bad...if I were runnin this thing (dan) then i would make the trip out there and see what the deal is...and yes all we do is have to make games up but some of us schedule around work and school and everything else to play on this day and hell at this rate by cancelling games when they were it was perfectly playable.. we will be playing into december time..and ya we could play in the c-dale league but we do pay close to 600 not to mention jerseys and balls and everything else to play in THIS league...and another thing..the umpires have been telling us that they have not been gettin paid and if that continues then they will stop coming!!! Is this actually the case that is going on dan? becuase im pretty sure that is in your hands or something you could at least take care of in order to have umpires (that we do pay for in league fees...not to mention the scorekeeper which doesnt keep very good stats) and ya i complain about the minor stuff...but thats only becuase we pay for it so it should be taken care of...if you want no complaints then stop making people pay for the stuff like c-dale does!!!! O ya and if you are worrid about our safety then why did we sign those waivers saying if we got hurt it was our own responsibilty...if thats not the case then what does our southern illinois softball insurance cover so that way next time i hurt my wrist or something i can tell the hospital that the southen illinois softball insurance is covering this one..i mean come on man were adults here...your not running a league for 10 year olds..pretty sure we can take care of ourselves...nuff said

| If I were Dan I'd tell all you complainers to F*ck Off... Damn I love to play too, and I look forward to it every week, its not worth putting up with all you cry baby assholes crying and making acusations all the time. I for one hope that someone continues to run this league, but with all you dumb asses making acusations and crying I'd be suprised if anyone wants to continue to put up with it. Then what, like I said already I look forward to and enjoy playing, but I don't have time to run the league... DO YOU!!??? I doubt it! Bottom line is be happy with what you have, cause if its gone next year or the year after you'll wish it was still around, I know I will... The games will go on and be rescheduled... I'm out... | Last time I'm explaining this. Pyramid Park is owned by the Marion Park District. 1) If they tell me that the fields aren't in good enough shape, then we're not having games. 2) If you think I'm gonna go ahead and have games after I was told they're not good enough and risk someone getting hurt, you're an absolute idiot and know nothing about risk and negligence. If that went over your head, then you shouldn't post your thoughts anyway. 3) The games haven't been cancelled "6x's and 3x's not because of rain". Turn your brain on. Why would John or I want to cancel league games? Do you realize how dumb that sounds? 4) I've only heard one umpire complain of pay and it's the same one that complains everywhere all the time. Marion Rec sends out the checks and we get the info to them on time. Every other umpire I've talked to is happy and has been happy with the Marion league in the 4 years I've been associated with it. 5) If you were runnin the league, it would suck. I think people would rather have me helping John run it than someone who hits 500 in the B league. What does that mean? I've forgotten more about softball than you've ever known. 6) Hopefully I'll get the chance to rain out each and every single Fratelli's/Bank of Herrin game for the next 2 years. That way I'll actually have something to do, like answering unintelligent posts on the internet. 7) If you think I'm a jerk by this post, good. I honestly don't care. Honestly.

| Who ever said heavy equipment on the fields. .they use four wheelers. .I was checking the fields around 11 wednesday and was sure that we would play. .then went back bout 5:30 when games where cancelled and saw 4 foot prints. .no tire marks no sinking in the mud. .NOTHING! then saw some guys practicing on it! I love playing the game. .but we have had 2 games cancelled for dumb reason. .1 of them cause no ump and one didn't count cause no score keeper. .then wednesday!. .Jerky?. .no Dan arrogant. .for no reason. .half of these guys are playing just to have fun. .no gives a crap bout how much you assumedly know!
Couldnt you go look @ the fields yourself when the park district told you we couldnt play. .common sense says we can since we had no rain that day!
Let us play when we have the chance. .we do to schedule around things. .cause we have a life to!

| You jumped up and down and couldnt dig 1" into the dirt with your cleats??? Hell, if you cant dig 1" into the ground with cleats on when it hasnt rained in month you have problems, not to mention after a couple inches of rain. What, where you standing on the concrete batters box? That has to be most scientific way I have ever heard of for determining soil properties. You missed your true calling my friend, you should have been an engineer or something.
In all seriousness though, just let it go, its over everyone knows your frustrated the games will be made up. Then you can start a new league next year somewhere and run it however you want to.
One more thing, if you dont like the way the stats are kept, then keep them yourself. Be glad they are kept the way they are otherwise you wouldnt be hitting 500.

| Dan...all I want to do is laugh at your last post!! Geez congratulations you can hit better than some people in a softball league!!! CLAP CLAP CLAP!!! Man that must be deserving of something.
Look, I have been playing in this league for about 2 years, and I think you have done a good job. There have been some bumps in the road here and there, but isn't there in almost anything? I don't think that you really had anything to do with the cancellations, because obviously the park district owns and takes care of the fields. Honestly though, were are usually lucky if the fields have been dragged on a good day, so I just don't understand how they can cancel due to the equipment not being able to get on the field. The field just simply did not even need anything done to it in order to play yesterday.
Yesterday is history, and there is nothing any of us can do besides make up the game at a later date. All of the bickering sucks because you get the end of it all Dan, but all we want to do is play. That's it. I just can't believe that this upset you so much that you resort to using softball stats to back up how you run a league. That is hilarious. That's like saying just because Barry Bonds hit the most home runs in the history of baseball that he should be the next commissioner of the MLB...get real.
Let's just forget about it, there's nothing any of us can do to change it. We just disagreed with the decision that was made. Does it really matter? No. Let's all let it go.

| Andy, sorry if I implied heavy equipment like dozers or trackhoes or the like. I meant heavy equipment in comparison to the weight of a person, thats all. I can understand why you would think my previous statement was exagerated. Sorry for the confusion. If you were out there at 11 and the fields were fine then you should go to the city for answers and to voice your complaints, it is thier responsibilty, Thet have city council meetings on mondays around 6 pm or you could probablyjust go to city hall, the mayor is usually there most of the day. I am sure he would be glad to hear your complaints about slow pitch softball.

| I Never said anything about being a good player. I agree with you, you dont need to be a good player to run a league but it helps to know something about it. Again, I am not sure what Dan meant by his statement, I only know what I understood it to mean. You obviously understood it a different way than I did, thats fine.

| This is for all you complainers i have played and been a part of the Marion softball league for several years when it was run by a guy named Mike Crow and then Don Baker and now Dan alot of the problems this year with paying the umps is not Dan or Johns fault our wonderful city said (like it was a surprise to them that there was a league ) we had to go through them for everything this all happened when Dan went to a meeting to get some work done on the feilds to make them better the city saw a way to make a few extra bucks by handling all of this and paying the umps instead of how it was done for years....Now on to the feild issue i believe it was about @ years ago the city park employees went union we had some rain but not alot and Dan and a couple other guys got together and went to the feilds to check on them for games that night and did some work on the one of the park guys saw this and filed a complaint and got 4 hours greivence pay for this we were told to stay off the feilds that was the parks job not ours if we had played the nights in question u would have bitched that the feilds were not done and chalked and we pay for that ...it sucks i know but it is out of the leagues hands....sorry about the rant

| No THill. But, the person who just occasionally plays has run this league for many years before me and it was definately different. Rain outs weren't made up, infield conditions weren't improved with turface, outfields weren't reseeded, astroturf with concrete underneath it wasn't put down for batters boxes, website with statistics and standings was not kept, scoreboards were not installed at the fields, you didn't hit your own ball (you got ONE new ball to hit for every double header if you were lucky), etc....
My point is that guys who just play recreational ball wouldn't have put the time and effort into 10% of that stuff.
Andy, if you didn't have a scorekeeper, that game still counted. We didn't even use any all last fall league. Also, could I have went to the fields if I had even wanted to? No. I was down in Vienna from 10:30 until about 4:30 pm. I got the call from Marc Evans about 1:15 or so. But NONE OF THAT MATTERS.
Last time. If the park district calls me and says that they can't get the fields in shape, I am not EVER going to make the call to have league that night. If you are unable to see why, them I am sorry.
Also, anyone that wants to help John run the league in my place, step up and do it. You volunteer 5-8 hours of your week dealing with stuff and during signups and the start of the season, I average a lot more than that for a couple weeks. Get involved. This is a league that is ran by volunteers who do this for you. Solely for you. We get absolutely nothing from this except for crap like this. People in the past were paid, we are not.

Even if the field was good enough, IT'S NOT DAN'S FAULT! I personaly love the crybabies who choose not to leave their names. What are you afraid of? Quit your bitchin' or play somewhere else!!!

| Thanks guys.
Little FYI about the umpire "not getting paid". He called Dennis Blankenship saying we owed XX amount of money. Dennis referred him to John Abney. John and this umpire both got out their books and once everything was clear, the umpire realized that "oh, I must have made a mistake". This person was paid for what they worked, but apparently didn't know how many games he had worked. Just FYI before you believe everything you're told.

I just wish I was an admin so I could see the i.p. address of the loser who posted it and send him a "Thank you" card. lol - anyway "ditto" on the good work dan and keep those ridiculous posts coming!!!
