I observed those games on Saturday - then found it kind of funny to find this on the Tri-County Little League Baseball Rules - Rule #4 talking about the strike zone:

4. The home plate umpire must talk to both coaches prior to the game about the strike zone. The strike zone will be from the letters to the knees. Any pitch that crosses any part of the plate will be called a strike.
A BIG strike zone is desired to limit the number of walks per game. This means that if ANY PART of the BALL TOUCHES the OUTSIDE or INSIDE CORNER of the PLATE it should be CALLED A STRIKE. A complaint about a small strike zone should be reported to the League Secretaries.

Simple concept....but pretty darn effective.

Maybe you guys should find out who these League Secretaries are and have them make a call?

Ohhh the fun of baseball - playing for over 100 years and we still argue the strike zone - maybe Jim Joyce can move to the Independent League :)

LOL!

Love it, little league rules. Our game if the ball split the plate in half at the belt it was a ball. The good news is that both teams took some bad calls.

If we would have played well it shouldn't even have been an issue. Oh well. Sucks, we lost, now we can't let it happen again.

Well put Tesch. Both teams battled an inconsistent/tiny strike zone for most of the game, though both teams were also swinging the bat so it wasn't as obvious. Things seemed to tighten in the later innings and it seemed we got the short end of the stick, but it shouldn't have mattered - had we played a good game we would have won, but we didn't. Hats off to Cumberland who played a solid game and made very few mistakes - errorless if I remember correctly. They're better than their record shows.

Either way we're still in first and will finish that way if we win our next five.

"Ball don't lie."
