The Miggle action was fun last month and needless to say, my retrun to playing in that event was a mixed bag of fun and disappointment. I will come back and play again, but this blog is not about that. Nor is it about my home league, BEFL (Beltsville EFL). This is about the NEFL – Super league based out of Philly. It is by far the largest league I have played in in my many years in the hobby.
This will be my 3rd season in the league. I am looking to grab my first title here. But the road to the title is filled with many hurdles, as most seasons go, to make it.

NEFL features 32 coaches so the season takes on a “feel” like the NFL. With so many excellent coaches, winning this league title is tough.

Since this is a X & O section, I will only give some breif things you can expect from the coaches of these teams as I preview the 2010 NEFL Season.

Let’s get started…. I will start with the each division and list them by what I am expecting (order of finish)

AFC East

Dolphins – Coach Adrian Baxter * - New to the NEFL, this coach brings lots of gamesmanship and experienced to this division. Stong passing game and extremly fast on defense, look for the Dolphins to steal the division crown.

Jets – Coach Morgan Scott ** – Coach Moe moves over to the Jets after being fired by the Raiders. He brings a strong running game and Tough defense to the once lowly Jets. Having played in the league will make his adjustment to the AFC East easier, but can they defeat the Dolphins??

Patriots – Coach Jerry Fulton – Coach Jerry has owned this division for some time, but will be really challenged to just make .500 in the division. Lots of passing and good 3-4 defense – can it be enough to hold on to the division crown??

Bills – Coach Kern Robinson – Coach Kern has been in the league a long time and yet to reach the Playoffs. They have been on a free agent signing campain to get the talent to matchup with the new coaches that have invaded the division. Can they get some upsets and turn around the franchise??

NFC EAST

Cowboys – Coach Al Harvey – This team has been on the best franchise in the NEFL history! Coach Al has been to the top of the mountain and is always a tough out. They feature good passing game and a smothering defense that makes them a favorit in the NFC.

Giants – Coach Joe Greco – This team has been snake-bitten in the playoffs the last 2 seasons. One of the best passing teams in the league, the Giants are looking to make some magic in the playoffs. Can they defeat the Cowboys to win the division??

Eagles – Coach Robert Chalmers* – Another new coach to the NEFL. Coach Robert brings a power running game with speed rushers on defense. His teams are not going to be pushed around, so bring your lunch pale to games with this young coach. His coaching skills are passed down from one of the true legends of the Hobby…that happens to coach the Bears and is the defending NEFL Champ – but that is another story.

Redskins – Coach Ty Ware – This team has been much malined over the years. Coach Ty is looking to knock off any one of these coaches that looks past the Redskins. Team features some good running, but can they find a passing game to take the pressure off of likes of Riggins, L.Brown and a host of others. This team also needs to patch and develop their passing defense for this division.

Well, here is the next installment of the NEFL Preview of the 2010 season. One thing I forgot in the introduction, we will be using the 2007 NFL season schedule for our league. You can find that schedule on NFL.com site if you want to follow or just see some of the matchups for the season.

AFC NORTH

Ravens – Coach Glenn Phoenix – Ravens are one the most experieced teams in the NEFL, having played in and won Championship. Coach Glenn will toss the ball all over the yard if you let him. The Ravens’ defense is fast and plays hard. 60 minutes of football with this team.

Bengals – Coach Norris McGraw – Another of the league’s most experienced coaches of this style. Power running and tough defense is the staple of the Bengals. It has been a long time since they won the title but are coming back to cause some havac.

Browns – Coach George Diamond* – Another heavy-hitter to cause the AFC to be the toughest of the 2 conferences. Coach Rip will employ a strong and fast team to complete in this division. An unkown in this league, but not around the counrty.

Steelers – Coach Ernie Grice – Once was the Mighty Steelers team, is now just a shell of themselves in the NEFL. One time Champion, Coach Ernie has plans to return to the top of the division as well as the top of the league. Featuring their version of the 3-4 pressure defense and a passing attack on offense they are hoping to get some coaches nappin’ when the Steelers come to town.

NFC NORTH

Bears – Coach Big Keith Chalmers – The defending Champion, Coach Keith is always a team that you have to get past to make the title game. One of the true legends of the game, has both of his sons coaching in the league. This team will mix it up with you. Teams are always fast and have playmakers all over the field. Still the team to beat.

Packers – Coach Andrew Stewart - This is one of the better teams in the league, but do to some crazy actions from Coach Andrew causes this team to lose the close games. If Coach can keep his mental game on the field and focus on the task at hand, they could have a breakthrough season.

Vikings – Coach Edward Scott – One of the oldest coaches in the hobby and of this league, Coach Ed has a tough road in thias division. Featuring a power running game, Vikings will need to develop the passing game to upend the two top teams.

Buccaneers – Coach Greg King - In a move to improve the NFC South, the Lions and Buccaneers have swithed divisions. Coach Greg has his work cut out for him. In what could be the toughest division in the league, he will need all the team speed just tHere in installment part 3, I will take a preview look at the NEFL West divisions, also known as the Wild, wild west.

AFC WEST

Chargers – Coach Tom Johnson - Defending 2 time AFC Champion, Coach Tom has a team that can win anywhere. Chargers feature the “LT Train” as in L.Thomlinson. One of the best RB in the league who has broken many defenses down. They also have playmakers all over the defense that only gets better as the season goes long. Can anyone in the AFC keep the Chargers out of the title game??

Chiefs – Coach Harold King - One of the founders of the league, Coach Harold has not sniffed the playoffs in some time, but this season they are on a mission to return to the top. This division has been owned by the Chargers resently, but Chiefs are looking to take over.

Raiders – Coach Will Travers* - After firing their coach, the Raiders turn to a proven veteran coach to return them to the top. Coach Will has his hands full in this division. Prolific passing game and complicated defenses will be coming from the Raiders this season, but will it be enough to unseat the Chargers??

Broncos – Coach Jack Thomas * – Another rookie coach in a division that is tough to say the least. Coach Jack will have to make the learning curve small if the Broncos are to make a dent in the West. Another runnign team that can pass, the Broncos are looking to make some noise, but how much??

NFC WEST

49ers – Coach Corey Johnson – This team has won this division hands down over the years. Problem with Coach Corey is that he has not won a playoff game in the NEFL in some time. Rumor has it that since he had a breakthrough in another league, the playoff monkey is off his back. That has yet to be determined and the rest of the division is hopping mad to knock them off the top.

Seahawks – Coach Jamie Harris - Seahawks have been to the title game, but have had some down seasons lately. Coach Jamie has been itching to get this season started to return to the top of the division as well as to the top of the league. The power running could get some wins, but it’s going to be the passing game that will help or hurt this team.

Cardinals – Coach Karim Campbell - Cardinals are looking to make their continued improvement they have made under Coach Karim. This team features a smash-mouth running style mixed with little passing. The defense will be hard to run on, but have they improved the passing defense to complete with the 49ers of the world. if the Cardinals find a more successful down-field passing game, lookout!

Rams – Coach David El*- This is one of hard-luck teams in the NEFL. The coaching has been suspect for this franchise in the past. Coach David is hoping to turn that around in his return to the NEFL. Rams will need more than just players on the field this season if they are going to put some wins on the board.

o stay in games within the division, much less the rest of the conference.

Now we are down to the last group for the NEFL Preview 2010.

We will call this one the “Dirty South” to cover both South divisions…..

AFC SOUTH

Titans – Coach Kelvin Lomax – The 2 time division Champ is a little miffed about being knocked out of the playoffs 2 yrs straight ON THEIR Home field! Coach K-Lo promises to come back with a revamped titans team looking to make a break through to the title game and to win it all. Titans feature a balanced attack on offense lead by C.Johnson and a swarming defense. Maybe going on the road in the Playoffs might get them over the hump.

Jaguars – Coach William Chalmers - The other son of a legend, Coach William brings his balanced attack to try to knock the Titans from the top of the division. They beat them up last season only to get bumped out the top spot. Jaguars are looking feed on the new coaches in the division.

Colts – Coach Floyd Tate* – New coach with experience. Coach Floyd has been known to not make a playoff run in the past, but that was another league. This rookie coach is coming in with knowledge of most of the team in the division so they will have a chance to do good things in their 1st season.

Texans – Coach Kenny King *- He too is a son of a NEFL legend, but this young coach is making his return to the NEFL. If he can regain his footing, Coach Kenny could make some noise.

NFC SOUTH

Falcons – Coach Brian Healey - The Falcons, one year removed from the title game, are looking to regain their form. Now Coach Brian has his hands full in the division with some experienced coaches coming over to put an end to the lockdown that the Falcons have enjoyed.

Lions – Coach Dearell Brevard ** – Special change for 2010, the Lions will play in the South instead of the North. This is not your daddy’s Lions. This team can run it with power or toss the ball all over the park. Coach Dearell needs to stay focused in the Dirty South. It is a division the could see changes at the top.

Panthers – Coach James Nicholson- Panthers franchise has gone thru some problems over the years but they thick that Coach James can turn them around. This coach has been a long time coach in this league, but has not won in a long time. Featuring a strong running attack, they hope to open up some space in the division.

Saints – Coach Steve Brown *- this team has not been run the way a team should. Now that Coach Steve is on board, maybe the Saints will get some wins in the division. They feature a controlled passing game and big play defense looking to knock off the top teams along the way.
