| i have an idea or 3
1) we take a small monetary collection for Mike so he can get his minimal $ refund...........so he wont have to whine and we dont have to read about it.
2)somebody please shut down this website so we dont have to read about all this crybaby crap that has been so rampant lately.
3)if u dont like the Marion league, go somewhere else. its softball for Christ's sake. if u cant handle a ballfield that is sub-par then go catch or EH whinebags.

| Steve: Southern Il Softball league is a non for profit organization. None of the organizers of the league get paid for this abuse. We volunteer our time, try to make this league safe, competitive, fun, and reasonably priced. We have no control regarding the dirt applied to the field. Food for thought, go BOWLING, $3 a game plus 1$ shoes, takes 10-15 minutes to play one game. 18games x $4= $72, bring 10 guys to play = $720, what did you get for $720?

| Personally, I think the infields are the best they have been. I know guys are gonna say I'm crazy, but we're not getting anywhere near the bad bounces this year as we've gotten in the past.
The sand/dirt that was brought in has helped, it's just unfortunate that there were the rocks in there. But hopefully we can find a time to get them out.
One thought, the church league has the top field free at 8:15 on Tuesdays. What if we got people out there at 8:30 next Tuesday with some rakes and buckets for a half hour? If we got 15 people to volunteer to do it, we could get that field clean.
I play on the bottom field at that time and will gladly stay around for a half hour working on the bottom field.

| Great Idea for the 15th! I will recruit from my team. On the complaints... oh my... get a life... This is a solid league, with well intententioned leadership and good comraderie with the teams. Have some fun already!

| The rocks suck, I have the bruise on my leg to prove it. The umpires are fairly undependable. However, this is a great league the guys in charge do everything in their power to make it work. I love playing here and will continue to play here, keep up the good work.

| As far as umpires go most are dependible, we have several young umpires this year, and yes they are not seasoned. If you don't have all your facts then don't complain, there are not enough umpires to cover all the leagues that we have local. If there is a field that doen't have 2 umps its because there aren't 2 to be had. If you have problem other than not having 2 umpires then I need to know what those are, so that they maybe addressed. I am the association president and you can call me @ 618-694-9623.

| I have no problem with the young umpires, at least they are there. What I am referring to are games where the scheduled umpires didn't show up or were 10-15 minutes late. I know umpires are scarce, I'd do it if I could. I just wish they were there and on time.
Off topic, I played in a league in St. Louis last week and there was an infield fly situation. The umpire did not verbally call it out, he said he doesn't have to and that runners should be aware of the situation, is this true?

| No its not true...Hand goes up..infield fly declared if its a legal infield fly where there is a fielder under the ball and it can be caught with REASONABLE EFFORT. If noone is near the ball in the infield and the ball drops, it is NOT the infield fly rule.

| The call should also be "Infield Fly, if fair". Learned that the hard way.

| Interesting, thanks for answering. The short stop purposely dropped it in the game, it was in his glove and fell out. He tried to turn a triple play, but since the umpire didn't know what was going on, I ended up on third and scored the game winning run.
Is there any chance that the rules are different in Missouri and thats where the confusion came from?

| He purposely dropped it, batter out for the infield fly, runners can run at their own risk.

| ALL MANAGERS OR COACH SHOULD HAVE A 2010 RULE BOOK FROM THE ASA THERE WAS SOME DISCUSSION OF WHETHER AN INFIELD FLY HAD TO BE OFFICIALLY CALLED BY AN OFFICIAL AT THE UMPIRES CLINICI FEEL STRONGLY THAT AN OFFICIAL -SHOULD DECLARE AN INFIELD FLY ASAP.. RULEBOOK DECLARES THAN AN INFIELD FLY IS A "DECLARED' CALL-IN ADDITION IT FURTHER DIFFERENTIATES BETWEEN A DECLARED INFIELD FLY AND AN INTENTIONAL DROP (RULE 8 SECT 2 I AND J)
