The following rule regarding the length of games will be effective immediately.

SITUATION: ~ Rebels and Hurricane Alley played their first game, and it ended 25-24. The game wasn't dragging by either team's lack of hustle or by having a million walks in the game. It was just a lot of hits and runs. 8:00am game ended about 9:40am! Didn't leave much time for game 2, without pushing the 10am games back. Luckily the other Frick field was open, so they moved to the back field and started on time.

I was contacted by the head umpire (Dale) to find a way to address this potential problem in the future. The following, is the new rule that will be in place and enforced by the umpires. It's not up to either team to decide!

NEW RULE: ~ If anyone's 1st game takes longer than 1hr. and 20 minutes to complete, that game will continue as is until completed. THE SECOND GAME will automatically start with a 1 ball / 1 strike count on each batter.

Hopefully you can all appreciate the new rule considering the ramifications of pushing any games either into the next doubleheader's start time, or into a time frame that exceeds our permit time. I chose this rule as it is, because I didn't feel like effecting a game that is taking a long time to play, by changing the rules in the middle of it, or just calling the game final, based on a particular time limit.

Thanks.
Mike Lakovic
