As a long tendered player in the USPL I am astonished by what this league has become. Certain teams and they are in the minority (we all know who they are) feel the need to shout out descriptions of the pitch while their opponent is hitting. These comments are usually made by the catcher or the first baseman. This has to STOP. It is ok to applaud and show your appreciation for a good play or hit to your teammates. These so call gentlemen speak only to the opposition while they are trying to hit. Some also continuously chastise the pitcher or fielder while the game is live. If I am going to make a play I do not want to hear “that is through him, he will not make a good throw” etc. The pitchers do not want to hear “Get it up or that was high”. Is their a rule against this unsportsmanlike behavior?

Earlier this season, my team seemed surprised to discover that our league would tolerate such raunchy behavior on the field by veterans to their impressionable teammates. This negative babble or, more to the point, the outrage the debacle inspired, prompted more than a few of my fellow players to wonder if we could even shake their hands after the games.
There is no reason to reprise the particulars of the now-famous controversy, except to observe that were it not for a single outrageous incident, other teams would not accept this as normal and start acting in the same manner. I say we give a warning and then an ejection if this uncouth and boorish chirping continues.

In a game, are fielders allowed to yell mid pitch, stuff like "there it is" "swing" ..... also, are runners/bench ppl allowed to yell when a fielder is about to make a catch on a popup/flyball?

The answer to your question is no, under the category of unsportsmanlike conduct. Take the extreme for this example. The team on the field is screaming loudly when the hitter is about to take a swing. If it's obvious the intent is to throw off the hitter, yes, it's unsportsmanlike and should not be condoned.

What is the protocol, in regards to releasing the air from an opposition's car tire?

Interference is the act of an offensive player impeding the ability of a defensive player to make a play or a defensive player impeding the ability of an offensive player hitting the ball. It can be physical or vocal. It is unsportsmanlike and as the umpire should put an end to it.

I can`t believe what I`m reading! Go to the SPO / SPN /NSA websites and look up the rules!!!!!

Making positive comments directed at your own team / player is perfectly legal. Telling your pitcher that it`s a great pitch mid way is acceptable. Yelling "swing batter" is NOT. You can make as many comments as possible as long as they are positive in nature and directed at your own team....

Yelling at opponents is not acceptable or condoned. You can yak as much as you want. It`s part of the game and always will be. The umpires have done a great job and this is one of the best leagues in Ontario for sportsmanship.

Lighten up boys!

Widds I could not agree with you more! Can't tell you how many times I've been yelled at "Never know!" when I've tried to throw the ball in the infield. The Umpires are doing a great job! Lighten up and Play Ball!!!! We have a great league and the playoffs are going to be great!

Gimme,
No one is getting irritable I just wanted to curtail this inappropriate behavior. I believe that only three teams in this league act this way. They should be aware that this will not be tolerated. Screaming when someone is about to swing is not suitable for anyone.

I have a feeling you guys are talking about the Arms as one of these 3 teams. I have made sure that our team will never yell in the back swing of any opposing team. As for yelling “it’s in there” or “It’s trouble” I believe that is part of the game. It’s not meant to throw off the player going for the ball. It’s to make sure that everyone on our team is aware it might drop. As all you know the Arms have a lot of young players, some of our players need a vocal third and first base coach to help them through the base paths. In no way by yelling are we trying to throw off the other team.

Thanks you MR. Bowen that is honorable of you. I appreciate your comments.

That is one team that admits that they will be curbing their screaming. How about the other two? Will they step up here or will they do their screaming on the field? It may be hard for them to come forward and gus it with the rest of the league.

I sure hope you little kids that live with your parents bring your folks out to watch the Arms go down in the playoffs. It’s only natural to be scared, but don't worry we'll take it easy on you.

The most intriguing thing about this weekend is how certain teams will behave. Can they be quite, play hard and respect the opponent? Time will tell. Good Luck All.

All the teams (from what I understand) behaved in a professional manner. Way to be mature boys.

The unfortunate thing about any recreational sport is there's always going to be a clash between those who are having fun simply by playing and those who need to win to have fun. What's worse is when there's a clash within a team over that issue. While I’m 100% sure everyone in this league is here to have a good time, some require different terms to have that fun.
