| Why does everyone bitch about hitting up the middle? As little as 5 years ago you didn't hear anyone complaining about it. Its part of the game, if you don't like it don't pitch. I've pitched for 15 years and have been hit at countless times and you don't hear me bitching and moaning. If its that big of a deal, why not put a fence in front of the pitcher 2ft wide by 7ft high. It would cause some odd deflections but we could hit up the middle without people crying like 2 year old girls.

| i dont know why anyone would complain.....maybe ask the guy in spring league who got hit in the face, was taken by ambulance to the hospital and got a buttload of stitches and probably had a mild concussion.

| its all about being prepared after the pitch. keep your hands up instead of putting them down by your side after pitching, and don't be drunk.

| Dude come on Jeff if people are trying to tag a pitcher then thats just not cool. I agree be prepared to field your spot on the field but with some of these guys out there sometimes you just get lucky and other times there just isnt time to react.
The best thing I have seen pitchers do is wear the catcher style mask. I think its a great idea and should be encouraged by every league.
Also people who try to hit a pitcher and openly talk about it should be ejected from the game.

| i agree that trying to hit a pitcher is a douchebag move and i agree with you on ejecting them for being dumbasses. what i'm mainly talking about are pitchers and teams that bitch all the time. its a natural swing for a lot of people to hit up the middle. most people complain when their own team is already doing it. its part of the game, quit complaining

| Completely agree with jeff. If I have 2 strikes and get a pitch out over the plate, I gotta hit it where it's pitched! I'm not pulling an outside pitch just to avoid hitting the other pitcher. I'm usually going to right field, but I'm not perfect. Sometimes it goes up the middle! Way too many people bitch about that. Don't pitch!!! I don't!

| Jeff J I wasvat that game and I play softball for van escape from real life for a couple of nights. Just for the record I am a Physician and would wager that 99% of pitchers at our ballpark could not havengotten there glovesnup fast enough either. If u weren't there u should not comment on the situation.

| I pitch and dont mind a ball up the middle every now and again,it keeps me on my toes...lol..easy way to get people to not hit middle is to just be cool with them and dont piss them off...accidents happen,thats why we sign waivers..I suggest takin a couple steps back after the pitch and pitch inside.

| I pitch , And i don't complain about anyone hitting middle. but , it sounds like you just pitch in league, try to pitch on the weekends against people using altered Bats, when you can't get your glove up At a call traveling thru the middle 3 to 4 feet high And travel over 300 feet - its a whole different ball game. hitting middle is part of the game, but trying to take a workin man out on a stretcher , is FUCKed up. wear 27 much protection as possible. league, or weekend play.you just don't know who is swinging legal Bats, And who is not.

I did not put that previous post up. I am a Physician and was at that game. I do have my doubts that anyone would have gotten there glove up fast enough. That is my opinion and why I don't pitch. I would like to think that most guys do not go up the middle with the intent of hitting the pitcher.
