I can't make it. We are moving down to the cities that day. Sorry guys. Status is still "doubtful" for next year but things could change by spring.

There is no St. Cloud tournament this year so that weekend is open for something different.

This is a summary of the team meeting held November 28th…

Financial:

- We voted unanimously 8-0 to collect team dues beginning with the 2010 season from players. The dues will be $50 and will need to be paid by the first game. Players cannot play until their dues are paid in full. The money raised through the dues would go to help cover tournament fees, hotel expenses when playing on the road, miscellaneous field expenses, equipment, etc. We will try this for this season and see how it goes but I think in the long run this is something that will help the team operate and help get ahead of having to watch proceeds from the golf tourney and concession stand dwindle. I only wish we would have began this when I started and then maybe by now we could have tackled some bigger issues like the fence at Matt Leritz Stadium.

- We started a list of potential businesses that maybe interested in purchasing a sign for the outfield wall. We came up with eight businesses which I will not list here. If anyone that did not make the meeting has a business they would like to add to this list feel free to contact me and I will add them. By February I plan on sending out information to these businesses and hopefully we can add a few more signs to our wall.

Scheduling:

- We discussed the schedule for next season. No real solid decisions or votes were taken because it is still early for scheduling exhibitions next season and Mike informed us that the league schedule will likely not be out until March. This was more or less a chance for those in attendance to mention who they might like to play for an exhibition or potential tournament. A vote was taken to replace Wolf Lake with Nimrod for the annual game to be played in Menahga the Friday night of Menahga Midsummer Days. Wolf Lake would have had to give up its home game with us to play there this season and instead we will play them as part of their tourney most likely and means the ‘Pack gets to travel to Midway for the first time since 2008. Also mentioned and agreed on was the ‘Birds will play in Midway in June.

- Tournaments: We did take a vote and it passed unanimously to go back to the Wahpeton Border Battle. This is dependent on them inviting us back of course and going by previous years tourneys the tentative dates for this year’s tourney would be June 26-27. We also voted unanimously to be a part of Wolf Lake’s tournament. Boone had mentioned possibly expanding the tourney so we will need to contact him for more details but most likely our league game with the ‘Pack would again be a part of the tournament. Boss informed me that St. Cloud is scrapping their tourney (finally waved the white flag to the rain). In place of that weekend, first weekend in June, we are trying to get info on a few others namely Bemidji to see the teams involved and decide whether we would be interested in going or maybe try and get some exhibitions in Midway instead.

- Exhibitions: We created a list of potential exhibition opponents for 2010 with an eye on getting teams to come to Midway. First there are the teams we have played annually for some time, including Dent and Detroit Lakes who would have to come to Midway/Menahga and Bemidji and Wadena-DC in which they would likely expect us to travel to play them. Other teams to make the list of potential opponents: Brandon (they mentioned in August an interest in coming to Midway), Vergas, Kimball, Pearl Lake, Lake Henry, Lastrup and Maple Lake. The more southern teams on this list are less likely to travel but do have connections to various players on our team. If anyone not in attendance has a team or teams they would like us to contact for a possible game please contact me ASAP.

Field:

- We will not pay anyone to take care of the field next season. That means we will take more responsibility in mowing and dragging the field which should be done at least once a week regardless of whether we are playing there or not. Honestly the game last Summer vs. Sebeka should have been moved or cancelled because our field was in no shape to play because it was not taken care of for a month which is ridiculous. This will begin as soon we can get out there in the Spring of 2010 right through the first snow in Fall 2010. I hate to see the effort that was put in last Spring go to waste and have the field go to complete shambles like it did this past September, so that means we need to take care of it even after our last home game. We need to take more pride in where we play, plain and simple.

Apparel:

- We discussed some apparel and uniform items. We voted to get a quote on Nike hats for next year. The vote was to just get a quote and not to order hats. Once I get the info we can then vote on whether to go with Nike or stick with what we have. If we do go with Nike we will probably make an order just for players initially and if enough fans are interested then possibly make an order for them. We also voted unanimously to go with the all blue hats for next season. We can make adjustments to that and if we do I will let people know in advance. For those interested in getting in on an order for uniform pants, the order will go out in March and you will have to pay out of pocket. We are going to order the Rawlings pro flare white pants with no piping, in case a person wants to order themselves. Fleece tops will also be ordered. I put Cub and Shroomy in charge of choosing the style of fleece they want since they were most vocal about getting them. Once they have decided we will order them up and have the embroidery done locally since there won’t be enough for a team order and these will most likely be a player’s only item. We also voted on getting knit (stocking) hats and sweatpants for this winter. I will try to get a hold of Eino and Todd Fuller at Coach’s Choice in Fargo to see what kind of designs and styles they have and then e-mail you and we can decide what to get. T-shirts were also mentioned and we voted to hold off on any new t’s until the spring.

I know there were reasons for many to not make it to the meeting, and having eight there was not the worst showing but I still would like to see more of you in attendance. It’s not only a good reason to get together and make decisions on the upcoming season but also a good excuse to get the boys together for a good time. I’m looking at late February or early March for the next meeting and I will let all of you know in plenty of time in order for you to be there.

Nice work on the update skip, good detail.

As Puck said, if anybody wants to play certain teams we need to know within the next couple months. We will try to request days or weekends off form the L&P schedule, but that is not guaranteed. Once a L&P meeting is scheduled, we will let everybody know. Puck and or I will be attending those meetings and will give updates of information that needs to be relayed.

Taking care of the field needs to be a team effort, just like everything else. Tony, thank you for your efforts last year but we all need to do it together for the team. The field needs to be mowed once a week and dragged once a week and before & after games. Any expenses incurred while working on the field, mowing & dragging, fence work, etc. will be compensated for. We just need people to donate their time. For those who aren't around during the week, we can all help out before and after games.

I just want to add a bit about the importance of being a team and being together. Midway has been built on family and close friends. Anybody who is playing for us, or wants to play for us, has to earn their right to be part of the team. If you are playing, or if somebody wants to play for Midway, you will be a team player and will not argue any decisions or choices made by the team. Any issues can be discussed within, but there is no room for anybody who does not go along with the team's decisions or style of play. We need everybody "on the same page" to give us the best chance of winning.
We have 136 days until the 2010 season opener. I know people are already fired up, and that's how it should be. Enjoy the winter, get excited for the summer.

Coach, in order for me to make the next team meeting, I will need to know at least 1 month in advance (if possible) in order for me to get a 'time off request' in to my superiors. Also, if you already said this, I missed it, but are we ordering any hoodies with the other apparel this year? I would like another.

Good posts guys. To play on and keep a team competitive and a contender it takes a commitment from everyone.

There are plenty of good ballplayers on our roster and everyone always plays a role throughout the year.

Don't forget about the younger guys like Sean, Brandon, and Alex as they are the future. Also with Taylor, Stetson, and Bobby coming up young players need to know it is not easy to make it into the lineup but the manager will use the talent as necessary to win games and develop for the future.

We have a problem that most teams don't in our area: A surplus of players that are capable of starting and playing well, both offensively and defensively. A decision needs to be made whether or not we contine to travel and play good competition and truly make our team as good as we can with what we have or to "just have fun". There is a mix in there that we have had the past 5 years or so that is pretty good and I would say most want to win. After all, baseball is a lot more fun when you are winning.

Keep up the good work Puck!
