I ran accross this quote from Mark Harris, from the essay "The Bonding," in the Birth of a Fan:

"Baseball was urgent. Its urgency addicted me. We needed to win every game. The urgency of baseball made me a fan. Every game was crucial. One might be casual about many other things in life, such as love, learning, literature, morals, ethics, politics, religion, and college entrance exams, but baseball mattered."

If I didn't know where this quote came from I thought it might have been said by a Haugen Knight at PFS...let's see...which one? Mau? Hill? Derc? Dan? Carter? Travis? Basty after a beer??
