Bill, I got a question for you? How come the top two teams from Coed B last season are still in Coed B and yet my team and another was thrust into A-league?

Now, I have suggested in the past, that all Coed teams (A & B) play eachother, (kinda like interleague play in MLB), however, I do not look forward to playing the same A-league teams week in and week out. The fact is that 80% of my roster is new, and I am not sure how we will fare against any of these teams.

I'm not scared to play em, just wondering why we were put in A, or if the schedule could be amended after this week or two, to include teams in both divisions. (I actully suggested this at Managers meeting in fall and was told it would be discussed at summer managers meeting-It never was).

Opinions???

I agree with Sam. I lost a few players from last season and I've got no idea how we'll be this year. A little "interleague play" wouldn't hurt.

Not trying to disagree with yens. That is a very strong point of view. If it was supposed to come up at the meeting, then somebody should of brought it then, instead of now. Schedules are very hard. Bill has done great with the coed league, and bringing up these issues now only makes his job harder.

The top 2 teams from B league last year were Logan Liners and the Sleepers both were 15-3 The Sleepers are in A league and Logan Liners are either not playing or playing under a different name so they may be in A league as well. Fall league where i think your getting your 2 best teams from is a total fun league where teams can barely field enough players and a large percent of the games are either rained out or forfeited and shouldn't be considered for rankings of who is in what league. Sam from your record you shouldn't have been bumped so maybe there was a different factor.

Interleague play is always brought up by someone and its usually an A team because they're afraid that they will lose a lot during the season or they want to boost their ego by winning 30% of their games easily. (Sam you are an exception because you were pushing for it last year) Interleague play is a bad idea and extremely unfair when leagues are seperated by skill level. You let teams get beat by 30 runs by a team from a different league 3 or 4 nights out of a 9 night schedule that they're paying 600 dollars for you wont have to worry that long about interleague because there wont be enough teams for 2 leagues. It's already shrinking as is don't push it faster.

Hell with all the complaining I see year after year. I'm surprised people still step up to do anything at all for us like scheduling keeping score umping anything at all. We're lucky to have a league cause if I volunteered my time or got payed the little that certain spots get I would have told everyone in these leagues to get bent and to do it themselves a long ass time ago.

Jay,
I totally agree we are lucky to have a league.

Well, Bill and I have talked and he explained what is going on to me and my concern is gone...however I would like to say that there is no luck involved with having a league when we pay 600 bucks per team.

Sam, there absolutely luck involved. You were lucky that I volunteered 100% of my time to run a league for 4+ years. You are lucky that John Abney has 100% volunteered to run the league this year and in the future. You're lucky there are 2-4 people who have stepped up to help us. If not, you wouldn't have to worry about your $600 cause you wouldn't have a league.

The league fees go 100% to umpires, lights, scorekeepers, field maintenance, trophies/shirts and little misc stuff (like new bases). Neither myself or John have ever taken 1 single cent. So yeah, you're really lucky to have a league to play in.

Dan, I know you guys dont take any money for this and dont think I am not grateful that you, John, Bill and all the other guys have volunteered your time. I have said so in the past and will repeat that graciousness now...however...I am just saying, there have been beer leagues in Marion for as long as I remember. I started playing at pyramid park on a church and business team when I was only 16. The fields are there and people will play regardless, as long as someone is taking money to run it. Thats all I am saying.
That being said, I think you guys have done a fantastic job and continue to do so...and one of the reasons you do, is because we have a forum to discuss improvements and express concerns...with or without people piling on you for doing so.

From everything I know and have been told by the Recreation Department, Park Board and people who have been involved in the league for years, the 3 previous people who ran the league all got compensated. I don't begrudge them for it. But that's probably why you've played in the league here for so long. If it wasn't for John, there may not even be a league now. So, I do consider everyone lucky that he's doing what he's doing or else your league fees would be more like $800 instead of $600. Same thing with Lloyd Nelson who runs the Murphysboro leagues.

But to your points, I don't see them as complaining. You bring up good points. I would suggest to give one of the guys a call whose name and number is on the homepage of this site who is responsible for that particular league.

I've always kept the site to where people can anonymously post ideas and criticisms without unfairly attacking people. I think that's important. But that doesn't mean that I don't think there are possibly better ways to get a question/gripe answered than by just posting on here.

Ok. I do want you to know that I did call first though. Didn't get a call back before I posted. (day or two).

Anyway, I do appreciate all that you guys do.
