Excuse me - that was Pub vs Lakers: Pub 1-0

Funny you would think I was at the yard until 2am for a 14 inning game last night!

Riverview Round One:

SLP 7 Richfield 0
Tonka 5 Northwest 0
Edina 5 Bandits 1

Update/personal take......

Tonka is heating up and I would not be able to argue with anyone that they do not have the best pitching staff although "the deepest" may be up for debate. I still think Edina has the deepest staff (young staff) of any club out there.

Park is dinged up at position players and pitchers. Game two against Richfield is bigger for Park then game one because pitching may come into question should a game three need to be played.

Edina....Im not changing my stance on them and unless they pucker up in the tourney which they should not do becuase they have absolutely nothing to loose.

Unless they pucker they are going to show some teams outside the Riverview soon enough what an entire staff of 85+ can do against wood bats and teams who are not use to seeing that very often.

Park wins game two
Tonka wins game two
Edina wins game two for an uneventful Riverview final round.

No way Tonka or Park lose game 2. Edina could but will win game 3. Whoever plays Edina game 1 of the state tourney will be in for a surprise.

Rumor has it that lefty has an elbow issue and Auburn doesn't want the youngster throwing right now.

I heard that it was the Tampa Rays that are holding him back. They do not want him to throw until he is fully recovored. Anyway they still have at least two other Div 1 arms throwing on their squad.

How do they have all these Division 1 pitchers, but only went 9-7 in league?

Young DI arms who think throwing hard in amatuer in particular the Riverview normally end up with some learning lessons prior to their fall ball seasons at college.

I obviously know what I am talking about when it comes to throwing hard or rather not throwing hard.

Sometimes hard is easier to hit then a guy who knows how to pitch.

I vaguely remember what it is like to throw hard but what I do remember about those days is knowing nothing about changing the eye levels of the hitter, hitting spots and what not.

Young pitchers don't need to rely on their mind especially if they are good and even more especially if they are going onto to DI from high school or DMAC.........rest assured any young hurler who goes onto to play DI from whatever level will learn how to locate, they will learn in/out and up down and if they don't already have one they will certainly be taught a change up.

If they already have a change up they will learn a better one or to get better with the one they have.

In closing Edina's league record is a testament to two things in my opinion.

#1 The Riverview regardless of what others think is a very, very tough league

#2 Young teams find ways to loose games

#3 Regardless of anyones view point on the riverview and whether anyone believes it or not I would say off the top of my head that there are no less 25 pithcers perhaps upwards of 30-35 plus pitchers in the Riverview who throw 84-86

Therefore teams are use to it throughout the league and again just because you throw hard does not always equate to success.

Why would Edina not throw their best in playoffs?? What are they saving them for?

It's too bad for Edina that you have a solid pitcher all season long, only to have outside influences shut him down. I for one, would of loved to see Cole Nelson pitch at State. He would of showed everyone else, what the Riverview league had to deal with all summer. If I were an Edina player I would of been glad to have him this summer, but a little upset to get so close and not be able to use him. Good luck next year.

From what I heard Edina lost their SS and catcher to collegiate leagues as well as perhaps two of their other top five players or so.

Just the same........good work for the Bandits.

They have a couple guys to offer up on the bump

I believe Flare Man was being sarcastic, referring to my previous post about them "guaranteed not to lose game two". But, I am eating my words, and it just goes to show you that anything can happen.

Boy, this has got to be the first time, maybe ever, that a Bloomington team not named the Bulldogs are going to state. Good luck to them, as they are a bunch of really good kids, and are managed by a really good guy. I'm glad to see them going, and hope they do well, although they will have a very tough game 2 if they beat stillwater, in playing the Shamrocks.
