Young arms, what are you talking about? For the first time in many years they made the big boy round of the playoffs, they played like Crupi four-and-done. The offense was OK, but defense got shelled all season long.

Armsun,
Thank you for your brainless observation. Not one "no it all" has taken time to mention the 2009 winner to be The Harding Display Boys. The entire season has been watching the finest collection of solid players who go to work when it is needed. A little Luck doesn't hurt, but when you have the finest leader in the league running the ship, amazing things happen. Keep your eye on The Boys and you will see the winners. Thank God everyone remains healthy and ready to perform. Quality humans always come to the top and these guys are. BACK to BACK.

OK, so after furiously throwing out some predictions last year, I was conspicuously absent for a long time. But it is that time again, so in the next couple of weeks, I will be furiously churning out a whole new bigger and better set of predictions. You will be surprised with my predictions.

It’s hard to make predictions when it comes to our beer league. Anything can happen. Players get hurt, hitters have protracted slumps, journeyman players have unexpected career years, and former star pitchers suddenly can’t find the plate. Anything can happen. So predictions are very dangerous but they are also a lot of fun. Here are some educated guesses about what is going to happen during the 2010 Season.

Crupi- Despite having to fight off the Harding every year, the law men always end up in the top 5 teams for the last 6 years running. Recently, however, their post-season play has not matched their regular season dominance and this trend will continue.

Remax- Last season, they fell to ninth place from first in 2008. In the first of a series of reactionary moves, they got rid of two great players their replacement may be the real deal. With valuable experienced gained last year the realtors will be back in the top 4 this year.

Village Grocer- is loaded. Not financially, of course. This is the team that has operated without their superstar leader in 2008. The result? Last place, but in 09 they created a powerful green machine. They will make lots of noise this year and may capture the division crown but need to get better pitching.

DST- Has great outfielders, a solid offense, a good infield, and above-par power. In the USPL, that adds up to a possible division champion.

Ed Vision -This team is built on pitching and power hitters. They dominated most teams last year with that combination. One can only wonder how effective they can be this year. On the other hand, they must improve a very weak infield to advance in the playoffs. Some of their older players seem to be improving with age.

TL- Boy, everybody expected more from this team in 09. They seem to lack leadership and never had a legitimate shot in many games. They are a little short on defense, but their offense will help them stay in some games. Most games they played like the old putrid TL of years gone by.

School- This team was loaded with talent and should have gone deep into the 2009 playoffs. Instead they finished early on Sunday morning. They will do the same thing this year. Too much internal bickering and a weak infield defense will continue to haunt them.

Plumbing- The 2010 plumbers will be much weaker than the 2009 team. The losses of key players will put a lot of pressure on the existing ones to fill in the gaps. They only have one outfielder who makes plays and lack team character. Another pathetic year is guaranteed.

Arms- Last season, the Arms’ offense ranked fourth in runs scored and fourth in runs given up. With their speed and their power, expect the Unionville Arms to lead the league in both categories and win the big trophy in 2010.

I came to the conclusion that Gopher enjoy the spelling of my name and welcome me to a debate, lol. I have been quiet since Harding’s close pathetic win if you notice. I’m not discouraged or frustrated I knew what I sign up for when I join the School. Weak infield, now that's not funny, no argument and I thought I it was disrespectful. Hey Gopher, I don't know what team you play for, but since you barely know how to predict, you should come and watch us play next year. We will be playing in September in the afternoon and then celebrating.

Now thats the spirit of the whole thing right there MBA 89, take the ball busting like a man. You're a really good guy and you're building a pretty decent little team...I respect that! I'm not mad at you nor is the ball busting meant to be literal...it's just friendly ball busting. It's sort of like making a bet that the other team has to wear a dress after a loss or buy the beer for the other team. In addition it is great for the readers of this website, gives everyone something to talk about. Nothing more! Good luck, see you in the spring.

I applaud MBA98 for apparently researching the conflict in a little more detail and making an appropriate SMACK retraction. I think Griffith is no longer the sleeper pick. With a legitimate stud pitcher in the infield and a potential superstar in the outfield they will win many games. Their depth could very well dethrone the mighty Harding in 2010, but they must get a big bopper, like Ed Vision has. The power team (Ed’s) seems to get a good run and die in September like Crupi. I'm not entirely sold on TL, they seem irritated all the time. The Arms may possibly get off to a good start next year and take off again but we all know they have booked their spot in the tent on Sunday. As for dst, I think they are is a bit overrated but will still contend next year.

Griffer, who are you? I recommend, if you are on the Griffith squad, to take it easy on hyping up a team that didn't finish in the top 8. As a departing member of Griffith, I'm sure the guys on the team would agree as well. They are a great group of guys who are out to have fun, and are likely the most humble team in the league! Let's leave the trash talking to game days champ.

Hey Squid, it's slo-pitch, any team can put together a string of good games and come out on top, it's about doing it at the right time. Especially when they can draft a couple of players to fill the hole. Defense has never been our problem, our bats have not been consistent throughout the lineup. It's terrible when you lead off an inning with a triple and you can't cash him with your number 3,4,5 hitters. The issue will be fixed this year.
Looking forward to the start of the season. Good luck boys...

I had a chat a few nights ago with one of the teams that will be drafting in the top 10. He made it clear that the team was looking for players who could step in quickly and add value to the team's results this year.
"If you take a guy who can't play, then you've compounded the problem, then you've got ten who can't play," he said.
But how much progress can his team make this season? I would say probably not enough to make the playoffs, especially if they don't get better production out of their bats. He was realistic in his assessment that most of his picks will plug all the gaps.
In the draft, you can only take one (player) each pick and they are in a position where they need about three, but they will take one at a time.
What he needs to fully recognize is the state of the team and being committed to making the changes necessary to bring a winning attitude back to USPL.

The team that will win the big trophy is the one that uses solid defenders. Ones who can catch a fly ball and cover some ground in the OF and infielders who can make an accurate throw to 1B over 90% of the time. That is why the Arms wrapped around the cup this year will come from Unionville.

Actually Squid there is a tiny problem with your line of thinking.

While it may be true that slo-pitch is predominantly thought of as being more of a old man oriented sport, and it also may be true that some of us are fat has beens from Unionville, the problem is that you ARE in fact actually taking the time to log on to a website dedicated to us as players and thus the question becomes...what kind of pathetic loser would log on to such a website and write that a team has no ability?

How bad has your life degenerated where you have nothing better to do with YOUR time other than to monitor what good teams do? Either that or you are in fact a toothless freak who just likes to stir crap up, which is actually my guess.
