| It was another wild night at the speedway Tuesday night, with three different drivers taking the three races. In the first heat, Davey Zaminski blasted through the nine-car field. Starting from row two, Zaminski nosed under front row starter Ryan Long and bolted to the front, much like Larry bolted to the jiffy john last week. Scott Meckley drove from the rear all the way to second, but he didn’t have anything for the Z-man, who motored the Bermudian Springs HS Cafeteria/Yuengling Lager sponsored number 19 to the dominating victory. “Everybody knows Tuesday is Chicken Patty Day, but tonight was Patty Zaminski night,” said Zaminski in victory lane, whatever that means. After the race, rookie driver Long complained about being struck by debris. Hey rookie, if you can’t run with the big dogs stay on the porch!
Heat number two saw Jeremiah “Leadfoot” Gillin become the first two-time winner of the season by leading from wire to wire. Micah Aumen hung with Gillin for a lap or two, but once the Neiderer Sanitation/Busch Light number 10 got into clean air it was all she wrote as Gillin lapped the entire field. Gillin, surprisingly, was not in much of a celebratory mood after his win. “We had one goal in mind tonight, and that was to put Micah in the wall,” Gillin said. “Bottom line, we didn’t get her done. I let my fans down, and I feel like an embarrassment to the entire motor sports community.”
The main event had lots of fireworks. Aumen, Larry Baumgardner, and Aaron Long diced in the early laps, with Aumen eventually passing Baumgardner to grab the lead. Meanwhile, Scotty Meck once again battled through the field from his ninth-place starting spot and reeled in Aumen. Meckley was content to follow as Aumen hugged the inside guardrail lap after lap, but the pressure finally got to Aumen and he bobbled in the middle of turns 3 and 4. Just as Meckley squeezed by a spinning Aumen on the inside, Micah “The Bearded Clam” Fleming passed everybody on the high side. Fleming held the lead for a brief moment, but Meckley had the inside line heading into 1 and 2 and staved off the brazen youngster. Meckley appeared to be cruising to the win, but he drifted high in turn three with three laps to go and from out of nowhere came Jordan Arnold, who nudged his way past on the low side. Arnold pulled away in the black and silver Dikfur Bat Company/Excitement Video number 4 and won convincingly with Meckley second and Fleming third. “Single-handedly winning the first-round playoff series for the Twins last week was okay I guess, but this was easily my biggest thrill in sports, ever,” said Arnold as his crew showered him after the win. Meckley was disconsolate after settling for the runner-up spot for the second time. “Like Ricky Bobby said, second is just the first loser,” he said. Reports are Meckley didn’t sleep at all Tuesday night and couldn’t concentrate at work all day Wednesday. Fleming put his performance in perspective as he was quoted as saying, “Third ain’t so bad. It’s better than where Brushtown finished.”
